Isaac, I gotta say, I really enjoy your videos. You do a great job, not afraid to work! My kind of kid. If only my sons had your drive. May God richly bless you!!!
Hi there, we have a small goat dairy and there is a large cow dairy down the road from us. We purchase dairy calves to drink our extra goat milk. Last year, we fed them hay that had been rained on and left out for a year. We got what we thought was a good deal. Anyhow, the calves did not seem to grow as well. We kept them for about 5 months before selling them at auction.
You take good care of your animals; nice to see,,,,,,😎.
Love the calves the new ones are so cute
I have in my experience found bloat will happen within the hr.I found keeping a 3/8 3 to 4 foot rubber tubing handy.Go in the left side of calves mouth like ur tube feeding u will smell the fermented milk an hear the air escape.Good idea to keep trocar on hand also

My vet told me how to do that. Works great. You for sure know when you hit the right spot by the smell and sound. The bloat goes away instantly.
My favorite cow...... The Rib Eye 😉😉😉
Instead of bottle feeding calfs....try bucket with milk. much easier. I did it for yrs on the farm growing up
I love seeing all your videos sick ore healthy it's all about farming..keep up the good work
Can't wait to see your next video.
I think they are all pretty good looking calf’s
Calves are $35-80 here in WI. Good solid 100 pounders going for $50 regularly. Angus are far spendier though. Straw $5-7 a bale here too.

At what weight do you sell them?

I don't. Just see the market reports on the noon news each day. The $50 mention comes from The Rest of the Story.
If you have Amish down there they may have a sawmill that you can get some sawdust from them for bedding.

If I could find some for free I would definitely use it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Have you ever put a tube down the throat to give a passage way out for the stomach gas? Or a new needle and you’d have to google it but you can poke it into their stomach (beside the belly button) and it’ll allow another way for the gas out fast before it kills them
6cc penicillin down the throat has worked on bloat for me. Thanks for the video

I might try that if it ever happens again. Hopefully not!
If you go to my Wyoming life he made custom bottle holders

Yes I have seen his bottle calf video. His were all in one holder, I’m hoping to make separate holders so I can put one on each pen. His will definitely look better than mine! I am not very good with tools 😂
Hey, I know this video is a year old but just in case someone sees my comment, I noticed that dairy calves who are given a pill for scours are more likely to bloat. I've given many a pill without bloating but never seen one bloat that hadn't had a pill. Some calves just get constipated a couple days after that pill then bloat. What happens is the pill makes their poop to hard and it gets backed up in their intestines then their gas can not escape. I buy bovine bloat medicine at tractor supply and it goes away in about 4 hours. I've never had one die from it though it can happen quickly. I've never flipped them either. Never heard of that until seeing your vids. Mine also only miss 1 feeding then continue milk as usually without any more bloat problems as long as they don't get another scours pill. After they bloat I don't give them anymore scours meds. I only give electrolytes to help with dehydration if they continue to scour.
I have a calf that’s been bottle fed and today she seems a little depressed looking and when I tried to feed her tonight she didn’t want to eat she looked a little bloated but I think she has scours constantly checking for dehydration but she isn’t what would be your recommendation
The second new calf was from an Angus/Hereford cross bull I think you said. What was the cow? And any ideas why the white faced bring more? Great video!

The cow was a Holstein. I don’t know why they tend to bring more around here. It might just be because that is what a lot of buyers are used to. Basically as long as it is black it will do pretty well but having the white face gets a few more cents occasionally.

I'm thinking no Angus in the calf. He is Hereford x Holstein
Ny obsession is to build a bull fattening farm back in Pakistan, your videos are good and inspiring, can this be a good retirement plan?
Are you using soy or milk based replacer? Did you quarantine the one that had the issues? If one has pink eye it's bad if all do it's a wrap. I know you said it turned out not to be pink eye but just giving advice I like what you are doing.

I use milk based replacer from ADM, and no I did not quarantine him I just watched the other really close. He got over it pretty quickly. Normally I would treat pinkeye with 300 la but I wasn’t for sure it was pinkeye which is why I just used a spray, which seemed to work ok. Thank you!

@@FarmandHammer cool I'm not sure of adm reason I asked is I tried soy based and had more dcour issues with that than milk based.
We have goats that get bloated like that too. I think he got drunk on water.... Am I right?

What state are you located in? Are Braham calf available there?
@FarmandHammer

We are in Missouri. There aren’t many Brahma cattle or even Brahma influenced. I wish there was because I like a little ear in cows.
What do you use to treat scours
@FarmandHammer

I just give them a scour pill. I can’t remember the exact name of it but if you scan through my videos there should be one called scour outbreak and I talk about it in there. It’s just a antibiotic scour pill and they are like $25 for 20 of them. Hope that helps!
Always enjoy your vlogs! Have you heard of Cody Creelman? He's a cow vet who makes great vlogs....

Yes I am a subscriber! His videos are very interesting to me. I’m glad he’s making videos again.
It might be worthwhile researching clostridium. We lost a few that way. They blow up fast. There’s a vaccine. Can’t remember the name offhand. Might be worth looking into in case it’s a problem later on when you have a bigger group. I like the white faces too. Good luck
Very nice calves
Great video once again! I started a channel and uploaded my first video this past weekend. I hope you take a look. Good luck with the new calves and God bless.
