It's nice of you to say, but I had nothing to do with the tournament. I just filmed it and turned it into another episode of PRODIGY. The "thanks" for another great tournament goes to Lee Miller, the Chairman of the KCO, and his Board of Directors, all of whom help run the tournaments. They've just wrapped up the KCO's 29th season, and are now getting geared up for their 30th season of KCO tournaments starting this September. PRODIGY is getting ready to wrap up our 8th season, which seems like a long time to me. But they've been doing the KCO for 29 years. Big difference.

I have the privilege to bowl at Nob Hill Lanes in Yakima Washington . Home of Marshall Kent and the late Jim Kent who owned the bowling center and Ten in the pit proshop. Jim actually drilled my ball and gave me some great pointers.

Yes, that is a courtesy extended to the players by Olathe Lanes East. Re-oiling for the stepladder does not happen at most KCO tournaments. But at the KCO Invitational, it does.

It's the 3 pin that hits the 10 pin on the light pocket strike. it misses the 6, hits the 9 on the right and caroms into the 10. the ball barely hits the 6.

The video isn't clear s the ball goes down lane. It's perfect when at the scoring table and ball retur n.

THAT'S your contribution to the conversation? Seriously? Okay, I'll play... We ask an awful lot of these little $14-hundred consumer-grade Sony camcorders (and my iPhone) that we use to film PRODIGY. We push them way beyond what they're actually capable of doing, just so we can produce a "look" that mimics, as best we can, the look of a network TV telecast of professional bowling. But I am very well aware of the technical limitations of these cameras and how we ask them to do some things they're not really made to do. Most notably and to your point, when we film PRODIGY, the cameras are unmanned. In television/film parlance, this is called a "lockdown shot." The cameras are "locked down" during filming, and all the camera moves are done virtually in post-production, otherwise known as 'the edit" There's nobody standing there operating the cameras. All the zooms you see on the show where the camera chases the ball down the lane are done virtually in post-production (the edit) by essentially scaling up the video. It is done this way to hold costs down to next to nothing. Because I make next to nothing in producing this show. I spent upwards of 40 hours editing each an every episode of PRODIGY all for whatever peanuts KZread throws my way at the end of each month. Broken down to an hourly rate, I'd make more money flipping burgers at MdDonald's. But I wouldn't love it like I love producing this show. We film PRODIGY in 4K resolution with these camcorders, and the show is edited in 1080p. That's done intentionally so we capture double the number of pixels on camera than are actually used in the final edit. That gives us a little leeway when editing. In other words, we can throw away half the pixels we use by scaling up the video to 200% without losing any resolution whatsoever. But to chase the ball all the way downlane, I actually scale the video up to about 1,000 percent, five times the limit. That's why it appears to lose focus. There just aren't that many pixels captured on the camera to begin with. Even an 8K camera wouldn't capture enough pixels to support this workflow. But the truth is, for viewers who watch the show on their cellphone, it looks fine. No apparent loss of resolution or focus. And according to KZread analytics, over half our viewers watch the show on their cellphone. So those viewers don't notice a problem. But others might...if they're paying close attention (which a lot of people don't). Bottom line: The problem you point out is something that's always been present on PRODIGY since the show began in 2016. And it is correctable. But to correct it, I'd have to spend about a half million dollars for a minimum of two new cameras (each one costing around $80,000, give or take), and hiring a cameraman for each camera, purchasing live switching equipment (another hundred thousand or so), hiring someone to switch the show live, and all of a sudden, PRODIGY is no longer a show that's created in the edit bay, but is actually a live production, on par with a network telecast. (Except we haven't even talked about the lighting and sound requirements to bring it up to network standards.) PRODIGY is shot on a budget of approximately $0. It has never been intended to be "broadcast quality.' It mimics the look of brodacast quality, but falls short of actual broadcast standards, mostly because it's a zero-budget show shot and produced by one guy -- me. Now, if you're offering to give me the half-million dollars it would take to upgrade our equipment, then I'll be happy to accept, and will thank you for your generosity. There's a lot more that's "right" about PRODIGY that you didn't bother to mention. In many ways, the show is an achievement of ingenuity and creativity overcoming the limitations of budget and technology. But leave it to one guy to point out what's wrong with it. There's always one.
