You NEED to do this with both Super 16 and 35mm film!
Let us know when you make a video on grading 16mm or 35mm film.
You cannot call 8 mm overrated it’s literally gold. Electromagnetic light trapped in crystals digital imagery is dead it’s not about the look it’s not about being hip it’s literally about real estate vs intellectual property. I wish more people knew the philosophical wealth prospect of physical masters.
Wow Gabi this is nice footage :D
I literally just got some scans back last night from shooting Super 8, this tutorial came out just in time! haha

Haha. That is hilarious. Perfect timing, indeed. Send me the still after you grade it. Curious.
Very nice in depth tutorial ! :)

Thank you.
Qazi! This is superb. That curve does quite a ton. This inspires me to film another roll. And pushing that water from greenish to blue brings out the 200T super8 negative character. And it's funny how much time we're spending to emulate this look on digital footage. Great vid brother!

Shot so we'll. Had a blast messing with it. Yeah bro, c curve is always such a difference maker. Again, thank you.

@@theqazman Anytime dear friend!
LUT full screen would have been appreciated as it looked good to me but it’s not as easy to see so small when viewer is on a phone and LUT isn’t full screen. I like the LUT personally and I agree that film has such amazing color capture that it can be LUT and done if that fits the look of the project. Suffering doesn’t necessarily make art better. If art is on accident and it’s beautiful, to me it’s still beautiful. Effort factors very little into my art appreciation equation.
Love Film! I've got some 4x5 Kodachrome I shot back in the day and when I show it to people that ask what is that? Yes to Super 16 and 35mm!
Hell yeah, Sir, beautiful job. Definitely do 16mm
Sir thanks again for your amazing content. I have a suggestion. Lumix S5 ii if you had time

Hey Qazi ! Thanks for this tutorial !! I'm more used to use CST, is there an equivalent to ADX 10 with CST? I tried Cineon Film Log but the results are different. Thanks for all that knowledge you share with us ! Best, Yoann
@theqazman
Жыл бұрын
The equivalent has to be cineon and it should give you close to what we were getting with ADX10.
I wanna see the 16mm grading
love to see 16mm Film tutorial
did you ever do the 16mm grade? i haven't looked yet, but figured i'd comment before just in case you haven't.
Sensationell
How does this process vary for Super 35 or 16mm? I doubt it’s too far off as I had no knowledge of editing film scans before today

Film negatives are the same when working with 8mm, 16mm or 35mm, even with 65mm (or IMAX filmed projects which are also 65mm). That means that you could copy and paste and it most probably would be perfect (obviously poorly shot footage is going to look bad but I'm assuming it's at least shot as good as the footage in the video.
Hey Qazi, You should ask your lab next time what color space they scan the negatives to. The new standard at least in Atlanta is actually Arri-log C :)
@familygonzcartwright
Жыл бұрын
It usually is Cineon log but it depends. If you work with a Control scanner is different from Arri scanners. But yeah, he should ask

Thank you bro.
16mm please
I have never seen you color grade a dark skin person.
🤔 This is just Film. If this came from a Kodak color neg stock, it was probably cut down from 35mm and packaged in s8mm cassettes. And a film scan is ... Just a film scan. Was it a one lite scan? And what format are you grading? Is it a raw format, cineon or prores? 422 or 444? And what gamma? I can go to Costco and scan s8mm and all I'll get back is a one-lite mp4. This is clearly not that. So, aren't you just grading...film? That it's s8mm just means it's grainy as hell with no pin registration. Same with 16mm. There's no difference in stock, just the guage: s8mm 16mm 35mm &65mm. Film numbers beginning with 72 are 16mm, and 52 denotes 35mm. You could just say your grading Kodak 7213 in an 8mm guage, from a one-lite film scan (which one?) to Cineon.

did you watch the video? I said that in there it would've saved you writing a novel. 🤣

Mea culpa, but some comments seem to imply they thought grading 16mm would be a whole new experience, indicating people don't know about film anymore. Also, working with properly scanned or exposed material would be a blessing. I've seen so many tutorials for so many different apps editing, VFX, grading, 3d...and nobody ever demonstrates with how to deal with the mistake; Blown highlights/crushed blacks poorly shot green screen, 4:2:0...my daily bread. Just to be clear, tho, yours is a good channel, good chance I'll buy your course - there always more to learn. So apologies for the novel, I'll have signed copies near the door.

You are working with the modern film here, not the old from the sixties or seventies. I digitize these old 8mm films and it would have been more helpful if you´d done this to these films too.
Your conclusion makes me trust you. So glad you have that perspective, and now you have my heart and mind - my friend. Thank you for everything you do.
