Exposure times of the resin are often listed on the bottle itself, but even with that it will be trail and error to find the right sweet spot for your printer and resin combination.

I found that I like the elegoo plant resin in gray, but I am hesitant to experiment with anything else because of the required investment. I don't have hundreds of dollars to try out a bunch of different options. If I did, I would have bought a better printer

hank you for these tips. I just recently bought an Elegoo Saturn, so I'm still very new to it. So far I haven't had any misprints, but the prints are very hard to get off the platform and the supports are really hard (3.5s exposure time vegetable resin). I will try to go down with the exposure time. By the way: I think it's good that Julia speaks so slowly and clearly. Even as a non-English speaker you understand her very well :)

this single handedly cured my terrible quality prints. THANK YOU!

Holy crap. Absolutely marvelous. This is a must watch video for anyone who is 3D printing. I've started doing resin mixes, and this info will help me nail down the exposure times. Looking forward to future videos, but I personally would like to see one on lift speed, height, and light on delay. There is just so much... I wouldn't say bad information, but biased or misinformation out there. Thank you so much for doing this.

I've been watching resin printing vids for over a year now. I have yet to invest money in a printer. I will most assuredly be watching this vid and more from you when I finally take the plunge. Thank you.

i got one recently, and the main thing that is missed, is how much space you need. id say to be comfortable you need 6x the footprint of your printer. (for a ender 3/fdm you could get away with nothing, alot of the time) . you need 6x for the lid, wash and cure and its lids, tank etc, and the rest is area for handling the prints. oh and you need more space for all the consumables (i go through alot of kitchen roll)

Wow, I really need to watch more of these videos, great job! I have been floundering with why I'm losing details and this video has given me the method of what to trouble shoot.

Hey! We are using a brazilian brand called Quantum 3D. This resin is more malleable and was created for RPG's. As for the settings, we use: (Anycubic Mono) Normal exposure time: 1.00 Off time: 0.50 Bottom exposure time: 55 Bottom layers: 4 Z lift distance: 6 Z lift speed: 4 Z retract speed: 6 Anti-alias: 0 These work well for us, but the “right settings” vary a lot depending on resin.

Really cool video! I never had, for the moment, any problem printing models coming from Loot bundles, but I see that I can improve the details with your recommanded settings. I would be interested by a video comparing various sorts of resins (from different brands, classic or water washable...) and the settings for each of them (if it really impact or not). Great work!

Antialiasing has always been a topic I don't think is talked about enough. It's probably a bit harder to talk about as well because different printers do it differently as well as different slicers.

Great video ☺️ I more or less have my print settings sorted out but I might actually have a look back on layer exposure on some small tests as I print everything at .03 layer levels.

I found that with my Mono X a incorrect print time can damage the FEP as I trashed the FEP that came with the machine with just three prints. After that I read the manual fully, which you should encourage people to do, as my primary problem was I didn't change the LED power settings as it's set to 100% from the factory. From reading the manual I learned to set it to 80% for the resin type I was using as stated in the manual. Later on I learned that when testing exposer times start with the low end and monitor the FEP as if you start on the high end the FEP could get damaged and made cloudy or even burnt. So, don't start with high exposer times and work your way down start low exposer times and work your way up. I managed to damage two FEP's before learning this lesson. I generally go with a layer height of 0.03mm as I need my prints to be dimensionally stable. The other learning curve I am still on is dealing with resin shrinkage. Perhaps you can make a video about that and show some tips and tricks of the trade. For now I take the prints out and wash them then let them sit in the dark for up to a day before curing which gives me around a 1.05-1.20% shrinkage using the Anycubic white resin.

very interesting coment ! I too struggled back in the day, because of the power settings. Mine was at 50%... I set it up to 80% and It worked well. I have a question though, I never tweaked the layer height and let it at 0.05mm. Reducing it to 0.03 made what kind of diference ? Because I don't understand what you mean by " as I need my prints to be dimensionally stable".

