25 years ago ago, Panorama reporter Martin Bashir secured his global scoop interview with Princess Diana. Now, a new team fronted by journalist John Ware has carried out its own four-month investigation, with exclusive interviews and revelations from internal BBC documents.
This is the inside story of how Martin Bashir obtained his career-defining interview, and how the BBC responded when it discovered he had faked bank statements and shown them to Diana's brother, Earl Spencer. This is a documentary about Princess Diana, her brother and the questions about the the scandal surrounding Martin Bashir's now infamous interview that won't go away.
Princess Diana will always be the most beloved Princess of all time. The fact that she died 25 years ago but yet still trending shows she was indeed a real princess. Gone but will never be forgotten. She was a breath of fresh air, a strong woman, loving mother and champion of humanitarian causes and the world loved her just for being herself. SHE WAS THE REAL JEWEL IN THE CROWN.

Russian billioneirs lie to you Brits thousand times, and you don't mind, money doesn't smell...dies it?.... It's all fine and dandy. No doubt that interview of Diana broushed counter direction many potentates and their intententions with its naked truth. That's why 25 years since, you are so keen on "finding the truth" about this fateful interview. Yes, Bashir was wrong to sly his way into the interview, but it's a much lesser evil than what is going on in "the establishment" and what was done to person Diana Spencer by that establishment.

Diana, because she was in the position of The Princess of Wales, she made enormous contributions to how AIDS was viewed and educated people on it so that they could not catch it from touching someone. She changed the perception of how people looked at the homeless. All these topics and issues existed, but the perception was very different in HOW they were looked upon. Let go of your arrogance, and you might become open to actually learning something. Then you may have something of value to contribute!

Plenty of journalists scam their way into interviews. I'm not saying it is morally okay, but it does NOT change what she said and THAT is what is important. The Royal Family has been trying to figure out how to get rid of this interview for years because it tells the truth and they want Charles to start his reign with a clean slate and want Diana forgotten and Camilla's reputation covered up.

No it wasn't authentic. She had set out to stab not only Charles but the entire Royal Family in the back because she was full of vengeance. That was her nature. Even if you are unhappy in a marriage you don't try to bring your husbands entire family down. Also what about the effect of this interview on her sons. Charles is their father and the Royal Family are their family. Anyway several of Diana's staff including her Private Secretary resigned the day after this interview aired. They had finally had enough. By the way Diana had screened every question before the interview and had rehearsed all of her answers.

@@marigold6920 I am quite sure if you were "tricked" into a marriage with a husband in love with someone else you have literally nothing in common with and then completely dismissed because you are preferred by the public, so you are undermined and judged for your every move would put you on the edge. I can see why as she evolved from desperately trying to get Prince Charles to love her, to giving up on that never happening and trying to find someone who would love her while he carried on with Camilla, and continuing to stay married to finally feeling the anger at the betrayal and her life being hell in such a miserable marriage. Diana never ever criticized the Queen or The Duke of Edinburgh. She stayed committed to the Crown and the monarchy since it was the future of her sons. Who she did criticize and stand up to head-on was who she called the Palace "grey coats". GOOD FOR HER!! When you are under the pressure she was under and being deceived the way she was, you would be desperate in wanting your story told. Bashir should be in jail. He has a direct hand that led to her death. Think of how if he hadn't played on her vulnerability and paranoia at the time, the interview never would have happened she and Charles may have made some "arrangement" to co-exist in their marriage, and Harry would e a different person and on a better path. So if you are going to blame the victim in this for her own death, come up with better contributions than " Diana had screened every question before the interview and had rehearsed all of her answers" as though that is a reason for someone to die......

Riveting yes, very much a story that needed to be told, but no big deal in the scheme of our lives. Why is it being buried? Sharing the family dirty laundry with the public is against royal protocol. The BBC Panorama interview was an act of disloyalty to the monarchy. The interview was intended to hurt and undermine Charles. Diana's reputation was tarnished by the tabloid reports of her affairs. The tabloids labeled Diana a home wrecker. She was angry at Charles and wanted to destroy Charles's reputation. In 1994 Charles publicly confessed his marriage was irretrievably broken down by 1986 and that's when he renewed his intimate relationship with Camilla in 1986. Charles was responding to the 1993 Camillagate scandal. James Hewitt's first book about his affair with Diana was published in 1994. Diana and her lovers usually denied their affairs. She couldn't deny her affair with Hewitt after his book was published. Charles's confession and Hewitt's book added credibility to the tabloid reports of Diana's affairs. Diana had very little privacy because the paparazzi hung out around Kensington palace 24 hours a day and reported on her affairs. Charles and Diana informally separated in 1986. They were officially separated in 1992. Why blame Camilla in 1995? I believe Diana was being defensive and blamed Camilla to divert attention away from her affairs. Diana wanted public support and sympathy. The interview is very biased and one-sided. Diana said what she wanted people to believe and it wasn't fully truthful.

