I’m pretty sure it’s going to broadway at some point. The musical had a worldpremiere in Denmark earlier this year and it was recieved fantasticly. There were an american production invovled so that it could run in america quickly (the musicals in denmark only get one or two seasons because we don’t have a lot of big stages to perform on)

Seeing this compared to the West End production is just stunning. Diversity, gorgeous set, costuming that just looks right (I don’t know about historical accuracy but it just feels like the film), and acting that truly reflects the status of these characters. Beautiful.

Tuacahn hasn't made a DVD of any of the performances there as far as I know. They're a not for profit organization, so I don't think they'd be able to afford the rights to do that without a generous donation.
This explains why the Prince of Egypt was taken off Netflix. I was originally upset, but now i am SOOOO EXCITED!

Wow...I’m one giant goosebump. The music and story has got to be incredible live. So powerful!
An actual Broadway show is coming soon, but it is not this one. It is a new one developed by Philip LaZebnik, Stephen Schwartz, Danish Fredericia Teater and TheatreWorks in Silicon Valley, and it is currently playing in a new redesigned version at the Danish Royal Theater. It is amazing. But it has some differences from the movie.
Can't wait to hear the songs- the plagues, playing with the big boys, and deliver us. Those where the best songs.
Please, please, please, bring it back!!! Bought 2 tickets to see it but then COVID hit and it's so sad that it's over!... 🙏🙏🙏😥😥😥

@crazy_panda_8713
5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that is the only big ticket missing. Hotep sort of starts chanting the god’s names just before the plagues but otherwise, you won’t be disappointed. The plagues is for me the highlight of the play. In the video you can see it a little but they shoot little fire balls onto the stage to explode. Also, at the end, they actually flood the stage with water to wash away the soldiers. Losing Playing with the Big Boys is a small price to pay for the perfection that is this play.

Sadly no my boys don't get their song, they decided to get rid of Huy for the play yet keep in Hotep [which was a pretty stupid idea in my opinion] and they also made him one of the main villains in the story from what I've read. Agreed. Instead of a proper musical, it definitely falls more into that trope of religious musicals that beat you over the head with the message, have sparse sets, and use more lighting and projection effects to try and make you realize the stage isn't as empty as it is. Which is a shame; if this were stage better, it could be so good! Instead, it feels like a cheap religious musical when the movie was sooo much more.

Even worse is that there are hardly any good Broadway leading roles made for actors with tan or brown skin-tones who aren't black or latino besides the characters in Aladdin. This would have been an excellent opportunity to cast some of them, yet they simplified the racial divide in order to cast white actors instead, and there is no shortage of roles for white actors. Like normally I'd just shake this off as "color-blind casting" but considering the Egyptian royalty is all black they probably sought white actors to make the racial conflict super basic, which is disappointing considering how much that simplifies the conflicts not only from the movie but also from the bible itself.
@scabbz48

Rarietty I completely agree!! It was a missed opportunity to do something different and I think that’s why this show is most likely not gonna make it on Broadway. They tried to do a reading of the Prince of Egypt in New York a few years ago but it got cancelled because the public didn’t like their decision to have a mainly white cast.
