love your videos your review was one reason why i bought my first John Deere last month a D130 . I love my Deere so far it runs and looks Awesome its just to bad the grass is shot from no rain and i only get to use it now once every 10 days or so. I change the oil and all the filters on my mowers every spring no matter what ...do that and it should run for many years. keep making videos man yours are great.

Thanks for the tip on the shifter. Mine has 30 hours on it and was given to me after the original owner got fed up with the slipping belt. Turns out it was assembled wrong at the factory and the FNR linkage that drops down to the top of the transaxle case was installed inside of the belt loop instead of outside. It caused the belt to drag and be pulled slightly away from a good 180 degree run around the trans pulley. it was also run on the inside of the spring hat instead of around the outside. Both resulted in polished surfaces on the spring hat and trans linkage but no damage. My only gripe has been having to pull back on the pedal slightly to shift through FNR. I'm hoping your shift plate trick for repositioning it will help alleviate it! Great followup vid!

I bought a JD D130 5 years ago at Lowe's, at the time they had a special on the 8P 8 cubic ft tilting dump cart. I was thinking at the time that I didn't need the cart but it was included so I took it, and it has turned out to be a really nice thing to have. As far as my D130 all it has ever needed is oil and filter changes, this is my second John Deere, first one bought in 1996, and both have been excellent.

Most of my stimulus money will go to another used john deere if i think it's worth getting 2 or 3 riders are better to have incase 1 breaks you'll still have one to mow with until you fix the broke one. I'm still working on my old craftsmen so when I'm done with it I'll be using it again and put up the john deere L110

Hello Rick. I am on my 2nd John Deere the first one an LA125 blew its head gasket at 70 hours. the new one is an S240. The only thing is you should change the oil more often than Deere recommends. The Briggs and Stratton engines have a weak spot on the head gasket between the cylinder and the push rod journal.

My LA 125 did the same thing. Very easy fix and only takes a couple of hours, been running great ever since. I almost bought an S240 myself but it is still basically a Dxxx Series with a Kawasaki engine. I went all out and bought the X580, makes the LA and D Series feel like little toys.

The new D105's have a General Transmission CT400 CVT sealed transaxle. I just purchased a Husqvarna with a General Transmission RS800 CVT transmission. With the CVT the further you push down on the pedal, the higher gear ratio you get. Pushing all the way down on the pedal gives you maximum speed and minimum torque. By just barely pushing in on the pedal you get maximum torque and minimum speed. If you have a hydrostatic transmission changing the transaxle oil is important. I'm pretty sure you have a CVT NOT a hydrostatic transaxle. You can tell by looking at the back. General Transmission's CVTs transaxles are in a black polymer case. You can look at your rear wheels to tell. If it is silver metal color, then you probably have a K46 hydrostatic transaxle.

No issues with just over 200 hours except the I think they call it the outputs seals on the axle shaft or whatever the seals failed and started leaking but, easy to replace and the updated seal was not that much. Keep an eye on yours and make sure it doesnt leak. Mine however wasnt a bad leak and caught it in good time

I brought D105 new a few year ago. The John Deere reps called two year ago to repair a recall ( I think it was the transmission). The tractor is running it does not seem to move forward on a very slight inclined. Is this a transmission problem. Is the problem with the transmission or belt. I called rep and he said the belt might be loose. It cost me over $200 for the house call and I find it a high. Is this something I can do to repair it?

In October 2017, John Deere issued a Safety Recall of D105 lawn tractors sold from February 2016 through July 2017. The problem identified is that a gear in the transmission may not have been manufactured to spec, and could fail. My D105 serial # fall's within the recall of these units and I received a phone call from our local dealer this week. Pickup & delivery is covered by the recall. To view a list of serial #'s included in the recall go to www.JohnDeere.com/D105-Transmission-Recall

Rick I wish I could unbuy it. I wish I had bought a second Troybilt. I did adjust the transmission guide for the shifter to where it works but it is not a simple task to shift from F to R. I don't think John Deer would give me my money back. It does shift but it is not a smooth easy task to shift. I am going to mowe one more time and make a descision on whether or not to let John Deer look at it. I did buy it from a dedicated JD dealer though. Basically this is not a good transmission design

Just know that this particular model is going to crap out on you at some point, more specifically the transmission. The transmissions are made entirely of plastic and it is going to fail. I had a D105; John deere did a recall on the transmissions because they knew that they were flawed by design. My local Deere dealer replaced the transmission with a new one and it failed right at 8 hours of use. The tractor had less than 20 hours on it. John Deere refused to fix it; a new transmission costs nearly $500. I sold it at a loss of about $800. The "D" and "E" series of lawn tractors are garbage and John Deere knows it. They sell them to compete with other low-end mowers on the market primarily at Lowes and Home Depot, and Deere will not take care of or support this demographic of customers. I was told this by my local John Deere dealer, and I know from my own experience dealing with John Deere.

I heard about all of that. Mine was not on the recall list. So far it's been good. About 50 hours on it. Thanks

Mine is good now that the engine has been worked over good and has fresh new parts in it to help bring it back in working condition. John deere wasn't the brand I was after for a back up mower but it was a few easy fixes what I have left to fix on it is do the gas tank and new gas line and mine will be gravity fed to the carburetor no pumps

If you have seen his videos, he has had had it for more than 4 or 5 years now and supposedly has no problems. But I do agree and I wouldn’t buy a John Deere d105 (now s100 I think) because of how cheap it is made

According to the John Deere manual for the 100 Series "stopping the engine"...1. Let engine run at high throttle without load for a few seconds. 2. Turn key to STOP position. Engine will stop and headlights will turn off. 3. Remove key. 4. Lock the park brake

I HATE my D105!! I've got a little over 60 hours and the pulley that engages it to go forward and in reverse broke. Just a little over 60 hours really!! DON'T BUY ONE!! Trust me! I called the JD dealer close to me and was told it was under warranty. Then then when they get it in the shop they tell me it's not under warrenty!!! Really!! My MTD lasted 15 years the John Deere lasted 2 1/2 years. The John Deere D105 is a piece of CRAP!!!
