Profitec Pro 300 - Making a Flat White

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

(First off, sorry about the vertical orientation, this was originally intended for a social media post)
Making coffee at home is great with this prosumer grade espresso machine. With a compact size, dual boilers, a PID, and adequate steam power, the Profitec Pro 300 is very suitable for home use or low volume situations.
PS
This was my old machine, I upgraded to another machine after about less than a year of use. Will post the new machine soon!

    Parallaxenemy Many thanks as well for the kinds words. When my Pro300 arrived I spent the next week practicing daily and getting to know the machine. I believe that you will be able to hone your skills as well with practice and familiarity. As with any machine, the connection between man and machine is forged over time.

    Nice work. Great machine. When you locked in your portafilter to the grouphead, did you get any movement from the grouphead. I’ve got the same machine and it moves a bit. I’m just trying to figure out, if I’ve got an issue here. Thanks

    I must have watched this video 10 times of more. Beautiful work on the latte art :) I'm considering the pro 300 at the minute. But I have major concern around the steam and the quality of milk it produces. Is the steam at all wet? Or does it make the latte etc taste watery? I only make one 8-12 Oz latte a day. I have also considered the synchronika but my counter space is a bit limited. Would you say say there is a massive difference in the taste and quality of the milk based coffees the two produced? I have an atom 75 grinder so grind should be good. Many thanks

    Thank you very much :) To be honest with you, the reason I upgraded to the synchronika was because of the steaming power of the Pro300 - or lack thereof. It’s not particularly wet, the quality of steaming is actually quite nice, but it may take a while. A few droplets at first crack of the knob, but after that, clean dry steam. If this wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for you, I still highly recommend the Pro300. Great build quality, good performance, adequate steaming, and it’s the perfect size for a kitchen counter top. One of the - if not - the best value for a dual boiler machine :)

    Funny: I actually do own a Synchronika but consider downgrading to a PRo 300. Why? When I bought the Synchro, we both spent all day away from home. We had two Cappuccinos in the morning, maybe another two Espressi or Cappuccinos in the evening. And on the weekend it might have been running for a few hours in the afternoon. Now we both work from home. One might say ‚Great, the office coffee is terrible.‘ But you never know when the next coffee is due. And if you decide that it is time for one, you do not want to wait for 30 minutes for the machine to heat up. So you keep it running. All day long. from 7 am to 7pm. And it eats electrons like I eat candy. Easily 5 or more kWh per day. At 40 ct/ kWh that is quite some money over the year. The Pro 300 on the other hand: Switch it off whenever not in use, the current model is equipped with a fast heat up PID. So when you want a coffee, switch it on from the office with a remote controlled socket, wait 5 minutes and go and get your coffee. You can have a Cappuccino within 7 minutes and it will cost you 0.15 kWh only to get to this point. Then switch it off again. Since we never need more than two coffees within a few minutes, it easily can do what we need it to do. At the moment I am seriously considering buying one, maybe keep if for half a year next to the Synchro and then decide which is the better machine for me. Technically it is out of the question, the Synchro is another kind of beast. But overall it might look differently

  • @istibo

    @istibo

    6 жыл бұрын

    janolapino Thank you! Yes, with the beans I’m using (that are a bit more bitter), I found that a ristretto is better for this rather than a full double shot. This machine has been great as my first espresso machine. I learned and practiced on it for almost a year and it has been a joy to use. It definitely punches above what most other home espresso machines can do. For the value, I can’t recommend anything else.

    What's your grind to shot output ratio? Looks like you only pulled 20g shot from a double shot grind capacity of like 18g? Isn't it usually a 1:2 ratio?

  • @istibo

    @istibo

    3 жыл бұрын

    For the beans I’m using, I usually do a 1:1 ratio or a ristretto since they’re roasted a little bit more on the darker side. I played around with the output with regards to the extraction time and ended up with an 18g in 20g out ratio which puts it around 1:1.11. Though I believe this is purely due to the specifIc bean and roast that I have. Recently I’ve tried a different bean with a slightly more medium roast and I had to do a 1:2 ratio to bring out the flavor.

    I’ve just purchased the profitec pro 300 and struggling with the steaming. You mentioned that it takes longer to steam. Does that increased length effect the quality of milk? Did you keep the 2 hole tip? Any advice on how to achieve the microfoam you did would be greatly appreciated. Oh, I’m using a 500ml jug which would mean I’m pouring in 200ml (as a guess)

    Nice work! I just got the machine a week ago - I was inspired by you. Shots are turning out great, but my biggest difficulty is getting the right milk texture for latte art. Are you using the stock 2-hole steam wand tip for this video? I've tried mirroring your positioning, air incorporation and vortex but still not quite getting results.

  • @istibo

    @istibo

    4 жыл бұрын

    Stephen Lee Thanks! Congratulations on your machine! Yes, I was using the stock two-hole tip in this video and you’re right, it’s pretty difficult to get the right milk texture with this one. The steam pressure isn’t as strong as would be desirable. You really have to keep it right up to the surface to start the vortex but just enough that you don’t over aerate the milk.

    Kensei Kensei Yes, I’ve upgraded to an ECM Synchronika and E37S grinder. The reason I upgraded is because I wanted to try out an E61 group head, stronger steam performance, and pre-infusion. All of which I found in the Synchronika plus a very beautiful design, amazing craftsmanship, and top-notch quality.

  • @istibo

    @istibo

    6 жыл бұрын

    Kensei Kensei You’re welcome. I can definitely say the E61 is a lot more stable temperature-wise than the pro300 group head. Heat up times are about 15mins for the former, and 10mins for the latter. Not much of a difference, really. Though when it comes to shot quality and consistency, I’d say the E61 is definitely the way to go.

    Thanks for the answer. I will probably follow your steps with te pro 300 step as well as my wife wants "a very small machine" (fore her even pro 300 looks huge) :D Will see how it goes. I considered E61 as well, but for double boiler E-61 usually two things are far from my dream machine spec: warm up time and size :(... I know that "you can always use timer" and "the size is not that much different"...but still...I have to deal with my wife somehow ;)