The video seems pretty simple and tackles the real issues without distracting, so kudos. Do you happen to have worked the basic grey anycubic in this printer, and if yes, would you be so kind to tell me if you had an optimal setting, to have a referance point to offset my tests around? It's about time to start printing this sick Valhalla package and I want these huge ships, valkyries and Jotun to have the best quality they can! By the way, out of my subs, you are still the only one to prepare and presupport both 32mm and 75mm versions, making printing preparation almost a 2-click experience. Well more time for me to learn how paint them. And I appreciate that. Keep up the good work.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing your knoledge, and the resources for the tests. I usually print with 0.025mm and 2.5s in my Mars 2 Pro, and now I know why I find some printing errors sometimes (mainly lack of definition in some parts and attached supports). I will try to reduce the exposure time to 1s. My prints are good now, but it can be better. And a tip. To remove the supports, once the pieces are clean, I usually soak them in hot water for 5 minutes. It is very easy to remove the supports and barely leaves marks.

Great Video, thank you. I had such a hard time removing the supports on my first Loot prints! I will do the test, but already know that the exposure time is way to high on my Elegoo Saturn! It might be good to keep a list of printers with specific resins as a look up table to find a default setting that worked for others. Keep up with these videos.

Wish I saw this video before blindly setting numbers from a spreadsheet I found and taking months of lifetime out of the FEP, 11 secs at 25 microns might sound crazy if you know what those words mean, but I had no clue. And well, now I do! Thank you

I've found that when the ambient temperature drops in winter (printing in unheated environment) its important to increase the exposure time to prevent failed prints.

It would be cool to see a video of how to slice up and scale up different models. I see in the back a couple of upscaled models, but in my printer it would be impossible to print complete as they come, so I would have to divide them and them glue them together.

This video was amazing! I think the only constructive criticism I have is that I'd like to see more side by side close ups of each setting. I see you focused on the 1s vs 3s, but I wanted to see more of the 2s and maybe 1.5s too. I would love to see a setup & clean up video! Specifically: - How to properly clean your FEP/resin vat after finishing a print - How make sure minimal resin is lost when returning resin from the vat to the bottle - What kind accessories and processes you have to make sure the pre and post printing process is as organized and clean as possible - How to set up the best environment for printing. I've heard that ambient temperature can impact how the resin behaves, for example.

I have noticed that I have to adjust the settings for model companies as well. It seems the latest Loot models print well for me at 8 sec (Elegoo Mars Pro with Elegoo Standard Gray) but another provider I am working with this week I have to pump the settings up because their supports are weaker. Also, I have noticed the older Loot model supports are not as good - which means Loot is getting much better at doing great supports.

The center of my infinity symbol is off-center (to the left a bit) from the squares. Meaning the two points meet, but not right in the middle. What would cause that? (anyone know?)

Ok so i must have chosen the right printer. I see alot of resin printing videos to dial in great prints...after countless fdm printers i decided to go resin. About a month ago and a bunch alot research bought the Qidi i-box. I have pulled it from the box, leveled once and have ran it nonstop since. Every single print has come out perfect. Not one fail. It came with chitubox so thats all ive used and new to resin so just used what it came with and used water washable black resin. I thought that this was the same and all resin printers were this easy but apparently that is not the case. It seems like they all have their issues. So i have to say everyone should get one of these printers cuz theyre flawless. Aside from being larger theyre perfect. Super easy, no maintenance, silent, the best quality prints ive seen and really, really fast prints with built in curer and drip rack for the vat. All said and done if anyone is looking to get great prints and super easy use...get one of these printers and save yourselves unwanted headaches...and its 100 bucks cheaper than the anycubic and wayyy better.

I saw someone else ask for this and I will second, let's see information about various resins. For example, I usually use Elegoo Standard Gray but am finding the smaller minis are very rigid and break easy so am turning to other resins that are more flexible (still experimenting). Also, the cure time is pretty important - too much curing makes the minis hard and fragile as well.

Exposure and post-processing surely have an influence on the brittleness of the final product, but the type of resin used is also important, often mixing in a little bit of one of the "ABS-like", or "tough" resins can make a big difference, you don't, necessarily, have to change resin type entirely.

I would like advice on which resin/colour is best for printing your minis

I would like to see a video about lift speed and distance and what they do and mean. I've head you can't go to fast or too slow. Also some of the settings in lychee confuse me like "search for ground". I've changed the numbers drastically and noticed no changes.

Great, helpful video! I was a little scared about the bare hands on the pieces when I'm not sure if the pieces were completely cured or not. It's advisable to use gloves until the resin is completely cured. It is also easiest to remove supports before curing, so this is why I was concerned about the bare hands.

Hey! In the scenes we show in the video, a pre-cure was made, allowing us to have contact with the minis without gloves, but only for demonstration purposes. However, during our daily printing process, everything is done with gloves and the removal of the supports is done before the final curing.
