And he could have driven it away as soon as he noticed the smoke, car would most likely have been just fine. I really don't like this style of reporting, video starts out with self-aggrandizing statements, everything is dramatized, and then the moron actually *starts* a wildfire by parking his exhaust over dry brush, then just keeps on filming to make his point.

I worked on the fires in 2016 in Orange, Homboldt, and Trinity national Forrest. The CDCR guys are the most respected, nice and humble workers out there. It’s sucks bc we were told not to communicate with them in any shape or fashion. Not even simple gestures as hello or waiving. But they worked hard and were always humble. That’s all I got.

This Sylmar fire was from November 2008. Seventy mph Santa Anna winds. After 12 years the problem has only grown exponentially worse. They should consider early parole for teams like this altogether, as a unit. Halfway house room and board and employ them together fire fighting. Rehab not just slavery.

Many years ago, I fought fire with inmates like this. As a non-inmate firefighter, we were forbidden from even talking to the inmates. They do the very hardest jobs to fight wildfires. We all train to know how to do it but city and county firefighters rarely actually do that hard work. We make a good bit of money for our time fighting the same fire in which these brave inmates get paid only $1 a day to face the toughest work in the most dangerous conditions the fire has to offer. They say that slavery has ended in this country but it remains, at least in part, when incarcerated individuals make pennies compared to the rest of us doing easier work on the same job and, in some states, they are required to work without making anything at all. I don't think any crime justifies someone having to work for nothing or next to nothing. They ought to make at least the minimum wage and they should make both for the hours they fight fire and for the hours they train to be competent and fit enough to do so. We may not be able to tell the inmates but the rest of the firefighters all have a deep respect for them and the hard work that they do to help us put out the fire. I'm really glad you were able to facilitate this meeting between this inmate crew and the owner of one of the houses they saved because it's a rare event when someone who has been an inmate is treated like a person, let alone the heroes that these firefighters are. If we want people to be able to come out of jail or prison and succeed, we, as a society, have to be willing to give them a chance and I say this as someone who has never gotten more than a speeding ticket.

It is possible to change heart and it is possible to be fruitful citizen even with the a lot of rights are suspended due to the prison rules. Being an inmate doesn't mean the end of a journey to that person. This men and women in prison have atlist one skill better than others. The question is how to explore ans use their skill for common good. This is documentary gives one of the one answers. This fier fighter Inmates had acquired some fighters fighting skill which qualify them to get a decent job in thier local fire brigades when the finish their time and join the community. And I am certain they could do the job as equal as trained fierfighter if not better. Exemplary work boys!

All sates could learn from this. They say prison is for rehabilitation but it really isnt. Its a waste of taxpayer money. Teach them THIS kind of stuff. Show them how to be heros instead of zeros. Give them a different purpose. Show them how good it really feels to save lives instead of ruining them and im willing to bet youll see less repeat offenders.

The truly sad part of this is the human cost as those inmates with all of their training and gained experience will never be allowed to use what they learned as a firemen once they have served their time😥 as the rules of this society and Capitalism that governs it the system must have slaves or the system fails. By way of the 13th Amendment slavery was kept alive and well as Capitalism demands the practice be upheld.