So many want to come down on Harry for getting out but can you blame him? There’s prerequisites around every corner for anything pertaining to any type of life normalcy. You’re born into a family that is referred to as the “institution” for goodness sakes. Every word and step you take is monitored and analyzed. I don’t put one ounce of blame on Harry for escaping and I would go so far to say that he knew Markle was his way out but what people need to remember is he’s still the kind hearted philanthropist his mother raised and no one can take that away and he’s still following through with his most dear charities. It’s as if no one escapes this life without an attempt at submission to their ways and rules but then without all that there wouldn’t be a monarchy would there? It’s becoming less and less necessary and more of just a London circus to visit when traveling. Think about it.

The thing with Diana, and as far as I'm aware it has never been confirmed, but if she had the rumored affair with former England Rugby Captain Will Carling, which may have led to the break of his marriage to his ex-wife Julia. If there is any truth in it then I'd lose all or any sympathy that I may have had for the late Princess. It just gets me that a person, who had been cheated on by her husband and went through all the misery that it brought on her, then pretty much goes on TV and conducts an interview where it's clear she's attempting to illicit sympathy would put another woman through the same thing. Again though, I'm not saying it necessarily is true but if it was I feel it puts her in a more damning light.

Diana caused Will Carling's divorce. She tried to break up Oliver Hoare's marriage. Her bodyguard Barry Mannakee was married. Dodi was engaged to Kelly Fisher when Diana became involved with him. Diana knowingly hurt other women. Diana was the adulterous other woman in their marriages/relationships. In the Peter Settelen video called Diana Revealed, Diana admitted Charles was faithful until 1986. Camilla was very good friends with Stuart Higgins (former The Sun editor) in the 80s, he spoke to her once a week from 1982 (the year William was born) to 1992 (she only stopped after C&D separation). Well known and widely reported at the time that she leaked to him everything Charles said to her about Diana. Camilla is the villain, she needed to rehabilitate her image that made her dangerous because of the connections that she forged within the British press. If memory serves, Diana begged Charles for refuge on the Althorp Estate, but he refused. Everyone knew the marriage would be a disaster, arranged out of desperation when the hunt for a willing and suitable broodmare proved fruitless - no one wanted to marry Charles! When Diana's sister turned him down, the palace turned once again to Diana's parents, they had a teenage daughter. It didn't take long for the extremely shy Diana to agree to marry a man she'd only met a handful of times - the promise of a fairytale life as the Princess of Wales followed by the Queen of England appealed to her romantic self.

Charles S agreed but he could not let her have the house she had orignally wanted as someone else was living in it and it was also too near to the perimeter walls. Over the years, Camilla did intimate to him that she thought Diana was either half-witted or quite mad. He said he felt sorry for Diana, adding: "The fact is that if Camilla had been a child on the beach, she would have knocked other children's sand castles down. She is a wrecker at heart. How dirty it was that Charles thought he had the right to come out with the truth about what Diana was paranoid about. Doing that he caused Camilla’s husband to go ahead and divorce her and the Queen made him and Diana divorce. I don’t think Diana would have been able to move forward to marry whoever she wanted because she was the mother of future kings. An heir and a spare. Camilla, because Diana died now sits on the throne Diana should be on. It’s something how she said she wouldn’t be Queen. She knew. It is a role description, differentiating a king’s wife from a queen regnant such as Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth wished that Camilla be queen consort, rather than Princess Consort as had been previously announced. A Queen consort’s title is Her Majesty The Queen (or informally HM Queen (name). So in calling our new queen Her Majesty The Queen (or informally, HM Queen Camilla), Elizabeth’s wishes have been precisely followed.

Many believe the title only changed when the dying queen struck a deal with Charles to protect the disgraced Andrew. Why do you think Andrew is still in Royal Lodge and not Frogmore cottage as your king mandated back in the spring? Charles tried to boot him, but Andrew had the leverage. If Andrew got booted from the Lodge, he said he would write a tell all book. Which would mean Camilla would have to revert to princess consort.

@@peachygal4153 the statement they released was that it was their "intention" that she be known as princess consort. (They didn't say anything about the reason.) But the announcement had no force of law, and "intentions" can change. Indeed, there is no legal nor historical precedent for the title of princess consort. By law, the wife of the King is The Queen. It would take a literal act of Parliament to change it, and the agreement of all 14 realms would be required as well. The late queen had absolutely no power to mandate titles for a future king's wife. Thus, there did not need to be any agreement with Charles and Andrew, because by law, Camilla could not "revert to princess consort". Barring action by Parliament, it was inevitable that Camilla would one day become Queen from the moment Charles slipped the ring on her finger.

