I like their story. They used to do gigs before but the pandemic shut down everything. Jon and Gigi started live streaming just to earn some income, together with now Mr Tritone (studios). They started just in a room without fancy equipment. As they formed the band they went through a lot, even all sleeping in Gigi's living room, and basically lived there to comply with travel restrictions. So they are pretty tight. Gigi always used to say she will always be there for the band since they also stuck with her. With all her success now, I can see she always take the band with her including their recent USA tour. Their sacrifice and hard work paid off. I'm happy for them.

Yeah, I think Gigi related the story of their humble beginnings when Karen Davila interviewed them in her house. She showed the relatively small space where they used to do their live streamings before. It's in the garage of Tritone, their producer, which is just right across her house. Gigi and The Gigi Vibes band had gone a long way from just doing gigs and events because they're really very good and talented musicians.

Being just a singer in the Philippines is not enough, in order for them to stay in the industry for a long time, they need to be a total performer or other talents and skills to back up their singing. For instance, Darren Espanto can sing, act, dance; Morissette also dance and write songs if I'm not mistaken; Gigi De Lana can act, in fact she starred in a series. There are plenty of singers you have yet to discover, and I'm excited to witness that journey of diving deeper to OPM (Original Filipino Music)

You got it! She's scrolling thru the lyrics from her device. Again this is a livrstream where they take request and sing the song. So there would be songs that they dont know very well and still sing it anyway. That is why there are mistakes. Sometimes they screw up and just laugh it out. A livestream lasts for 2 to 3 hours. Gigi sings around 10-15 songs, 20 max on a live stream. Song covers you see on their channels are just a cut from their livestream, just 1 song frm a set of songs sung during the live unless otherwise stated that it is a studio version.

Most bands in the Philippines sing this way singing songs impromptu as requested by the audience. The singers simply scroll their tablets for the lyrics as they sing and belt:) Always impressive!

Gigi De Lana is the sole breadwinner of her family, her mom is sick and diagnosed with stage-4 breast cancer and her parents were separated, that's why she works hard to provide foods, medicine and financial help to her mom. She's a beautiful and caring daughter.

Gigi's cover on 80's and 90's hit songs or even older really hits differently. Here in the Philippines kids sing even their great grand parent's fave song. During family gathering, we usually sing older songs so our older relatives can sing along with us, the reason we know more a lot of songs from the past eras. We'd love to see you on wish bus. Guys if you notice, English is not our first language here in the Philippines. But when our singers sings English language their accent disappears and becomes neutral compare to other asian countries. Shes pressing on her cellphone sometimes for the lyrics and sometimes by browsing from her audience requests via social media apps. I'll remind you guys they don't use "auto tune" here in the Philippines. Its taboo.

She was scrolling through the lyrics. That video was from an original streaming during pandemic they would accept requests on the spot from the viewers. Their whole band is really amazing. That also is the trend in every restaurant in the country just like karaoke. With regards to the expression of the keyboardist at the near end of the song Through the Fire, he was signalling the band to cool down ( he is the musical director too ) , he was communicating with the drummer specifically. That eyebrow thing amongst majority of the Filipinos is common.

There was a time that a lot of bars/pubs has house bands or invite cover bands to play regularly as part of their entertainment and play for 3 hours straight or more - in the Philippines and Hong Kong. Their repertoire are vast because they need to cater to all song requests of the patrons!!! All pros man... Just another day in the Philippines 😊 When you come to the Philippines, go bar hopping and see them in action 🤩

Yeah!!! Regular occurrence in pubs and bars. In 2000s,I love going to this and just listen, request songs and also sing along on stage with this band. Those are the days.

We just moved to Philippines, and caught her show in Manila. You would have loved to react to those songs. When in Phillpines, we should catch up, similar industry from states. For Gigi and vibes, such a wonderful story from the roots to what they have become.

