Keith and Renee got a good deal when they got Zatara. I actually love their cat more than any other I watch on youtube. It just seems very well built and very safe. They seem to be very happy with it and are basically living the same lifestyle that that you want but they have 4 kids that also seem to be very happy and comfortable. Thank you for another great video!!

LOL. Nick, I'm a huge fan and your personal priorities for valuation are similar to my own. For this reason I urge you NOT to look at the Balance 526. If you're angry at a P5, that boat will make you apoplectic. This is, in my opinion the very best Catamaran review series on the internet. Thanks so much guys.

@@sashachip With the 'bespoke' boats, you almost 'have to' watch the other reviews just to get a clear idea of the customization that has been added for the specific boat you're on. You want carbon fibre standing rigging and a boom furling main? No problem. Self tacking jib? Sure. Rounded cabinet corners and extra kitchen storage? Of course! The thing I like about the 526 is the philosophy of it. They don't want to build the fastest boat whose performance will degrade when you load it down. They want to build a boat that you can carry all your stuff in, that will still have a lofty bridge deck clearance and do 200nm a day. I think they chose the trade-offs very wisely.

Honestly, the way you are doing reviews is great. You talk from experience and one can notice this very clearly. Please, keep on doing these great work. It's great folks. I personally think that when you look at great SAILING catamarans, Privilège and Sunreef yachts have to be considered, as well as McConaghy, for the more sporty ones among us. As to this privilége, this boat is built with great care to detail, as you said, and the quality of building is simply outstanding. We have visited - just as potential customers, we have no connection to the brand at all - the premises of Privilège, and they really give great care to detail. Mr Gilles Wagner and his team are not pushy. They just want to provide you with a great sailing catamaran, simply the best for you. Honestly doing business. And I guess you have to pay for quality, even if it is hidden in big and small details. It's expensive, but it's good. All the best with your adventures.

Fantastic boat and a great review! Thank you again for taking the time and effort to share this with us. I think your comments at the end are the best measure of value: “ if we had the money would we buy it?.......” I think it best to assume with any boat that you can afford it. Now..will you buy it? Only then do we really evaluate if the quality, customisation and French labour rates are worth it to us. Thanks again! Love what you guys are doing! SK in the UK

Fantastic review! As far as price, something to consider for all: the better built quality the longer it last, other manufactures cheaper until you fully equip it to long range/liveaboard cruising, while this boat may be still slightly more, another factor to include is resale value, comfort is real key.

Awesome boat reviews. Every one of them has been very well done. I particularly enjoyed your review of the Seawind 1600 as that has been a boat I have been very interested in seeing. I can't wait to see how you review the Balance 526. It is rather pricey as well, but Phil Berman is a world class sailor and his designs are amazing. When Phil walks through his boats on his videos, he reminds me very much of how Nick evaluates and explains the reasons for the design, how it applies to actual passage making, functionality, etc. The Balance strikes me as a very high end passage maker with real chops, less posh and more real practical design. Keep up the fantastic work with your reviews and sailing channel.

  • @cordobes

    @cordobes

What exactly was the comment? All Privilège are Marc Lombard designs, so cruisers who have anything less than fantastically balanced and easy steering at all points of sailing should pay some attention to their sail trimming, assuming no mechanical issues, clean hull, etc. If they don't care about sail trimming, which is obviously their prerogative, then they'll likely have more weather helm than they'd like.

Problem with that master cabin is head room. It's about 5' 6" which might be acceptable to some people but will be a major inconvenience for taller folks. I'd much rather have a standard master with at least 6' ceiling height. I could see myself always bumping my head in that master especially in the morning.

Great Video.I looked at this Cat a month ago and really liked it. I think the Build quality was up there with Your boat or a Hallberg Rassy or a Discovery Yacht. That being said I really like the Bluewater 50 inside and out. I went out for a sail in san Diego after your review on a Seawind 1260 and really liked that a lot also and the protective aspect of the cockpit. Cant wait to see what you end up getting. It's chartery, and would need many additions for blue water, but at that base price, it seems still a good value. I love the helm station for a lot of reasons but unlike some cats, you are not going to fall out of the seat onto the side deck and possibly overboard in rough seas. I scored it exactly the same as you in every category except value. I thought it was a bit of a good value. For the extreme high quality of everything, all the options, the giant master suite, size of the boat and more, I estimated it would be just over $2 mil. I was surprised when it came in just under that. Gets so much right except for the interior nav station. Aft facing isn't that bad, not great, but not bad, but if you are going to be back there and then want to turn and see where you are going, the fore facing windows are way too small. Over all though, that boat is built for passage. So many safety rails and items plus so well protected at the helm. Looks like it would work well in northern latitudes if you so desired. Might be the best one you have reviewed.

The Privilege Cat's are heavy and that is one of the reasons I like them.....comfort over speed any day. The Zatara Privilege is quite fast but that is due mostly to its longer waterline. For me, it is the sail, not the destination and a inside helm facing forward is a must have. You two are giving the best, most thoughtful reviews I have ever watched....thank you both!!

Perfect review. I agree with your opinion that a luxury and well built boat does not always represent some practicle desired features. I must add, again, that a slow boat looses points in the safety zone, as being faster you will spend less time when crossing oceans, therefore being less exposed to its risks.

