When I watch your wonderful videos... I remember Bob Ross. it’s so similar to what James does on the iPad, he simply and easily explains what seems complicated, shares his experience and gives useful advice.

Another wonderful tutorial James! I’ve been doing art for a long time, but I always learn something new in each of your tutorials. I come from a traditional art background and I’m now learning digital art and 3D. It’s a very different medium, but the possibilities are endless. Your tutorials give artists of all levels the opportunity to experience the joy of doing a great digital painting from start to finish. Thank you for what you do James!

I love the realism of such paintings and to think that you only used few brushes which come in the app itself is so amazing! I have just started doing this one...and the water ripple effect with the stones shining below is coming out so much better than I thought 😊 Again thank you James for this tutorial!

James, did you consider using the brush Elements > Water for the underwater foreground highlights on the river stones? First apply it to the entire region…The perspective required could be achieved by a warp of the selection, and erasing to limit the effect to the top of each stone? Maybe??

I’m aware of the brush but I don’t think it would sit right with the brush marks already applied. I prefer to teach how to create the effect as much as possible without over reliance upon brush stamps

I'm a beginner trying to learn digital art for a project. following these tutorials is helping me immensely! I feel comfortable learning and replicating the techniques. My problem lies in the fine details of an object.... I was good with this tutorial up until the 30 minute mark... when you started texturing the rocks... you have talent for the way you texture and paint those things. This is where my weakness lies, the eye for detail.

i drew that yesterday first thing i ever drew. i was afraid of the rocks at first but i turned out loving them.. i kind of got in a rush and "followed the flow" of the rocks.. i dont know how to explain. but somehow i could see the rock that i wanted before it was there and i simple tapped a little here and there and it appeared. i dont know if you catch what i mean but try that.

Hi there! I wanted to tell you, that I absolutely LOVE your tutorials and they are so helpful! Also it's so relaxing to draw. Normally I feel stressed while drawing, so this is a wonderful experience for me now! Also I wanted to ask you kindly, if you maybe could do a tutorial about a beautiful bamboo woods landscape with shining light through the bamboo leaves and a small secret path through it. I absolutely adore bamboo woods, but haven't found the right technique yet for the specific leaves. The leaves don't look right to me, no matter which brush I try. Also I make it too complicated by drawing every single leaf. I know there are easier ways, so I am happy you show them to us! Thank you so much for your help, I am so happy to be able to learn from you! ✨💚✨

Couple of mistakes in this one and skipping over merging layers etc, so I ended up winging a good portion of it. Still loved how it came out regardless, though! I've noticed while using procreate despite pressure settings + pen settings being the same as your own that a lot of the brushes/texturing also doesn't come out the same - your brushes seem to be smaller and sharper. Is there a reason for that or is that just ipad dependent?

It would be interesting to see a video of how James comes up with the original version, with possibly much more trial and error, changing plans, etc. I suppose I might learn different aspects of the creative process from that. However I can’t fault these tutorials as they are aimed more at mastery of the medium perhaps(?) Anyway I don’t find them “off putting” because of that.