Are you serious? People are bashing him because he falsified documents that got him into Diana's circle, and ultimately to Princess Diana herself. He lied about the government spying on her, lied about her head of security stating that he was also spying and selling info about Diana, lied to her brother about the same things and evidently this resulted in the Princess' increased anxiety and furthered her fears about the monarchy and their involvement in her ultimate demise . So yes he ABSOLUTELY deserved to be bashed by society.( In my opinion, he got off way too easy ! ) Despite the fact that she desperately needed to tell the world the real truth behind her struggles, he still should have been charged with the crimes he committed against Diana, her family and her security team. He betrayed her the same way many people in her life had already done so. Although the interview was therapeutic for the Princess, Bashier used her weakness and vulnerability to further his career, and despite the pain he caused Diana and her family he never took a smidge of responsibility for his actions.

She was murdered ,it wasn't just about charles and camillia wanting her out of the way to marry ,but the landmines she bought to the attention of the public was owned by the crown and government wasn't happy about the light it shed. Throw in the mix that these two couldnt marry had she still been walking around as the divorcee wife, they wouldn't of been able to establish camillia's role in the royal family and putting her on the throne. Plus her dating an ethnic was not going down well with the Windsor or Parliament. Now two times the family refused autopsy and Henri Paul was set up. All cctv leading to the tunnel switched of at the time of the crash. 3 hrs to get to hospital that was t minutes away? Reports of a huge flash under the tunnel before the crash. Her inquest was years after when it should of been within months. I could go on but trust me there is lot to this . even her writing fearing about the plan they had to kill her ,was dismissed. This is the biggest cover up.

What’s so sad is she was so young when she married charles and she truly did love him. He didn’t love her. He loved someone else. He knew better she didn’t. She was fooled into thinking she was going to live happily ever after. It’s really sad that they forced people to marry certain types of partners because that’s what royals did. She never deserved anything that happened to her and I was so happy when she got away. What is so sad is when she was finally happy she died. I applaud Harry for walking away. Diana's death was no accident. I believe in a coincidence. But not one after the other, the amount of "coincidences" that took place the night she died is ridiculous. From them lying the speed camera wasn't working that night, proved wrong 10 days later, to all the cameras happening to be down in the tunnel, to the hrs it took even with ambulance having to stop to get to hospital 5 mins away, to Henri Paul looking perfectly sober & family denied 2nd autopsy, & the secrecy around his blood work. Then there's Camilla divorced 95, Charles 96. The Bashir I view was gained wrongly but she spoke the truth. And possibly signed her death off then. She wasn't psychic but new there was car issues. To think Charles was willing to wait yrs to marry Camilla is not believable. And that in 97 that they would allow mother of heir to thrown, to marry a Muslim son of Egyptian immigrant. And possibly have a half brother or sister of mixed race. It just might have been the final nail. More likely it sped up the inevitable. I don't buy a lot of crazy theorise out there. But in reality a conspiracy theory can just be an alternative to the "official" story. And how often do we get the full truth in the official story, even when there's not glaring holes in that story. That inquest was never going to be in a position to find the truth. To much was hidden & buried in 97, never to come out again. If it was an accident there would've been an inquest within month of Diana returning to UK..As is law for any UK citizen dying abroad. If it was an accident why the secrecy of Henri Paul blood work. Whst would be the problem with a 2nd autopsy that was refused when asked. Why lie the speed camera didn't work if an accident. Only answer is it wasn't so only option available, is it wasn't an accident so she was killed. She said it "I won't go quietly".

  • @Phillips_284

Totally agree. Murder it was. The inquest was just for show and late at that. The letter she sent about her death was truth. If I'm not mistaken, she overheard the plans?. The fact that they married and couldn't wait a year for the queen to be laid to rest for their coronation again speaks volumes. I firmly believe with everything I looked at,she was most definatly murdered. Biggest cover up ever.

Sad thing is I dk how we could 1, ever prove it. 2, Even if we did seeing senior Royals, members of the establishment on trial for anything related. Is just not going to happen. @@glen7318 Yup I get the reply was massive for starters, w/out editing for ages my BPD means struggle with short form. But basically Diana's death was as much an accident as Jeffery Epstein was su*cide. And had there been 1 or 2 coincidences for ex the cameras just happened to all go down for few hrs that night, in tunnel. Or just that Diana had written she was worried something would be done/or Charles & Camilla divorced in the 2 trs before, knowing can't marry with Diana alive, & she happens die nxt Yr. But when there's coincidence after coincidence to this point that's exactly it they're not coincidences. All of the 9 or 10 events that don't add up about that night. And there's been ex MI6 dude come out & stated he believes secret service/ establishment not only could easily do this/& it kept perm quiet. But he believes it's extremely possible. As do other ex members of "establishment"
