Agreed. She's probs the hardest penultimate I've fought next to remake Dark Fawful. Both are very hard. She's quick with her attacks and just simply punishes you with a devastating amount, vs Dark Fawful remake where he's not as punishing until you hit his second phase. Both of their second phases are what catches you as their attack increases by a good amount and for princess Shroob she's way quicker

Yeah for real, I remember when I battled her when I was younger, I couldn't beat her (highly underleveled tho). After a lot of tries I was able to perfectly dodge her attacks but when I was eventually getting hit, I was beginning to stress and just died

@@NOTRTGAME The Shrowser fight feels more like a mini-game than an actual battle since it doesn’t follow the game’s typical battle structure. You parry Shrowser’s flames until the meter on the top screen is depleted.

I remember playing this game in college. I loved the surprise twist of Princess Shroob not being the actual leader. I kind of knew something was wrong when Toadbert started begging you not to assemble the star and Baby Luigi didn't like the "Cobalt Star Sprite", though. This was a fun battle, though. I had more trouble with Elder Shrooboid than I did with her for some reason

This theme is permanently stuck in my head because my DS was faulty and it always crashed randomly during the Elder Princess Shroob fight... and there's no save between them, so I did this battle against the Younger one over, and over, and over and over again, and never beat the whole game. 8 years later I did it with a different DS :D. Then went back to fight Younger Princess Shroob again

It's the weirdest thing... I've seen this track referred to as "The Overture for the End" and "Overture to the End". Meanwhile, according to the Mario Wiki, as part of the "Mario & Luigi RPG: Sound Selection" CD, this track is called 最後への序曲 which the Mario Wiki decided to translate to "Conclusion's Overture". ...Yeah, it's no wonder people just call it "Princess Shroob Battle". :/

I remember doing this fight VERY underleveled because i was lazy and didn't wanna fight early in the game and 10 copy flowers was basically all i had so this took soooo long and i used EVERYTHING on the first shroob princess and little old me was devastated when i saw a second, stronger one. So yeah i got absolutely destroyed. So i restarted the game and fought everything i saw and beat the first one with ease but the second one took me 30 minutes and at least 40 1-ups to finally finish the game

Tha fact I remember the exact location and ambience from the time I deafeated Princess Shroob and her older sister after all these years...

Am I the only one who gets reminded of The 13th Struggle from Kingdom Hearts when I listen to this. Some things are definitely different but I can’t help but think they’re similar in some ways

That's a fair stance in all honesty, Elder barely gets any screen-time so we get to actually witness Younger's villainy throughout the story (disguising herself as Peach, tricking the Bros into thinking she fed Peach to Petey Piranha, etc.), it's kind of a shame that Elder was basically reserved for the sake of a plot twist as we are at least shown that she cares about Younger by expressing her desire to avenge her, hinting they must have had a good relationship and I wish we got to see that in some capacity.

@@PeterGargan also, younger is even better than her big sis when it comes to her writing; younger princess Shroob is a morally gray character, she respected her people and wanted the best for them, that's why she never attacks them herself, not even when she's angry, she also fought Mario and Luigi alone without help at all, because she wants to protect her people alone, that's also why she wanted to seal far away her big sis in the cobalt star, because her sis is a pathetic leader who only knows how to destroy (watch her battle, elder even kills the Shroobs that are helping her in the battle) and she only cares about her little sister, but ironically, this is exactly what makes the younger hate elder that much.

@@Rocky-brilliant she was the first shroob we could understand aswell. For most of the game the Shroobs seemed dangerous as we couldn't understand them. They were completely alien even in their language so couldn't be reasoned with. What they are doing is evil (taking over and draining toads of their life energy) they are only out for themselves as their home is gone

I’ve never been able to play video games a lot, so I’ve had to watch videos on them, but of all Mario and Luigi games, this is the one I’ve resisted watching because I wanted to see why Nintendo never made a remake.

@@ultrahammerdude2 Technically yes, but I think it was only more damage ? I'm not sure. I don't remember it being her doing crazy stuff like she would in the remakes. But iirc the OG BIS bosses also had pseudo rage modes. When I play I can tell when they are at low HP because they start attacking more often by turn, or maybe that's because I'm too slow.

