The first time I ever saw Primus was at a Rush concert for the Roll The Bones tour and Primus was the opening act. That was the first tkime I had ever heard of the band. That was in the early 1990s. I bet that opening for Rush was like heaven for Les since he is a major league, hard core Rush fan, especially a huge Geddy Lee fan. Claypool often sights Geddy Lee as the most influential bassist in his career. I have since seen Primius cover Rush songs live, like Xanadu and really rocked the song. Musically, it sounded just like Rush, not so much vocally because Les and Geddy have such unique vocal styles to themselves.

Just to clear the air. When Primus first started Les would come on stage and say something along the lines of “Hello we’re Primus and we suck..” and it’s stuck every since. That’s the chant before the show starts. “Primus sucks! Primus sucks!”

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that not only has a music video uploaded the same year that KZread debuted somehow survived not being copyright striked at any point, but also looks this fucking crisp? Like, seriously, take any video uploaded from around that time that has survived this long and it is pretty much guaranteed to look like complete 240p ass with heavy pixilation and/or interlacing, and yet this has somehow persisted looking like something you'd find uploaded today? Guess that's just the power of Primus for ya \m/

That's not how KZread works. It's very rare to get strikes for using copyrighted music. Only a very few majors refuse to have their music posted. What usually happen is, when a song is used in a video, the rightholders just claim it. The video stays up but gets monetized and they get the profit. Here you can see it's claimed as the song appears in the description. It's actually a better strategy from majors to claim old videos with a lot of views and traffic instead of deleting everything and uploading new ones, starting from scratch.

One, two When he was young You'd not find him doing well in school His mind would turn unto the waters Always the focus of adolescent ridicule He has no time for farmer's daughters Alienated from the clique society A lonely boy finds peace in fishing His mother says "John, this is not the way life's supposed to be." "Don't you see the life that you miss?" And he says When I grow up I want to be One of the harvesters of the sea I think before my days are done I want to be a fisherman Now years gone by we find the man who rules the sea He sets out on a dark May morning To bring his catch back to this small community He doesn't see the danger dawning Four hours up, oh the ocean swelled and swelled The fog rolled in it started raining "The starboard bow! Oh my God we're going down!" They do not hear his frantic mayday And he says When I grow up I want to be One of the harvesters of the sea I think before my days are done I want to be a fisherman "I'll live and die a fisherman." Frontman Les Claypool sat down to talk about the new album and ended up recalling his 1986 audition for the thrash metal giants Metallica. Les Claypool and Kirk Hammett were friends in high school so when Metallica’s legendary bassist Cliff Burton passed on, of course Kirk contacted his friend from school who was a bass player. Les recounts the experience in his latest interview with Rolling Stone: “I just thought it was my buddy Kirk’s band. I wasn’t really following metal; for me, metal was the old Judas Priest and Scorpions records we used to listen to at high school. So when I went in and there was this kind of air of royalty to these guys from their caretakers, it was a little strange. It made me realize, ‘Maybe this is a bigger thing than I thought’. It was filmed in the San Francisco Bay Area. Which makes sense since they were based out of there and at the time of the filming didn't have a ton of disposable cash to travel very far. If you look carefully, Kirk Hammett is in the video. Doubt he would have traveled very far for a cameo in a low budget video.

It has a fun catchy bass, but it's still heavy. Kinda reminds me of all the 90's Nickelodeon cartoons. Ugh, I wish I was more eloquent to explain.

I think the thing that I always found interesting or at least, from their videos, and the way they play, is that they don't seem like people who would normally hang out together. Jerry is probably the perfect song to describe it I guess. The guitar does not go with the bassline in that song other than it's in the same tempo. The bass sounds something jazz, the guitar sounds punk rock, and the drums sound like Danny Carey's and Neil's abandoned lovechild. Put 'em together and you have a song that just sounds oddly disjointed and then at the end it all comes together. This song is somewhat similar in that respect except the bass and guitar go together pretty well in this one.

Ler is a very important part of Primus’ sour sound. He’s also just a flat-out amazing guitarist. The title track “Frizzle Fry” has him doing more conventional soloing at the end in addition to a bunch of excellent riffs, just in case you doubt his ability to lead a song. Primus may have been able to replace their drummer at one point, but they’d be hard-pressed to replace Ler.

When he was young you'd not find him doing well in school, His mind would turn unto the waters. Always the focus of adolescent ridicule, He has no time for farmer's daughters. Alienated from the clique society, A lonely boy finds peace in fishing. His mother says John this is not the way life's supposed to be. Don't you see the life that you are missing? And he says When I grow up I want to be, One of the harvesters of the sea. I think before my days are done, I want to be a fisherman. Now years gone by we find man that rules the sea. He sets out on a dark May morning . To bring his catch back to this small community. He doesn't see the danger dawning. Four hours up, oh the ocean swelled and swelled, The fog rolled in it started raining. The starboard bow. Oh my God we're going down! They do not hear his frantic mayday. And he says When I grow up I want to be, One of the harvesters of the sea. I think before my days are done, I want to be a fisherman. I'll live and die a fisherman. Calling John the fisherman.
