Actually the first proclaimers and the first to Hail Rastafari were the Black Jews of Harlem. This is before the 30’s the coronation of Haile Selassie. Rabbi Wentworth Arthur Matthew. Rabbi Arnold Josiah Ford was a Musical Director for the U.N.I.A., he was composer of the Universal Ethiopia Anthem(Hymnal) that I-N-I still chant til this day.

He is the first Ethiopian on record to have followed Christ, and from that day onwards the Word of God has continued to grow in the hearts of Ethiopians. And I might say for myself that from early childhood I was taught to appreciate the Bible and my love for it increases with the passage of time. All through my troubles I have found it a cause of infinite comfort. Because of this personal experience in the goodness of the Bible, I was resolved that all my countrymen should also share its great blessing and that by reading the Bible they should find truth for themselves. Therefore, I caused a new translation to be made from our ancient language into the language which the old and the young understood and spoke. It is an indisputable fact that RASTAFARI (the Rastafarian Movement) has grown to be the social force that it is (and indeed a force to be reckoned with) because of the lasting impact of His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Emperor Haile Selassie I on Rastafarian adherents around the world, and on the world in general. It seems you are negating nationalism, first you have to set yourself right before trying to fix the world, in other words, fixing yourself first will equip you to add to the benefit of the world. The ultimate is the equality of all humankind, I wouldn't call nationalism the antithesis of universalism....one comes before the other. There is a primacy of one over the other, not negating the relevance of both.

Tony was in charge of Tuff Gong records LA at that time and he made me spend hours each day studying Bible and Ethiopian history. On the wall of the shop Bob had put a framed clipping of a Speech by Haile Selassie I and he said "From my early childhood I was taught to appreciate the Bible and my love for it only increases with the passage of time. No matter what language or translation the Word is still the Word' A Rasta is supposed to be one of follows the teachings of His Majesty and he taught I and I to trust and rely on the Bible. @@JCRastafari well for the most part I certainly agree with you, this anti-Bible perspective is what we are hearing from both Prof I and Mutabaruka. I even saw a video yesterday from Muta where he was defending Voodoo and Obeah, which contradicts all the Rasta teachings I have heard from my elders. Obeah and Voodoo both deal with invoking Demons, it is the same as Satanism, (which sadly seems to be getting very popular with young people these days) and it seems that Muta is being anti Bible at the same time he is promoting what is basically Satanism! In the Bible we are taught to cast out Demon spirits, and in Obeah, and Voodoo and Santateria, folks try to gain earthly powers by calling up these spirits! Two total opposites! As I said, Tony Garnett, who was Bob Marley's Road manager and my Rasta teacher, MADE me study Bible every day, and I credit that with saving my life and my soul! Sometimes black liberation activists here in the US put up similar arguments, saying the Bible was brought to Africa by the European colonionists, but, as the same Selassie speech I quoted from points out, the Gospel was brought to Africa by the Ethiopian Official baptized by Phillip, long before most of Europe had it, and the old testament teachings came to Ethiopia by Queen of Sheba when she came back from Jerusalem and gave birth to the son of King Solomon. So the Bible is part of Ethiopian culture since Solomon's time. Much more to say, but, short on time. But, briefly, there have been different "Factions" in Jamaican Rasta for quite a long time; case in point, Bob and Peter Tosh. When Tosh was asked why original Wailers broke up, he said"Bob and I had strong disagreements so much, that we couldn't even be in the same room any more without an almost violent argument breaking out." He was then asked " Disagreements about Music?" He replied "No, disagreements about Rasta Doctrines!". So as Bob said, how good and how pleasant it would be to see the unification of all Rastaman, but we will still have to wait and pray for that day to happen!

Rastafari was not created to follow Haile Selassie I religion or beliefs. RastafarI was created to free Blak ppl. this is a livity, a way of life. What you are describing is a religion. As a Ras I presume you already know that it's not a religion.

The Twelve tribes mansion of Rastafari still emphasize daily Bible Study, their well known motto is "A Chapter a Day keeps the Devil away!" You might learn something from the wisdom of these elders; So many of Bob's (and Bunny Wailer's!) lyrics are direct quotes from the Bible! I am an island girl ready to commit to the Rastafarian way on April 21st. I pick this day as it is Rastafarians all over the world hold April 21, as an important day in their history. On April 21, 1966, Haile Selassie visited Jamaica and it has since been known globally as Grounation Day. They revere it as a holy day that marks their messiah setting foot on Jamaican soil.

Wicked, like the perspective as a warrior myself, he's on the same thinking as I have had for years, imo you have to take into account all factors that led to rasta, and you will be happy.

My first school of thought was RASTAFARI, then i observed the precepts of CHRISTINATY and i practiced AL ISLAM for 15years. This is what makes rastafari such a wonderful freeing thing, and in my opinion the supreme. For that, it’s for you as the individual to interpret. Not an organization, not a religion. It’s a portal, a tool to reach the highs. God is innate.

Suh what about the many persons who died from famine in Ethiopia and the many rasta who suffered poverty and sickness. If the God don't love us said reason, did Selassie love us based on that argument?
