These are very cool, I have a knock off version of this, very handy and small.

Does the mantle give off a chemical trail continuously like after initial ignition, or does it burn off clean after a while. Thinking about smoke alarms in rooms.

After the initial breakin of a minute or two it burns clean

I saw you mentioned that those LPG canisters are expensive and I agree with that. have you ever looked into refilling them with butane canisters from those larger cooking stoves for cheap? i usually can easily get a 4 pack of 227g fuel canisters for 5.99 CAD. On amazon you can find this little adapter to just plug and refill those canisters. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmlosdyeprvfirA.html. not recommended by manufacturers but worth looking into from users that use these types of fuels often.

How fragile are the mantles after use? Will be carrying on motorcycle.

The bad news is they are a little fragile, im not sure it would last a few days in that situation(though they may if packed well and not vibrating around), the good news is theyre cheap so you could take backups for a few bucks.
