Profit and Sustainability Rules: Premier League point deductions here to stay for financial breaches

Clubs who break the Premier League’s financial rules can still expect to be given significant points deductions in the future, Sky Sports News has been told, despite a proposal to replace points penalties with a fine.
Premier League clubs are attending their latest shareholders meeting on Wednesday (April 10) where the future of squad cost controls is the primary issue on the agenda.
The Premier League said after the last meeting in March that they were committed to "prioritise the swift development and implementation of a new league-wide financial system".
There will be no vote on the issue, but the league wants the new system in place by the summer, and certainly before the new season starts in August.

At the same time they are dragging their feet in advantage of ManC and other "bigger" clubs. Still a lot of people supports PL's agenda against Everton and the press don't talk about the number 17

Fines are pointless when you have bottomless pockets. Wage caps, transfer bans and transfer limits are needed. Higher percentage of PL income to be spread through the leagues and more focus on academy development.
They've screwed up by deducting Everton and Notts Forest points, they know it would mean MC playing in a pub league so the deductions will stop. City have 70+ lawyers involved in their case, they will likely get a suspended transfer embargo 🙄

The "Football association premier league limited" in 2022, made a loss of £222m. Their annual operating costs are £326m 2022 and just a couple million less in 2021. What the F are you spending that money on and if it is to pay out winnings to teams with 115 charges, you better get that money back if they are found guilty and had/have an unfair advantage which means you had to pay them more than you should have, plus a points deductions in line with previous deductions to scale.

If City were to be given a points deduction or even relegation, this would be a knock to the premier league's popularity and revenue. They will give City a fine and that will be that. The premier league's refereeing, and rule enforcement are atrocious for a league that's seen as "the best in the world".
@joshuaw9675

What & When are MC & Chelsea going to be accountable for their breaches etc?
look as a man utd fan, im not against man city fans, fair play they have a right to support their team on the pitch and love them , my point is this, if Fulham and Everton got punished for minor breaches, man city with 115 charges should be relegated, the fa should force man city owners to sell and leave, and also strip them of all their titles! fair play? yes it is! bloody oath! rules are their equally for every single club whether a big club or small, everyone should be equal, no backhand money deals or paying off the lawyers to bribe the fa, which city are well known for! money should be be allowed to be used to buy them out of trouble! the punishment should fit the crime!

City have 115 charges and it’s been a year and nothing has been done. Clubs like Forest and Everton have small chargers and they are being docked points. When will City be investigated ? What is the hold up?
FFP / PSR will be the death knell of the PL, its anti-competitive and unworkable. When Serie A or La Liga are the top league in 10 years time, we'll look back on this as the catalyst.

Damn, so my club Chelsea will still get points deducted 😂. I’ve already made peace with the Cyprus confidential papers and the abromovich issues that were raised in it.
The longer man city play in the premier league the longer they stain English football
Impossible for clubs to grow now.
Fines are a farce when clubs are backed by the wrath of nation states. Bring in the government regulator if fines are on the table
Needs to happen in one go - at beginning or end of the season.
This is the start of the end of English Premier League. It's time to start a new football league
We need to protest against this injustice. Why is it that smaller clubs get punished instantly but it takes forever for city to get relegated? Now they want to change the point deduction punishment for something that city won't really be affected by
If you look at Red Bull's budget cap breach punishment in F1 (or rather the lack of it), the sporting punishment must be a harsh one for financial breaches and that should include point deductions and a disqualification. A fine doesn't solve anything...

