PRO OR NOOB? - OPERATING A MONSTER TIMBER FORWARDER
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I filmed this about 3 months ago. Hornby Enterprises had there huge Valmet 890.3 forwarder at the farm to remove a lot of fallen trees. I had a go at operating the beast, trying to unload some logs!

Great bit of kit. I Like watching Logger Wade run a harvester. Thanks. Be well and stay safe.

Ol logger wade a funny bloke, love his build video's like Blacky and his service truck and bits around the saw mill
That looks so hard to operate efficiently and that guy just made it look effortless! I love watching operators using complex machines like its just an extension to their body. Great opportunity to look at something a bit different, thanks for sharing with us.
Fantastic video George, different machine. Top man
Great video, interesting with a cab tour and crash course in different piece of equipment 👍🏻 Congrats with the +100 k followers, keep the great and beautiful made videos coming 😊
Great bit of kit George, nice to see something different on your channel, by the way any more footage coming on the Balerus crawler, I'd love to see that working for a living again.
You had a good go at it, George good all rounder . That fella is very skilled at his job . Great footage 👍
Really enjoyed that George, we bought a forwarder 6 years ago, i reckon we got it cracked how to drive it about a week ago , all the best Matt.
Awesome machine, I operated a 890-1 valmet over a few contractors I found it much easier and quicker to load trucks than excavator 👍

I think the operator is a magician!! That is some piece of kit!
fantastic video George that is some bit of kit there that would take me even longer to master them controls in that machine LOL
that looks a fantastic machine
What a machine that is, great skill operating it.
Loved it george really cool.
George , that was AWESOME , look difficult for a noobie , i would love a try in that , cheers George
That guy’s skill with the Forwarder was a joy to watch. You could invite him to come and try some bale stacking with the Agri-Pro to see if the skills are transferable! Really good video and something quite different.
I used to operate some old timberjack forwarders and recently, some much newer ponsses. Forwarders and harvesters do take a while to get used to, but eventually you get to where you dont even think about it. West coast oregon and washington have a few sets of these machines that work on super steep ground with winches. Its amazing where they can go
My friend has his license for one of these beauty’s, he’s also doing his test for the harvester, I’m so jealous of him, in a good way though. He works for the forestry up here in the NE of Scotland. Cracking vid 👍
Best left to the professionals George 🙉🙉🙉👍👍👍👍
Thanks George great vid .. Take care sir...
awesome,i remember watching the lads handballing onto fordson majors with racks front and back .little bit of modification you could have an expensive self loading bale wagon
Harder than you may think
That is sweet George 👌🏻
Impressive machines :) Here in Norway there are a lot of these, quite rare to see them without chains and tracks on the boggies :)
Been driving forest machines for about 3 years here in sweden. Goes fairly quick to get used to if you have been driving excevators before. We have 7 komatsus and 1 ponsse and 4 of them are about a year old, a lot more tech in them than the old valmet 890
Bit of a monster that one George nice to see a different machine
Great stuff Men, yes , would imagine it would take a while to get to grips with a machine like that:):)
An interesting machine. 👍👍
Brilliant. What a machine. Fully justified swearing. 👍 Even on film its so weird the cab not slewing with the boom!

Good video George quite a bit o skill required there to get the most from the machine 💪👍
Nice video, greetings Johan
Would love to see a video of the timber harvesting machine !!!
Something a bit different 👌. Always thought a modified one would make a handy round bale carter

George, I think you extended the "Risk Zone" of 30M to 60M?! That gentleman was a good sport to let you have a go. 👍

Hi George Nice Video something different Thanks Again
what did you do with the logs sell them to a timber processing plant or are you using it for firewood?
I just started working for a company as a trainee forwarder operator. I've had loads of experience with a tractor and a crane but these forwarders take some getting used to.
Great video George good 👍 bit of kit keep up the good work George 👍👍👌👌👌🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

Cool video, what do they call these in the states? A skidder is a different yoke isn't it, aka, no buggy/trailer component.

Forwarder in the US

We have forwarders in the US too. Over a dozen companies in Oregon and Washington alone have these machines, some have dozens of them.
Would be interesting to convert it to a self propelled slurry unit, i.e., put a 3k gallon tanker on the buggy. I've seen it done with a dumper but as a potential skid unit, the dumper would probably be good bit cheaper.

Ponsse actually offers a tank unit for forwarder, but it's made for forestry fire control, with powerful water cannon.
I never understand why they have little hand controls why not bigger like the 360s have is there a reason for this ?? Sorry if I asked a silly question but I don’t know anything about the forestry equipment but it definitely looks a weapon tho 👍💯

There is a lot more to do compared to an excavator. Rotate, grab and telescopic functions in addition to the boom and slew functions. Also a good forwarder operator will be driving and steering whilst using the crane. Mini levers make it easier for the fingers to reach buttons for these additional functions and also because there is much more movement needed compared to excavators in is work than using bigger levers.
Those old Valmets just run forever we used to have a Valmet 830.3 it had 23 000 hours on the clock when it got changed for a sampo rosenlew FR28 forwarder
