Over a million dead of starvation and disease will do that. That isn't even counting those who expatriated and died in those coffin ships. Some of the ships weren't even seaworthy and went down, but many were practically floating sanitariums. If you die at sea, they chuck you overboard. Many died in quarantine once they made it to port. There is a traffic island near Victoria Bridge in Montreal, Canada with around 6,000 Paddies buried under it. Something like 1 and 3/4 million left and only 600,000 to 800,000 made it. The real kicker? While all of this was going on in Ireland, British landlords continued exporting 85% of Ireland's gross domestic product. It wasn't a famine; it was genocide. And just think, a hundred years later Winston Churchill was damning Joseph Stalin for doing the same shit.

@@nickaschenbecker9882 So it's Churchill's fault something like that happened 25 years before he was born? Even his father was born the year it ended, so you can hardly blame him. You can't pin a countries sins on people who weren't alive at the time, nor consider them hypocrites for calling out someone for doing something their own nation wrongly did. So yes, Churchill damning Stalin was quite valid.
