Part of the bow section was made elsewhere in the UK (maybe Appledore?) and I crewed the barge into one of the ports, I’ve got a photo of me and my mate standing on the bulbous bow, that must have been 5 years ago now I would think... brilliant to see her sailing now and I hope she keeps her crew safe!

Wal Leece well wherever it was made it left on a barge and hit bad weather so was diverted to another port in the Bristol Channel, it had a large crest on it from memory which looked temporary... like I say I’ve have photos of it.. I’m sure we were told it left appledore but I might have that wrong

Procedure Alfa is the highest ceremonial state for a warship to leave harbour. All personnel except vital crew, mann the upper decks in no1 uniform. So it was with concern that it was noted the rabble on the lower decks in overalls on the well decks with no hats acting like ordinary seamen (OD's). A further alarm was that one was in white overalls which donate an officer, heaven forbid it was a Warrant Officer. STANDARDS

@@jayspik6498 In a crisis, large aircraft carriers can take up to a month before they are operationally ready, smaller aircraft carriers can be ready in a fraction of the time. HMS QE is hugely undermanned, with just 870 personnel compared to 1,200 for FS Charles De Gaulle and 3,200 for USS Nimitz. This means that not only will the crew need to be top of their field. It is also estimated the crew numbers for QE will need to rise, and since the RN only have 22,000 trained crew, for every one hundred they take out to crew the QE and PoW, thats bye bye to another escort. The RN needed crew so badly that was part of the reason HMS Ocean was decommissioned and sold to Brazil. Building my proposed Aircraft Carriers that operate 12 F-35 not only complete the role that the navy had in mind for QE anyway, there would have also been more money to build more escorts. Edit: Fixed 2 Typo's.

After the launch of HMS Dreadnought in 1906, the British people lobbied Parliament for more. "We want eight and we won't wait" was a popular cry in the lobbies as people demanded that number of Battleships. The result? As then Home Secretary, Winston Churchill noted at the time: "The Admiralty had demanded six ships; the economists offered four; and we finally compromised on eight." How times have changed... WrightyPegz well that is an obvious statement with an obvious answer that we recruit more sailors. The reason we don’t have them at the moment is; 1) no recruitment offices 2) better pay 3) better pensions 4) better in service housing 5) better forces ‘in service’ care and bonuses like better discounts 6) better family support 7) better post service support and retraining 8) better attitude from the public to support and respect veterans This is how it used to be, this is how it needs to be. But firstly we need recruitment on the streets, we need those lads and lasses with little prospects to be given a chance in service. This is not happening with the removal of high street recruitment.

There's still pluses and minuses for both styles of radars, the type 45 destroyer uses a rotating radar like this and is considered one of the best air defence destroyers in the world. Its radar is smaller than Aegis used by arleigh burke destroyers, so it can be mounted much higher, giving it better visibility hover the horizon.

That is not exactly true is it? It tactical on fuel and loads serves a function to launch higher quicker. It is not an outdated strategy or tactic due to backward technology or aircraft as you are implying is it. There is a program on KZread here somewhere that explains that as well if anyone finds the link. It was also deemed good to keep it for tradition as well. You will not find anyone who agrees with your view even senior officers in the US Navy. It is not even a quirk British Aircraft carriers can land aircraft back as well with their full loads on i.e not use them.. American carriers have difficulty with that .If anything the catapults are seen as out of date. Who on earth on you with such an opinion not based in any fact all? And to compare this state of the art Aircraft Carrier with China and Russia is also a fallacy.

There are half a dozen corporations such as RollsRoyce who are developing such modular plants based on evolved submarine designs. These ‘plug-in’ containerised mobile power plants could make a huge difference on the capability while keeping up-to-date with efficiently & safety. In future, bring nuclear will not necessitate a ‘built-in’ plant for the lifetime of the vessel.

We might go to war with Iran or China or both and at the moment we wouldn’t survive one day. Billions of pounds needs too be given to the mod and actually by getting more carriers and ships made in the uk will give people jobs and get more money for the government and then start making leisure ships for people all over the world. This is not difficult people. If we get attacked by sea from another country we would be completely fucked because we have nothing to defend ourselves. We can’t keep relying on the USA all the time and now the government want to cut down the new fighter jets we have got coming. The government is not protecting us or our country.

The UK, the USA and the EU are already working on generation 6 aircraft. The UK gen 6 fighter is the Tempest, which should have a flight capable test version by the mid to late 20's. Wars are fought in cyber space and through economies not conventional weaponry these day pal. Plus british tax payer would save about 50 mil per jet and the jets are better ask any pilot

Tell that to Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Israel, Palestine, Bosnia, Serbia, Yugoslavia, Ukraine and more. No conventional weaponry in modern warfare? Where have you been for the past 20+ years.

Compared American Ford Class Aircraft Carrier this British looks like a little boat. To be ashamed is better not to have.

Maybe use the correct grammar, secondly do you know how much those ships cost? And do you know how many people they require? And do you know that they will not serve much purpose to the Royal Navy? And do you realise that a bigger warship is not needed unless you need to increase the number of aircraft you have on board? We have built two warships for the price of maybe half of a Nimitz class carrier, likely a quarter of what the ford class costs. We are lucky to have these. We need to cut the 13 billion in foreign aid and invest more in the navy and airforce, more ships ie destroyers and frigates, I would place these of much more importance along with the astute class subs than an aircraft carrier given they need to be part of a battle group with all what I mentioned present

She doesn't, in fact, look much smaller. She's about 50 feet shorter than a Nimitz. 30000 tons lighter on displacement. However she is one of the largest warships in the world.

That is one ugly ship; Looks like phase IV of a real bad condo project, whose architect took his inspiration from a steam iron.

Well if it wasn't for the British turbo charging their rather primitive society, they probably wouldn't have much of a navy.

It's not an English flag. It's the White Ensign, the identifying, globally recognised flag worn by all commissioned ships of Her Majesty's Naval Service, aka the Royal Navy. It was adopted Fleet wide by the Navy after Nelson died, as he was a Vice Admiral of the white. You dont simply "get rid" of the White Ensign.