Plain and simple I love the expansive view from the other boats like especially the Lagoon, and not just from a night watch or Navigator’s point of view. You’re likely sailing to beautiful places, so why once again put yourself back in a boat hole where you feel you have to work at seeing out. ...and frankly, I’m surprised at that. Why can’t these be big expansive windows? Who dislikes that? I venture to guess too some who buy this expensive boat may not be sailing it themselves all the time. Then second there’s the price of this boat and that situation. How many will be having to exercise caution with air cond usage while on anchor? I say it’s not super likely this boat will spend lots of days at anchor or on a ball. It’ll be plugged in most days, I’d guess, but then I’m the sort who hates using air when in any other good configuration I could be having a nice breeze come thru the salon. Cheers you two. Superb Job! 👏👌 💚

I've watched so many of your videos - and this is my all time favorite - would you please tell me more of your thoughts about that master spanning the full width of the boat - do you think it'd be comfortable to place the bed there? We love the size, but strategically would you get more seasick. Please keep in mind we'd only be sleeping while at rest, not while traveling. Mahalo for your thoughts

Nick This is a boat you buy used. 5 years old yields massive savings. I will buy this boat used rather than a new boat for the same price. It is the best in class. Will serve you well for many years. May I suggest you look at a used Privelege 585. For reference, you can follow "Sailing Zatara".

Beautiful boat indeed - so well finished. Bit dated looking though vis a vis the limited views and the sloping cabin. Apart from the master the beds look really small too - hardly a double. Nick said they were big and heavy and probably slow but Wiley Sharpe did a review on one and stated the owner had topped 17 knots crossing the Atlantic (not surfing). Relatively cheap too at 899k USD - don't think it sold. Great channel guys. Fair winds from NS.

beautiful boat, thank you for the tours of the two different layouts! my thoughts 1) master cabin is a no starter for me. sorry, but im tall and despite how others may live we DO spend a lot of time in there. 2) no engine bay review? just a thought... that MIGHT be important someday... and 3) i definately got the sense that Nick felt somewhat how i did: nice but i'd never buy one its too expensive.

This is the hybrid Series 5 Privilege looking at the throttle at the helm....perhaps explains why Privilege did not allow access to the engine bay. A look at the Series 5 with the Torqeedo Deep Blue solution would have been fantastic....seems they are stealthy about the project and are keeping quiet.... competitive reasons I guess??

Too new and prototype... It's more likely to be a Hodgepodge of off name Lithium, unkept wiring, and aftermarket Electric SailDrives that would turn off a buyer.

Considering the $20,000. cost of a generator and the price of 2 diesel engines, you can buy an amazing amount of solar and lithium. The price breakpoint is now in favor of electric boats, would be nice to see more venders offering this option from the start, rather than a ADD ON. REALLY Love your reviews, very well done and unbiased! CHEERS Steve h.

Another informative comprehensive review! I hope you do a review of Balance 526 or 482. The 526 can be built with a fixed keel or dagger boards if the owner desires. The Balance 482 cost ($980,000 dagger boards only) a good deal less than the 526 ($1,440,000) and may be more is the range with your budget? I look forward to more of your videos.

I too really enjoy your real life video presentation. If 58' is too big and luxurious, maybe the Series 4. As for performance check out Zatara ( Privilege 585) and their experience. I have been quite surprised at some of their performance experience. Also like the Balances, Majestic and especially the Antares GS.

The review of these 2 catamaran are very well done, and the amount of work from the Privilege team is outstanding, they are making luxury catamaran with great materials, ie Corian, Leather, fine woodwork and excellent finishes and design all tailor made ! This is why it is more expansive, it 's about the weight and the displacement too. The french costs are related to the "artwork, material, design and time", hours spent to deliver the best product for luxury boat life. Comparing with a Neel 47 which is also made in France is another benchmark, opposite what you are saying.....So please take it into perspective. The premium brand bings in other values, like Outremer, they provide outstanding performance cats good quality design, and training, etc. The country of manufacturing is not all in the price (value for money) !

Excellent review, as usual. I love your open reactions. Whilst it is undoubtedly a beautiful boat it wouldn’t suit me. It doesn’t really sail. Would make an excellent home though, assuming one can afford it! No idea about the scoring thing but mine would be lower than yours. Fair winds

Great review on a beautiful boat. I do agree that the owner cabin does not have the headroom required for such a gorgeous boat. Do you believe that if they (Privilage) had increased the the headroom in the owner cabin by say 1' (0.3 m) that it would be more comfortable to the end user? This could be accomplished by either raising the ceiling 1' (0.3 m) or lowering the floor 0.5' (0.15 m) and raising the ceiling 0.5' (0.15 m). With this in mind, the helm would need to be raised as well for visualization of the bow. Would have loved to have seen the power plant on the electric version as I believe this is the new wave of propulsion for sailing with a motor. Great video, please keep'em coming. Oh and my rating would be: Safety & Design 9 lacking interior visibility for internal helm. Build Quality 10 Just beautifully constructed Interior Design 8 lacking headroom in owner cabin and ventilation Performance 7 While not fast, I'm sure it is comfortable (slow and steady) She is lets just say a big girl. Value for money 6 While expensive, I'm considering all the "quality/craftsmanship" put into this boat. You have to pay for craftsmanship as it's not free. Total 40
