Sherlock Holmes was based on a surgeon and Sir.Arthur Conan Doyle was an eye doctor himself; I think.

Wow, 15 minutes in and I am fully vested already, great characters and development. Love the Professor and his focused, determined nature. He will find the source of the many mysteries I am sure...but his little assistant seems to be a bit of a snitch.

@@PM2022Detective Anna usually takes two episodes to solve certain crimes, but there is a continuous theme with the main characters that provide a fascinating back story, which makes it very compelling. In that sense it's continuous. The actors are superb.

Really am enjoying this series. Great location, fascinating actor in the lead and developing storylines. I love Russia!

I absolutely loved this episode and look forward to watching every episode. The script is brilliant, and all the actors were well-cast in their roles. While watching I did think of Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Watson even though the two lead characters have different personalities.

I’m in to Russian Moves , The Acting is absolutely amazing, Thank You for Uploading The Great Story , hs, NY.

Thank you for this great series. I see in the comments many compaing it to Sherlock Holmes. There is a marvelous series of Sherlock Holmes stories filmed back in the Soviet era with great acting and cinematography. Anyone who likes this series and hasn't seen it I highly recommend it.

After seeing this with subtitles , I am more than willing to check it out . I've heard it was great . Please tell me what the series was called and/or who was in it so I watch the right one . p.s. I watched this out of sheer curiosity and surprise! I actually loved it , even having to read subtitles .

Similar to The Departed, I like the setting.

SInce the the tragic war in Ukraine, I have found myself compelled more than ever to examine the psyche of the modern Russian soul. The Ottepel series about the Kruschev "thaw era" and other like this series are very informative and lighthearted way to learn more about what makes Russia tick and behave in the way to does today.

Will you please consider dubbing these in English so one does not have to try and read thru the entire movie?

To realize haw idiotic this movie is, you must know Russian's mentality, class division similar to caste system in India and the gigantic scale of corruption in every government institution in Russia of that time. Very low level of education and inflated egos across all levels of government officials, would make cooperation between police and professor impossible. Any wrong doing was punished with betting of the lower rang clerk. Slapping the face with an open hand was considered the mildest form of punishment and expected, common occurrence. Sherlock Holmes with his logic and big mouth would be dead in Russia at age 5 or 6.

The Title in russian actually means 'Resurrection', Professor is a little mis-leading. Still, excellent acting all round.

The original title is actually the last name of the main character which doesn't mean resurrection per SE, though it does have the same base(root) as resurrection. It also has the same root with Russian Sunday, soo.. no. Think Dr. House - though a house but really NOT :)
