Just a tip for anyone who wants to do this but doesn’t want to buy all the containers (they can get quite pricey). I just started buying a specific brand of apple juice that comes in glass bottles. So just look out in the supermarket for food that you buy anyways that comes in glasses that look nice. After a few weeks or months you have all your containers without spending extra money basically!! Also, I use chalkboard labels so I can change what goes in the containers if I need to. They also look really cute. Hope I could help someone out 🥰

FIFO, first in - first out. When refilling a jar, remove the remaining contents and set aside. Refill the jar then place the remaining contents on top so you would consume it first thus it will not expire at the bottom of the jar.

Hey, Mia, whenever you are filling up your jars with a new package and have just a bit of leftover in it already, try to take the leftover out first, then fill the new purchase in it and on top put back the leftover. So that nothing gets wasted or gets bad. Also, as others suggested you should totally write expiry date on the jars. I saw in a video that the lady used masking tape/painter's tape to write the expiry date and stuck it on the bottom of the jar.

  • @choddle8427

I use a water soluble marker made for glass (they’re actually not hard to find at all. Lots of chalk markers work too) to mark the content and expiration dates on my containers (which are actually plastic but it works the same on all smooth surfaces so that doesn’t matter). Would totally recommend for anyone reading this. You won’t need anything else like labels or tape, and it can be wiped off with a cloth or when you’re washing them so it’s easy to change, but it also still stays on good enough that it won’t just wipe off like a dry-erase marker (tested those before I found the glass marker).

Hey Mia, interior decor and organizing enthusiast here who totally gets the label issues. If you want them to lay smooth get a blow dryer for your hair (take your ingredients out first) heat the label and use a new exacto knife to cut small lines in the wrinkles. Then carefully lift and layer them over each other, like crisscrossing a pie crust almost. It should lay smooth and hide the fact it was even cut. 😊 Hope this was clear and helpful and happy organizing. 😉

Yes! I use non-permanent markers made for glass too (it works for my plastic containers too - just a tip for anyone reading) to mark what the content is and the expiration date. I really wanted to be able to mark the expiration dates but doing it with labels seems like a hassle so I did some research and decided on glass markers. It stays on good enough for regular use (although I probably wouldn’t want to rub on the text hard) but can come off with a wet cloth or when you’re washing them.

I have some with a screw on lid and some where you have this like a clasp (You know these where old people had pickled veggies and fruits in, these with a clasp) and I also have rectangular tall plastic containers where the lid is pink with white stars on it. The plastic containers are for sugar and flour. Those with the clasp are for puffed spelt, rice and pasta, than I have a tiny one with a clasp for vegetable broth powder, those with the screw on lid are for muesli/cornflakes altho one with the screw on lid was sold as a bonbon jar. I put pink stickers on them where there are 3 lines to write on and I wrote on the middle row what they are used for. The cute thing is that these sticker have rhaspberries with a smiling face on it. I also decorated my jars (not the plastic containers) with stickers that look like cartoonish fruits (buth with no borders drown on the fruits) and I also have plastic containers in my fridge to keep stuff organized where I put those fruity stickers on since the pack had soooo many stickers in it. I also have a pink storage-solutuion inside of my cupboard that is ment to store powerd-bags/soup-bags wich has different parts to devide sections it wich is nice so I store in this pink think my backing surplies and ramen noodles haha. I also havr a big box with 6 different compartments for tea

@@LostMatcha that's not true for many products. baking ingredients can lose their effectiveness. certain products can literally grow mold and make you sick and you can't see it. natural or organic ingredients (like a lot of what mia uses) actually do expire faster because they're made without all the preservatives you'd typically find which allow a product to last past the date.

as a witch who stores my ingredients in decorated glass jars both for prettiness and functionality, I now have ideas for putting together my ingredients shelf so it's prettier than it is right now. As it stands I have a 5 tiered shelf with drawers, the two shelves below the main waist level table hold my art supplies, my grimoire and my reference books, the main table houses my altar, then the second solid shelf above it holds my dried ingredients and the top shelf my living plants, then there's a line of twine from the top plant shelf to the wall that I hang stuff to dry on before I shift it to bottles and jars. I now have various ideas to store my ingredients better (they last longer if kept in a dark place out of direct sunlight) while still retaining the prettiness factor.

if your brown sugar wont stay soft, try a terracotta sugar saver. its just a little disk (usually decorative, shaped like a little animal or something) that you soak in water and put in the sugar. mine has worked great. but also just as important i think is using the sugar regularly tbh. obviously when i bake with it i go through a fair bit, and i also cook with it like a tbsp at a time so i go through a couple bags a year. even a sugar saver wont keep brown sugar soft if its not touched for ages which used to be my case, so i would just buy exactly what i needed from bulk barn instead of storing it in the house lol.

Mia, an episode on gut health would be greatly appreciated. I suffer from IBS, and my gut has caused me problems for decades. Issues ranging from sores in the mouth, to debilitating diarrhea. Even if I only discover one helpful thing, it will be a great. Every bit of information has the potential to add to our knowledge about our own situation, and will therefore, help. Rarely are our problems solved in one fell swoop, but rather, through examining our situation, and learning all we can about it.

I agree with the other comment I saw that I would love to see you DIY the middle doors to open ☺️ Also, even tho it'd be a bit more work, it might be a good idea if you wrote the expiration date or "last time refilled" date on the jars. Maybe stick a chalk-texture sticker on the back of the jar or on the bottom so you can write a new date every time you refill!

I also used to think decanting was just an INSANE amount of extra work, but then I realized stuff doesn't keep falling over all the time when I do that.
