Prince and Larry are both in my District. Larry is a very kind Brother, as are his wife, daughter and son in law. Prince comes and goes quickly, but is very polite to all. It's so nice to see the progress he's made.

This man is the most gorgeous man on earth.No musician can come near him..he truly is in a league of his own!

Personal and spiritual growth. There's not much else more important than that. Prince is awesome. Everyone should be positively inspired by this interview.

Prince is so wise in just saying "no" when the question asked is inappropriate,no explanation,just NO. Good on him-I wish I thought a bit more before answering some questions I have answered in the past.

Very interesting story behind this interview. Prince was invited by the Dutch show, but when he arrived there, he refused to do the interview, because it was a very small studio. He did perform however, and after the 2 songs he was ready to return home, but outside he changed his mind. He liked the atmosphere so much that he decided to do the interview. But because so many people had left already, the audience was relatively small during the interview. 2 weeks after te interview however, the management of Prince urgently informed the dutch show that the performances and interview should not be broadcasted. This was an hard blow for the show, but then something unexpected happened: Prince sent a video tape with another live performance, in which he had copied the dutch tv studio completely and gave a new live performance! Even the audience was edited in it. He had written down with it that the show was allowed to broadcast the interview, only if they broadcast the newly recorded performance with it. And so they did.

I am very happy to see that someone do believe in something even if i don't follow Prince's idea based on his religion and beliefs. This is very good as this person is happy with what he did and keep doing for long time until today which is writing and creating music. At least he believes in something like Socrates said thousands yeras before. Glad to see that this protects him becoming too ignorant through his music without blocking his ego and interests on creating music.

When Prince says that he does not age because he believes that time is a trick, how many of you believe that is the truth to his youthful looks and persona? I have been going on this belief since last year which helps because I can now go out in the sun whenever (without fear that its ageing) and not celebrating my birthday and thinking time is a trick! I hope this works.

Haha! I honestly think he just took care of himself (e.g., maintaining a vegetarian diet, working out, etc.) and having a little melanin also helped. I do love his thoughts on time and birthdays though.

@fatograph Sad but true unfortunately. Whereas back in the day Prince was working with a full pallet when it came to making music. Seems since Larry (and the road he's travelled down) he's been convinced to avoid a whole range of colors, so to speak. Pretty hard to make a pretty picture when you don't have a whole box of crayons to work with.

@Sabianfan - Hi Richard. You are an exceptional witness with a true, loving, & sincere heart towards others. I "KNOW" that about you. I once thought about dressing as a poor person too, as a test, because of what I was experiencing & seeing in the KH that I was attending. If most were like you, & if I had still felt welcomed & loved(the first loving impression remaining), I would have stayed. Instead, I felt harmed & unloved, frowned down on(implied in speech)as a worthless outsider. Bless !

@CmputrBlu Exactly. I'm glad you see the point I was trying to make. Most of these Prince fans as soons as you say soemthing negative they think you have insulted the man's career and doubted his talent. Most have blinders on and won't admit to some of the shifts in his music. I know his hip has given him problems so his ability to dance and perform diminished earlier than it should have, but the musician can still color a picture with the big box of crayolas with the sharpener on the side.

@Sabianfan - In another KH where a JW took me, I was introduced to a JW after the service. That JW was so nice in greeting me until Mary told her that I was a friend of her's & not family. The woman notably became uncomfortable & avoided me. She didn't even say good-bye to me. Wow ! In church is not the place one expects to taste like dirt in someone's mouth. I was already suffering from low self esteem & depression. I didn't need the added trauma. Bless !

@almondjoy667 EXACTLY, I hate that someone who (between the late 70's-mid 90's) had some of the most interesting, and farrr outside the box music and sounds and images EVER could join such a restricting, limiting religion, it's sad, and he wont even perform some of his greatest songs anymore. He's still a great artist today, but he feels like half the artist he was. Makes me sad.

Because Jehovah Witnesses don't believe in reincarnation. However, here's what I find interesting. I truly believe for quite awhile, if not decades he knew some things in terms of when he was going to transcend (my word for die). About two years ago, and mind you in Holland, he said the next time they would meet Holland would have to visit him in Paisley Park. In retrospect, I really took it as he would be gone and they would be visting him there in spirit. I believe it was in December before he died he said he had been having lucid dreams with some of his dead friends. Something else Jehovah Witnesses don't believe is possible. So I believe he may have found some experiences were in conflict with his JW beliefs.

Alot of churches have gone to far past the way of our Lord. I was raised in the Lutheran faith. I live by the ways of the way it was back when I was a child. I do not go by the way they do things now. God & Jesus is love You celebrate holidays you celebrate Jesus's life & you never forget that Jesus died on the cross for all of our sins. God & Jesus love U 4 Ever. Listen to the Lord inside of U he will lead & guide U down the right path, don't follow cults to the twisted truths of their ways.

Great interview. Maybe we all should stop counting time.

Too pity other artists destroyed their own personality taking drugs, becoming addicted on alcohol and drugs even killing themselves. There are far too many examples on artists that became superstars and they could not heal themselves from their passions. Its a matter of belief at something (not to be god or anything) but to believe at least at good will and peace. Prince is totally genius and you get a straight answer not too many fanfar plain short answer.

so darn annoying that whenever I search for Prince -related stuff Harry freeakin' Potter stuff shows up!

@Sparklegrl1 Strangely there ARE a number of intelligent people with religious beliefs: sometimes not even education can cure this phenomenon called religion. I suppose it is some primitive way of making sense of the things we can't understand. (The Neanderthals had religion too.) Not to say that science holds all the answers, but at least we are starting to comprehend more & more about the universe around us & everything can be explained without your Master, Osiris & any other gods or deities.

Um, I'm sorry to quote the Bible on you but: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." -Matthew 7:1 I don't think it's up to us to decide what's going on in a person's heart when it comes to their relationship with God. And it's even worse to publicly call them out just because of how they looked in the past. This interview was 1999 - it's now 2013.

@77musica what gives u the slightest insight if i study the bible or not? Or how much I know about the bible & it's different interpretations? All the things u mention are inventions of man. If we lived on an other planet that had different orbit around its sun we would have adapted to those measures. regarding prophecies, any time in history could fit those prophecies. During any era people thought they witnessed the signs but ended up adapting their religion when realizing nothing happened

Prince is not a follower of God in the traditional sense, his God is Himself, his fleshly disires and hedonistic persuits. Prince and I share a commonality in that we BOTH worship ourselves as Gods within, only we can save ourselves from death and deliver us to eternity. Self Worship is the most true form of idolatry, to self deify one's self is the ultimate faith. Praise me, praise Prince, we are your GODS. OBEY US...

Now...I know this is my opinion but Prince should still be alive today. I say that because he should have gotten that blood transfusion. Larry put that in his Purple mind that being a JW was right for him. I personally don’t think it did because he needed that for his HEALTH and to feel better . Poor Prince he was walking around in pain because of what the JW believed in . It’s not cool at all 😔😢

As for my beliefs, it is in fact true, that I was convinced by the idea of the after life, the all mighty creator. Because emotionally I wanted it all to be true. And possibly if it wasn't for all the information I missed out on as JW i would still think there is a god. Knowledge is what sets the mind free, not hearsay...

@DoveNiki Prince has always believed in god, the B-side of purple rain was called god. He became a jehovah witness in 1999, but his music began to suck way before that, when he changed his name to the lovesymbol in 1994. Its funny how he thought he was a slave to warners but when he tried to sever his ties with them and changed his name, his song quality and popularity went down the toilet. Even his album artwork became cheap looking. Maybe coke snorting record execs know what theyre doing