@@typhlocube9359 the "low health, more attacks" phase has always been part of the series since the OG Superstar Saga, but with Younger Princess Shroob they first implemented the rage phase with buffs for the boss and visual effects. Then they made this rage phase a common thing in the 3DS games.

not complete without the constant sound of the copy flower

"Man, f*ck this fight, especially. You wanna know how long this fight took? 31 MINUTES. And, I know, you must be thinking it's really annoying that I keep bringing up how long the boss fights take me, but it's to illustrate what my *_SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS_* were like. Most of these bosses took me a number of times to beat, and some of my attempts were really close, so imagine having to do it all over again. And I know what you're gonna say, 'Oh, just use the Copy Flower, dumbass'; well, I didn't really find out about the usefulness of the Copy Flower until the final boss because the first few Bros. Items kinda sucked and I hardly ever used them against regular enemies. But even then, it's not like it would've been super useful if I have a 3/4 chance of f*cking up an input with something that I have a limited quantity of. Granted, at this point, I had a bunch of them because I wasn't using them, but the only way you'll be able to keep more Bros. Items is if you get the Ulti-Free Badge from Fawful, which costs *_90 BEANS!_* And you don't even get *_EXPERIENCE_* for it! Like, you realize there's one more fight, right? One where I could use the stat boost because *_ELDER PRINCESS SHROOB_* has *_3,500 HP. IN PHASE 1._* That's 500 more HP than her sister, as well as her *_SECOND FORM,_* which you don't get to heal for; you beat Phase One, you go straight into Phase Two, meaning that all together, she has around *_6,500 HP._* And you know how I *_KNOW_* the developers thought this was way too much, too? In the European & Japanese versions of the game, she has *_3,800 HP TOTAL._* Only 300 HP more than her American first phase, which - by the way - is almost *_DOUBLE THE HP_* of the non-American versions! And honestly? Thank god for the Mix Flower. Because otherwise, I don't know how they expected you to beat her second phase. You have to damage her, the same as every other enemy, right? But in order to do that, you have to deactivate her crown by damaging it. Okay, that's fine. But in order to even be able to *_REACH_* the crown, you have to take out her tentacles. Both the crown AND the tentacles each have their own HP by the way, the tentacles having 400 HP - more than *_ANY REGULAR ENEMY IN THE GAME_* - and the crown having 200 HP, the same amount as a Shroob Rex, the regular enemy with the most HP. Also, the crown and tentacles come back after 3 turns, so f*ck you." -Charriii5 (April 30th, 2021)

Yeah, it seems like Toby has taken a lot of inspiration from Mario games, like in Chapter 1 of Deltarune, there’s a song called “You can always come home”. Which is what Koops’ father says to his son when he’s going to continue his adventure with Mario. _Spoilers for Undertale and SPM below:_ Super Paper Mario where you use the Pure Hearts to defeat Super Dimentio. It’s like when the human souls appear to help you defeat Flowey. Both heart shaped objects that appear to help you fight when all hope seems lost. And some of the characters, too. Mimi and Muffet - Both Spiders, both want money (Rubees, Gold) Pigtails and dresses. (Yes, there are a lot of characters who have those two things in their designs, I just thought it was an interesting coincidence) Francis and Alphys - Both nerdy, both have a love for anime, both have robots (Meowbombs, Meowmaids, Alphys has Mettaton, Mettaton EX, and Mettaton NEO.) Count Bleck and Asgore - Portrayed as the game’s main villains, both lost their loves. Dimentio and Flowey: - Both turned out to be the true villains, and both betrayed the person who was portrayed as the main villain.

This quality composer?!" I'll probably never touch Kingdom Hearts, but not because it's even close to bad, moreso because it's probably not my kinda thing.

The story is being captured and the younger sister had to do all the work for her because she was a terrible leader, younger princess shroob was clever, cunning, sadistic and megalomanic, she was the perfect Villain for the Game and that plot twist led her to be one of the biggest wastes of Villain I've ever seen

@@accuratememin Yeah, Younger Princess Shroob had some of the most punishing attacks in the game, a shorter fight but one hell of a battle where bros item management was vital, do you use copy flowers to break her shield or do you save them to hit her when she's open to attack for real?. Elder's first phase is tedious but not as strong and can be cheesed with copy flowers easily, and phase two is just a matter of spamming mix flowers until all of her tentacles are taken out, and has much more predictable attacks.

@@MadWeegee yeah, not to mention it requires quite a bit of grinding either way to fit every bro let alone one with Ulti-frees. It's an insanely broken item that makes me happy we went back to BP for the rest of the series. (And really makes me wish we got a PIT remake just to have that fixed...but we're never, ever gonna get that now.)

Good Christ I hate the First Princess' poison shot attack. You know, the on that just constantly hits you with toxic balls that you have like a split second to react to? The one that goes on for 30 seconds? Yeah, fuck that one

Yes. I hated it. Always died to it, ALWAYS.

I can't remember exactly how many times my brother and I tried to beat her the first time. But it was a lot.
