    Best quote I heard from the Expo "Find a wife that supports buying plug-ins!" I cannot thank you enough Dave, Herb and all the amazing people I was blessed to hang with. After the event Vance Powell and Burl blew my mind at Sputnik. Thank you so much for all the amazing giveaways, contacts, and experience you provided. I cannot think of a better way to drop my latest music video...infinite thanks!

    Holy dang, this episode was philosophically deep... both from a creative standpoint (making creative decisions as a mixing engineer, being able to understand the technology that surrounds you) as well as from a business standpoint (building up your career as a mixing engineer, and making good decisions). Thanks again PP!

    I love Pensado's place. So educational. I have a really hard time following Dave when he speaks though. Some of his questions/comments feel so awkward.

    37min. That´s a nice emulation project. Some algorithm to replicate the roll off and harmonic modulation of the (ahem) fairy dust frequencies when working at the high sampling rates. Just play a mix through a good eq (RS56, etc), add half a db at 16khz and listen to the kick and bass. A fraction of that effect may be what we hear in tape. All that stuff matters. Very little, but is it really that little? maybe that´s what ends up even in vinyl, imparting that elusive quality.

    Diego Oliveira I have utmost respect for Dave, Herb and guests, but the fact remains it's excessive. You can advertise a product without quite so much groveling and spurious devotion.

    koopification No it isn't. When you what an hour long show on TV about 20 minutes of it is commercials, and your mostly likely paying to see it! So quit your complaining, it isn't helping anything. If you have respect for the show you should have respect for the sponsors.

    AdamFiregate Big chance that these are ProAc Studio-100 (www.proac-loudspeakers.com/html_files/Speakers.php?Range=Studio&Speaker=Studio100). They also exist in other finishes but the "Cherry" one, featured up there, are the one to go for (I had the black ones and they don't sound the same ... at all !) ;-) Keep in mind that they need to run for a while before sounding as they should and they need a very, very, very good/powerful amp.

    Did anyone else find the way the Canadian girl at the end was treated kinda cringey? Maybe there'd be more women in audio if they were treated like people instead of precious jewels...

  • @williamwrenner

    @williamwrenner

    9 жыл бұрын

    I noticed this in another interview on PP as well. From my memory, this kind of "precious jewel" attitude was not so much the case with Marcella Araica - an experienced audio engineer who can hold her own in audio discussion; but it seems to be the case for younger women who have yet to demonstrate their own credibility in the audio world. If the few women that do peruse this line of work are to be treated differently, it should be with added respect and a willingness to LISTEN to what they have to say (without assuming or rushing). I understand human (..male) weakness, but added self-discipline, seriousness, and care towards future discussions with young women in particular would go a long way to creating better industry/world. This show is in many ways becoming the public face of the industry - I hope Herb and Dave take these criticisms into consideration and really consider what kinds of messages they would like to send to young women coming up in the audio world. They seem like really nice people with good intentions, so I hope they take these criticisms into consideration and really meditate on the subject. As public figures, the stakes are high.

    Agreed. But I guess that he's happy with the results he's getting from it, so the theory behind it doesn't matter all that much really.

  • @EmilianoCaballeroFraccaroli

    @EmilianoCaballeroFraccaroli

    Henrik Petersson Well, theory matters if you try to make your point from a technical standpoint. It seems that Digital Audio is a blackbox for a lot of people, even guys with long time business careers. Either you know what you are talking about, or you don't. And 'stuff' that I hear, is not a technical explanation IMO.