I think…Lucas looks mesmerized, probably how she looks or her vocals. Its really enjoyable to watch pretty singers who sings well, isn’t it?

Gigi is like a one stop shop, if you crave any genre she can serve you anything you want. Versitility is her biggest asset. Philippines have so many talents just like this because we have a lot of singing contests were they could perform their talents. You can checkout also her fly me to the moon performance.

this band, with gigi as its lead singer, is really more like a family. all those men are like her older brothers and they're soooo in sync with each other because, through the worst of the pandemic, they all lived together just so they could keep practicing and making videos (live and recorded) to earn a living. for obvious reasons, performers took a heavy hit during the pandemic and they are all breadwinners of their own families. add to that that gigi's mom is sick. they literally and figuratively did everything they could to hone their talents, accepting every single request, regardless of genre

Hey Josh, "Believe It or Not" is still popular in the philippines. Good tunes are still played over and over. Thats why sometimes you hear old styles in new songs that make e you feel reminiscent. Here, if it's good, whether song or genre, it just doesn't die. 70s songs of all genres are still popular too. It isnt weird that you'd hear Eagles, Queen, James Ingram, Hall and Oates etc from time to time.

The issue for me here is Pinoys are not forcing their way to be appreciated, but just singing their way enjoying their passion and some are to earn some money. It just so happen now that we can record inexpensively...

They have always been live musicians from beginning and I they will be forever bec that’s they’re forte , they don’t know anything otherwise , they’re all talented and have nice vocals too , and I know Jon the pianist didn’t go to school for this , just a God given talent

Live bands tend to bank 100s of songs and singers familiarize themselves with the melody and lyrics books are there since sometimes they forgot the lyrics so they have something to go back to just incase.

The Gigi vibe is one of the best singers group that ever happens in the Philippines ever… She is the best of the best and her band . She can pretty much can do anything period … Please listen to her other covers and they’re they’re just simply amazing and the sweetest vice ever …. It’s what they eat in the Philippines and what they eat everyday seafood, tropical fruits veggies and coconuts juice and everything else in the Philippines what’s makes it very very special of their voices period … Gigi is one of theirs singer that can sing anything period …. It's actually a trend here in the Philippines for singers to sing like it's effortless, like smiling, acknowledging fans, etc. especially on hard to hit notes.

Gigi, Morisette, and Katrina Velarde all grew up joining singing contests almost every week since they were kids so that was their training ground. No music schools or formal music training for these monsters. When you’ve been playing covers at gigs, or if you play as a house band at a venue for a while, you build a catalogue of covers that you can pull out whenever. 👍🏽 There are places in the Philippines where it’s a “Karaoke” in that customers/audience pick a song, but there’s a live band that will play it, and you get up there and sing like a front man/woman. “Rockeoke” is think is what it was called.

In the Philippines, if your a seasoned musician/singer you would have an arsenal of songs that you can perform whenever with or without any kind of rehearsal or preparation.

Since you're getting the vibe of the band scene in the PH, you might want to check out this group of (biological) brothers who do amazing covers from bands of the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's called REO Brothers. They do excellent covers of The Beatles but also do Bee Gees, America, Beach Boys, EWF, etc. They're self-taught instrument players who get invited to perform The Beatles songs year after year at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. Also, other bands worth checking out are indie-folk band Ben&Ben (Araw-Araw, Ride Home, Leaves), funk-rock band IV of Spades (Mundo, Hey Barbara, Come Inside of My Heart, Take That Man), indie-rock band December Avenue (Kung 'Di Rin Lang Ikaw - feat. Moira dela Torre), rock band The Juans (Hindi Tayo Pwede, Dulo) on the Wish Bus.

There's one singing contest here wherein the host of the show requested from the judges (who are also seasoned artist) to sing different versions of the song on the spot. They actually did different versions of the song with the help of the house band. Some of them don't even know the lyrics and had to search for it online. The original was a ballad and they did a rock, christian & reggae version of it.
