Each line shares a dot with the one behind it. When counting the number of dots in a hexagon, you start with 0, then add n (the number of dots in the first line), subtract 1 (taking into account the one you already counted in the previous line), and repeat adding n and subtracting 1 until you've got them all. Since there are 6 lines in every single hexagon, you will have to add (n - 1) 6 times, or multiply 6*(n-1). If you already know the total number of dots in the hexagon and want to know the number of dots, you'll have to work your way backwards by dividing by 6, and instead of subtracting, add 1.

In no. 1, the first team will play against 5 different teams (excluding itself). The second will play against 4 different teams (as the game against the first team had already been played). The third will play against 3. Using the pattern thus far observed, we can guess that this rule will hold true for all such cases and that the sixth team will have no games left to play, which means that the total number of games played will be 5+4+3+2+1 = 16. In no. 2, the total number of siblings is x + y, with x standing for boys and y for girls. We know that the number of boys is equal to every brother a boy has plus himself, or (a+1)x, which is equal to 2ay. The total number of girls is equal to every sister a girl has plus herself, or (b+1)y which is equal to bx. This gives us the equations (a+1)x = 2ay bx = (b+1)y We can equal them to each other and say that (a+1)x = bx and that 2ay = (b+1)y. Therefore, 2a = b+1, or 2a-1 = b. a+1 = b, so if we equal a to a, we will see that 2a-1 = a+1, or 2a-a = 1+1, or a = 2. Then, we can see that 2(2) = 4 = b. I am not certain of any of this, and I wouldn't be surprised if I made a mistake in every single answer I came up with these, but it should show you how stating things formally, noticing patterns, and narrowing down possible options can help you figure out how to answer a word problem, but then again, I can't magically transmit my reasoning abilities to you, so even if I know how to do something and I show you how to do it, you might not necessarily be able to recreate the exact same reasoning process on your own once you face a different set of problems by yourself.

If s=8 it will become 8×6=46 but the given is 42. D/6=× would be better I guess. I'm so confused too😁. BTW how would it be?