They should still point deduct everyone who broke the current rules, but after this season, they then move to a fine based ruling system !
Should be no appeals.
@magicaces13
Ай бұрын
It's ridiculous right. If your final accounts show you've broken the rules how can you appeal that? Obviously the epl itself should have set out exactly what punishments were for breaches which seem to be open to interpretation, which again is ridiculous. They need to sort this mess out.
Bring back Division 1 and the vidiprinter.
I would propose that EPL stakeholders to come up with body that will check on signing of players...my suggestion further would be that before club sign a player the body has to approve.. So that it remain a win /win to all clubs
Forget about the clubs, fans won’t put up with it, boycott will sort it out. Let’s see how much money they loose if the fans turn off
Shoile be equal od thr bigger clubs snd small what about city
What the point of fines the mega rich clubs it’s like spending pennies to them how is that going to make it fair
Over 100 charges against city and yet no points deduction is already a joke..but to give them more power to spend even more is absolutely ridiculous..cuz they will just pay the fine and get away with it..
They are all dancing around the issues that football costs are out of control, player fees are out of control as are any of the add ons like agent fees. I have never understood why players are not responsible for those fees.
Here is a suggestion: 1. points deductions for the Current Season have to initially be given by January 31st. Any deductions that are given after this date apply to next season. 2. Appeals for the current season have to be submitted by February 14th. 3. Hearings of appeals have to be completed by April 1st & final decision on appeal made and published by April 10th.
This will just weaken the competition. Once the big teams lose their way, no upcoming teams to succeed them
Can we already deduct 15 to 30 points from the club with 115 charges?
As a Leicester fan id like to know from day one next season that its a set number of points deducted , Thats it get on with it, because all of the rumours and confusion have nothing to do with the playing side ,or the fans and its not helped our run in .I want a clear ruling no appeals , treat everyone the same.
It takes way to long for PL to make a judgement. If that can not be fixed, it should be binned. I do feel sorry for Everton fans, look what they have been through this year...crazy.
Salary cap needs to be introduced. 95% of money in football goes to players yet these players never give money to struggling clubs when they're loaded!
City will just change the rule to “four legs good two legs better”
"Keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor" The new Premier League motto. We will never see another Leicester or Blackburn, these corrupt helmets are making sure of that
Manchester City and Chelsea winners
Simple solution wages cap Every club can spend what they want but wages can not go over say 150 million
Good to hear that there will be real deterrence also in the future for breaching the PSR. And of course Manchester City will be judged by the FFP rules, including the PSR, which were, and still are, in force when they committed their 115 breaches. Everton should be confident their well grounded appeal against that further 2 points deduction will wipe that reduction out. Now the most important thing for the Premier League and its various commissions, to preserve at least some part of their respectability and credibility, is the equal treatment with the same principles of all the member clubs, in the ongoing and upcoming FFP and PSR cases.
The system is broken all to help the top 6 so obviously the current system doesn't benefit the top teams no longer so the new rules will have to benefit them more.
The beautiful game is dying
Everton should have breach more than 115 rules to avoid any punishment!! 😂😂
Corrupt system ,they should give Man City the verdict
How a team who make lose and still have to pay the fine.
its still the same clubs at the top and everyone else,
I don’t see why there needs to be changes at all? You break the rules, you get punished. Every club knows the rules, every club is subject to them.
How convenient for city just pay the fines no real punishment 😂😂😂 the kuruption is real people
I can see 14 teams leaving the premier league and making their own league if this carries on
They will be changed to fines which 115 club will gladly pay..what a joke
I just wish big clubs get delt with same as clubs like Everton, Leicester and Nottingham forest. Points deduction is aload of crock. Most competitive league in the world my backside. Punish the crap clubs and save the top 6.
Here to stay? Maybe but when will they get around to man city and Chelsea or can we expect that 10 yrs from now?
I bet Manchester Cheaty are loving this!
The whole of PSR needs scrapping and start again.
Praise the 115 😂 I can say with utmost certainty Boehly wanted the fines rule, probably even Kroenke on top of other US owners. This is how they run their crooked hockey basketball and baseball leagues, billionaires washing each others backs
‘You were caught cheating and we’ve punished you by doing something that actually has an impact’ ‘Oh no we don’t like that’ Big surprise there
Why are they consulting clubs? Those that have or want to break the rules will clearly push for a fine. Get some balls premier league and TELL them how it's going to be. If anyone for a second thinks a European super league would make more money than the premier league does they're having a laugh
@chrisburgess2432
Ай бұрын
This. It's like when the 6 said they were leaving to join the super league the Premier league let them choose their own fines
All clubs should be protected under the rules they were using at the time it doesn’t matter if they are changed
The points deduction is still the most fair option. Fines would not be an issue for clubs like mancity
Keep the points deduction, the deep pocket owned clubs will be able to pay off any fines
So we have to sell Gallagher
115 get it sorted
Chelsea man city
I just don't get it if Everton nott forest and other clubs get points deductions. Why isn't man city not being charged carrying on in champions league premier league all cup competitions as if nothing has happened there 'charges go back years . They need to be punished now. And all of there trophies taken off them. Personally i cant watch them because in my head i keep thinking cheats.
Scrap FFP and let Newcastle spend Saudi money!
How very convenient
115 pays it with cheeky ease😂😂
The rich clubs still couldn't go and spend what they want even of it was changed as uefa still has rules, so if the big or rich clubs want to play in Europe they have to meet uefa ffp rules
