This film was the first in the series of "Leçons particulières de musique" (private music lessons). Although it was originally conceived in 1987 as a pilot for the nascent Franco-German cultural channel Arte, known at that time as "La Sept sur FR3", René Jacobs, then at the height of his vocal powers, agreed to take part in the adventure. The film may be viewed today as a unique historical document on the interpretation of Baroque music in general and Handel in particular.

First time I see a video of Jacobs singing!!
Heard him in Arles (Provence) in 1985, accompanied by Konrad Junghänel (lute)... Time goes by but this remains an unforgettable moment of music with a great artist.

In 1985 I heard Jacobs and Junghänel in Spain and I had the priviledge and honour of talking to them. UNFORGETTABLE! Junghänel even let me play his lute. Those were the days....
A stunning talent. So glad to have this live performance at the height of his powers.
I first heard his recordings around 1976 and this is the first time I've heard his spekaing voice.

+Dalton Filho It's Rosanne's aria "Alla sua gabbia d'oro" from the opera Alessandro HWV 21 by Handel. Before it she is singing the first movement of the cantata "Mi palpita il cor" HWV 132 B (Jacobs sang at the beggining of the video HWV 132 C which is the version for alto)
