If anyone thinks this song has a sad ending, let me offer a different perspective: I think when Pinkie went “stop. Stop. STOP!” at the end, that symbolized her stopping her negative thinking. We then see her outside having fun with the modern versions of everyone. I think she’s finally realized that even though time goes on and things will never be the same, she still has her old and new friends that will help her if she needs it. She’s learned that she WAS a fool for thinking that her friendships died when Twilight learned to fly. They never died, they only got stronger. :)

Then HASBRO -asked- *demanded* a "Royal Wedding" (to be released on the same week a real_life one was expected to happen). . Twilight was ment to "replace" (in magical duties) both Celestia & Luna since the begining (the "Big Crown Thingy" was just THERE on her head all the way back in episode 2). Adding wings to her was never "necessary", since the "representation" for each of the pony tribes would be given by the rest of Mane 6 [with Twilight herself representing the "aristocracy" of Canterlot & Rarity precisely NOT (a "humble" unicorn born in a rural town)]. -> Everything was "already set up" by Season 2 ("just in case" the Syndication Strategy FAILED & the show was cancelled).

I have a small bit of insight on the matter. I didn't enter the fandom until the hiatus after the third season, so even though I had heard indirectly about Twilight "winging it", i still wasn't prepared for the final episode (at that moment) being this huge, dynamic-shifting alteration to Twilight's person. Anyway, I was 28 at the time. I'd lost my deadend job in Western Kansas, and I came home to the marshes of the southeast portion of the state in fairly dour spirits. Now, one thing that had remained a constant for me throughout my life up to that point was the availability of my friends. We were a tight-knit group; always had been since grade school. Just as always, they were there to help me pick up the pieces and start anew. I took it as granted that things would always be like this; that we'd raise families together, and our kids could share the same experiences we had in our youth. It wasn't a far stretch to believe; we had always been together. Why should it change? I'm now 36, and have fallen largely out of touch with most of my childhood friends. It seemed to happen so fast; like the climax of a dream. One minute, I was able to rely on their availability on a whim to drive off to the city and scour back-alley game stores for stupid discounts on retro video games. These days? Hardly anyone's around. My phone remains largely silent; their contact info vestigial, at this point. I guess this is a long, winding way of saying that Pinky's feelings in the song mirror what a lot of us experience, when we get busy working, driving, eating, sleeping, repeat. We get so caught up in the drudgery of the daily grind, that when we finally look into the mirror and notice the gray hairs sprouting everywhere, reality straight donkey-kicks us in the face, and it's only then we realize how much time has passed. It can be a jarring experience; and I do find myself feeling incredibly melancholy at times. Dreams have gone unrealized; ties have severed. Why couldn't the old days last forever? Why do I feel more alone than ever before? Where are my friends? What happened to us? THAT'S what this song (and the original) are about. TL;DR:. It's about feels, yo. Gobs and gobs of feels.

The song is insane, and the idea for the story is pretty funny, but I have to say I'm kinda confused about the end of the story? Like, at first Pinkie thinks things were better in the old days, but I don't understand the contrast at the end with the lyrics saying "it was better back then" but the visuals being of Pinkie smiling and being happy, ending with Twilight hugging her with her wings, that seemed to be the core of her problems? Awesome song overall, and the animation is great aswell ^-^

Good theory John Doe, But I don't she actually stopped. I mean the Cake Twins are still babies afterall in that moment. Besides I don't think she hates Twilight Wings, I think she hates whatever came after that Ascension. Before her Ascension was a Golden Age for MLP This entire song is dedicated for that time of Age. All sorts of fan works were being made in that time, Really good Fanfics, More Animators, More Songs, generally everything was better.

But I assumed that time had passed because the Cake Twins were flying and using magic (even though they managed to perform magic at a young age, it still shows a development from when they first were shown being held by Mrs. Cake.) Not trying to argue, just wanted to explain my thinking!

This song hits me a little, I was fan of the show between 2011 and 2014, I ended stop watching shortly at the start of season 4. I lost interest on the show and the fandom was getting too toxic for my taste. From there my mind simply tried to ignore the show and any reference I found about it. Then in 2020 i rediscovered the show thanks to some article about edgy fanfics, I recognize many fanfics there. I knew the show ended already but I really didn’t care much about it bad then, but between the nostalgia and not much to do with the lockdown... i decided to watch it. Damn by the end the show really advanced it’s story and characters, it feels weird how twilight lives in a castle instead of her treehouse or that rainbow finally became a wonderbolt... the only thing that didn’t took me by surprise was the cmc getting their cutie marks, a friend told me about it when it happened. But really, many things changed in the show since I left. I think the biggest changes in the days I watched the show was the introduction of new characters, for that I guess it was so big a deal when twilight learned to fly. I miss those days, but I know that getting obsessed with the past means that I can’t see the present much less the future.

I started to loose some momentum between 4-6 but I jsut changed my perspective on what got me into the show. I started getting heavy into the official MLP novels, comics, and short stories I could buy off amazon. Thats where I started the important world building and seeing how "dark" the world is around Equestria out of view of the show. Even then the show did a fair job showing that over time anyway. I never was deep in online affairs so outside of charities and benchmarks for helping others, i was fairly out of the loop/

i love how songs can bring out emotions in characters i would never have thought about. you deserve more subscribers

The highlight of each month for me are Prince songs.

AW DAMN. What an original-appropriate mix of nostalgia and social commentary for those trapped by it. You know...like a lot of us now... Haha... (Even worse for me since I've been TwiPie since S4)

I love the hilarity poking at the various disappearing background characters and controversies over the course of the show xD.

This song is amazing. The lyrics are excellent, rythm is wonderful, instrumentation is spectacular and it’s got that nostalgia feeling to it that for me is hard to describe. I joined the party very late as a brony (started watching the show a year and a half after it ended) and I can relate a lot to the bridge and last chorus of the song. Those words are the mere representation of the thoughts I’ve been having lately. It makes me think of all the fun I’ve missed because of my stupid prejudices about the show, the fandom and because of the negative people around me. Now I regret it with all of my soul, but it’s inevitably for me to feel incredibly depressed. Where is time going? Thank you so much for this beautiful piece of art.

Wow, the same thing happened to me. I only started watching MLP in August 2021. I see the dates of the best moments of the fandom and I feel silly for not having started earlier, I had the opportunity there in 2014, but my prejudices and immaturity prevented it. It is normal that you feel sad, I also feel that sometimes. However, time does not turn back, we can only thank that we ended up joining and enjoying the new memories that we create. I would say she already recovered. At the end she went “stop. Stop. STOP!” And then she was shown out having fun with the modern day version of everyone. I think the “stop” scene symbolized her stopping her negative thoughts and the scene that follows shows her that all the stuff she missed, Derpy, the Cake Twins, Rainbow and AJ, etc, are all still there! They never left! But while time has passed and things wont be the same as they were before Twilight learned to fly, she still has all her old friends and her new friends to help her get through all the new challenges that she may encounter.

Really like this song as I've always been a fan of the other songs you've made as well as 1985.
