I wanted it at first, but I thought the demo was kinda boring. It looks good, but it's a bit too simple for my taste.

I just finished this game recently and took it for what it is, a jolly single player magical girl game with different styles of gameplay. Sometimes you have to allow yourself to be a kid again and give into the jolly nature without a heavy narrative or even difficult combat.

That's totally a mindset that you have to put yourself in when reviewing games like this, they're made for a younger crowd, but there's a ton of discovery in the experience for all ages.

@@NoisyPixelNewsI have a lot of respect for reviewers, the balancing act is harder than people think. Assassins creed is a prime example. Do you review it with the knowledge that you've already played a million of them and they've become the same rinse and repeat open world or do you try to put yourself in a mindset of it being its own game as if its someone's first time playing it? The result is the same either way, reviewers just get ridiculed for the number they put at the end of it 😂

This game was made with Unreal Engine, and Unreal Engine tends to be unoptimized sometimes. Almost every game Good Feel has developed was made with Unreal Engine

I think the developers went for an ultra casual audience more than usual with mario games. I could see kids loving this game because the lack of depth might actually become a plus for younger players as to not overwhelm them with a billion things to unlock and do. But for an adult it seems like a hard sell, it's a shame it looks very cute and the costumes are more original than what usually Nintendo serves us.

Hey thanks for the insight. Not to be pedantic but I think it’s important: lack of depth is always a bad thing, either for kids or adults. What you mean is low complexity, which are somewhat related as it’s easier for a game dev to provide low complexity if there’s also low depth. But even then there’s no excuse for it, low depth is a bad thing.

@@sergisubirats7791 yes and no. It's a fact that a lot of features can be lost on kids because they don't care as much. I'm not saying games for kids have to be simple and boring. Aw man, that's what I feared. The style and concept is so cool though! Normally I'd probably wait for a sale, but since this is a first-party Nintendo game that's obviously never going to happen. Bummer.

The lead-ins to this review were gearing my expectations up for a particularly harsh critique, but I agree wholeheartedly with both the score and the rationale and I say this as someone who has wanted a new Peach game for longer than I'd care to admit. Spot on with just about everything, though I'd maybe argue that the rehearsal stages and boss challenges are the game's attempt at rewarding skillful engagement with the mechanics. Still, it's clear at the end of the day that this is more an action platformer for young kids than a bone aimed at longtime Peach fans like myself, whatever that would even look like, and honestly I'm fine with that.

Is the frame rate frequently terrible or was this just a slightly rough video render? I mean no disrespect, I know video production is time consuming and rendering takes forever. I just feel like the performance here looks especially rough, even outside of the stage transitions.

Funny, with such a title I would have expected like 5/10. I mean, I really enjoyed my time with the game myself, but it IS a game I would rate between 7.5 and 8.5 (not less no more), so the score is totally fair. Still I find funny you guys gave that score with a title of the review like that.
