if you watch this, while as high as Mike Dean himself, this interview is HILARIOUS

I met Mike when he was just fourteen years old. He was just learning the keys. He had a Yamaha electric grand piano and a Clavinet. Mike is from Angleton Tx. about forty miles due south of Houston. In 1980 we formed a classic rock band and hired Mike to play keyboards for us. Very quiet kid with curly hair at that time.Other band members were Bob Britton, Dale Balint, Les Means, Mike Zak and myself Dennis Blair. We later replaced Mike Zak with Everette Herps on drums. After the band broke up he played with various musicians including Salena, Fred Martindale and many others. He did some recording in our studio in the mid 80's with Fred Martindale. He also did some very good work with a hip hop duo called Def Squad and some other rap duo who's name escapes me. Although I wish he would have gone another route I am still proud of him for staying the course and made a name for himself. We had a lot of fun rehearsing in his boat house. I was 27 at the time and now 61 so I guess that makes Mike about 49.

Straight up ! His sound is like no other, ahead of the game.

some of you are commenting about how this interview made you feel uncomfortable and i guess i can understand that. i think mike's brevity comes from being a pure genius. having worked with just a few that think and operate on that level in my career, they're often just like him. they're quiet, shy, unassuming and don't feel the need to go into tons of details about every single thing. those of us that don't operate on that level often over think everything. he let's go of all that nonsense because he can and he expresses himself with very few words. i'm not sure it makes for the best interview, but i know i'd like to see him on the show more often because i get SO much from paying close attention to what he does say. i could listen and learn from him for days.

I was always amazed at those orchestrated intros Scarface and the ghetto boy albums had! I would read the credits and see produced, mix, and mastered by Mike Dean!

Damn bro , compose , produce , arrange , mix , master all by a one fucking individual. To me he’s like a fucking genius or something

these comments are ridiculous. mike can be a man of few words but there is still plenty of knowledge and wisdom to be taken from this episode. maybe try being appreciative of him taking the time to do the show for the second time and what he does bring to the table instead of being pointlessly critical of his energy level or how interesting you find him.

i'm wondering if you can help me here ... i went to this interview for my kid to see if we could find him talking about working with Eminem and i there really wasn't much ... i would stop and scroll through it . But i admit i didn't do a good job because have to go out somewhere ... can you tell me if there's any place where he actually really talks about working with Eminem ... for more than one or two sentences ?

Mike Dean is one of the best producers EVER in music period not just hip-hp...Has the best sound of ALL producers in the game today(as far as clarity,compression,and balance of highs & lows).... Did most of Scarface's production and Geto Boys as well... Always take notes from Mike when I produce & mix tracks...THE BEST IN THE GAME!!!!

+djtjtoo 72 I'm with you! I still have the Source magazine interview he did years ago when he was still using his old protools rig and yamaha hs8s. Got me on board with the love and art for mastering. The Scarface stuff, like Mary Jane, was immaculate.

70 thousand people at average height would struggle to reach 75 miles when you add their entire height together. Since this is a mixing show and most of the subscribers are likely men, it would reach over 75 miles. That's still damn impressive, and I would say a better thing to marvel at than the joke. Congrats, guys. This show has grown massively since I started watching.
