The reporter says that the brother-in-law seemed like he was waiting for someone to ask if he had some part in his brother-in-law's disappearance, like his answer sounded suspicious because he was waiting for the question. But of course he was waiting for the question. If you're the last person to see someone alive, you will be the obvious suspect. You will expect to be accused and held for questioning, at least. As for the police asking Robbie to fire his gun, if Robbie shot Dave, he'd need to cover for the reason his gun had been fired. And the obvious way to do that would be to say he fired into the air to try to get an answering shot from his brother-in-law. Unless they thought Robbie shot Dave with Dave's own gun. The police could have visually checked Robbie's hands and gun and found no reason the check his gun forensically.

In hindsight it seems they should have tested for gunshot residue and also checked the vehicle. But at that time they thought they were just searching for a lost hunter. Not a murder victim or a dead hunter. So I can see why they would not have taken those steps in those frantic moments they were beginning the search. It wasn't a criminal case at that point.

Maybe the wife was told to keep quiet by the police as it might affect any future covert investigation, or maybe she was threatened with harm to the children since she said she didn't want to pursue an investigation into his disappearance and gave protecting the children as her reason. It's strange that Joann should engage in such a complete break with the other side of the family just because David's side cares enough to want to know what happened, especially when she was asked what kind of person David was and she responded that David was "the best". Nothing was pursued regarding the two bikers heard that day. The Coroner should have declared his death as an "unknown", because there is no evidence one way or another as to what happened, but declaring David's disappearance as "no foul play" precludes any further action on the part of the police. Strange that they asked Rob to fire his gun. The first thing I thought of was GSR to rule him out. Since David was such a high value person, the police should have treated the whole thing as misadventure going in and evaluated his vehicle before allowing it to be used in the search. As usual, the police did a poor job of handling things. Personally, I'm with Paul Prideaux, that this is misadventure. They should have found his remains or personal property at some point. Were cadaver dogs or blood hounds used in the search? Also, there is key evidence, the discs, that have gone missing with the police claiming they never existed when too many people know that they did. Arguably, there is something here that hasn't come to light yet. Something involving organized crime. Something the police are sitting on for their own reasons. I hope for the sake of Paul Prideaux and the families involved this mystery is solved in their lifetime.

Even after police (against searching protocols) used the victim's 4WD to transport themselves during the search, that does not mean that any blood traces, if they had been left in that car, wouldn't be retrievable; it is very unlikely that using the car a few times would have wiped them off so completely that the ultra-sensitive forensic methods that now are in use would not show their presence and allow for their testing.

One has to be curious if a gunshot on one side of the mountain could be heard on the other. Motorbikes aside. So what could be the motive? Crime in the prison, sexual infidelity, Prisoner with friends of revenge on the outside, double cross A, B, C. At the beginning I wonder just how many people knew of his hunt, where he would be hunting, and what time/dates. Who initiated the coroner's inquest? Smells like police cover up on a massive scale ... meaning complicity on a grand scale ... or more likely someone in authority/influence who could pull strings to expedite the coverup.

It's punishment not a summer camp. Suck it up, follow the law, and stop whining about prison treatment. From other prisoners accounts, David treated prisoners with respect. If you have a violation complaint, go through the courts like everyone else has to. Don't plug your grievances in comments like this. So childish. Most likely he had a medical emergency, heart attack, broke a leg, something. However I had a dear friend killed in a hunting accident, so I am shocked they didnt interview the brother in law. Do I think he did it? Not really, but it just seems like a normal part of an investigation. But seriously , I have a big, very close family. Shame on them all, for not putting their siblings and family ahead of everything else!! Running off on their own little tangents. Why the brothers are so sure he was murdered seems ridiculous to me. I am aware that they viewed their brother as some sort of superman, I am the oldest of my siblings, and I know they view me as the strongest too. But I am human, and so was he. He can still be their hero, and be human too. Again shame on them for allowing their family to fall apart! They broke their moms heart, how disgraceful. Occums razor the most simple explanation is usually right. Yet they allowed themselves to be divided over a theory, with little to no evidence.

I think the Brother-in-law did it and that the wife found out about the affair before he went on that hunt and she had him killed. It's strange that she didn't want any more searches. If it were my, husband, I'd never stop looking and trying to find out what happened. The Brother-in-law probably killed him and then dumped his body a ways away, in so knowing that people would conduct a thorough search right around that area. And, for him to say, that he's an impeccably "honest" person, come on, give me a break, that right there should have raised suspicion. I do, hope, though, that eventually they find out what really happened. It's a very sad sad situation 😪

I wonder why nobody checked to see if David had even gone missing at that location. The only evidence we have that he was there is the known intention to go there and that visitors log he wrote in. But I didn't see the brother in-laws name in that book (unless it was on the previous page). Did anyone verify that the log was done in David's handwriting? Could if be that for whatever reason, they decided to go somewhere else? Maybe the in-law forced David to a different location. This would explain why his body was not found. Of course, it could be that he simply was not found because of the terrain. That's possible. Very possible. I don't see how someone from his prison life could have followed him up there or ambushed him there. Only a family member would be able to accomplish that. I also did not hear any motives regarding the family or the brother in-law that would cause the in-law to kill him. Maybe there were other family issues that would give rise to the idea of getting rid of him. But it doesn't seem to have been investigated. Definitely a baffling case. But I don't think all avenues have been investigated. Especially the idea that David even went hunting in that area at all because he was either made to go elsewhere or made a mutual decision to go elsewhere and an accident or foul play happened at that other location. Wish I knew the answers to that.
