PRIMITIVE SKILLS; Home collapsed! Duong despaired and searched for the cause

PRIMITIVE SKILLS; Home collapsed ! Duong despaired and searched for the cause
-----------
My sea journey has ended, a very meaningful trip to me, helping me harvest salt, seafood... and discover more interesting things in life around me. But the joy didn't last long, when I returned to the farm and was surprised to see the house that had been with me for so many years collapsed. My emotions right now are hard to describe. There are so many possible causes, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what the cause is. A pile of ruins right in front of my eyes, oh no... It's unbelievable.
Please leave your feedback below in the comments section, I really need your encouragement... Thank you so much.

    I remember when you built that house, and watched all the updates you made. It's so amazing to see your many skills, I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. I am by no means an expert on carpentry or building houses, but I do watch a lot of videos with people building their own homes. One thing I can say is, when they use wood for constructing, they always torch the wood to prevent termite and weather damage, makes the wood last longer. Definitely the part of the wood touching the earth, you must torch that well. Seems like a lot of work, especially when you're building alone. Wishing I could be there to help physically.....your viewers are with you for moral support. Be careful and stay safe 🙏🏽😊

    A house with stone and concrete walls would be a smart choice. You can build the pillars from wood still, but encase them in concrete to prevent termites getting to them. You could use a similar method like how you made the pond walls with woven bamboo to hold it together until it dries. It looks like you have a good amount of flat stones in the nearby hills you can use to build the walls as well! Stay positive Duong, your new house will be even better and stronger!

    @@PrimitiveSkillsnetThe cause is probably because of rain hitting your mud walls and wood parts causing them to become more liquidy and a little rotten and since the roof is made out of purely wet wood (alot more heavier than normal wood) and also your brick walls the wood columns couldn't hold such weight and collapse. Make the columns stronger or make the roof weight less.

  • @COMRADEDAVEYIPPIIIII

    @COMRADEDAVEYIPPIIIII

    4 ай бұрын

    I suggest making the columns out of strong smoked bamboo tied together and filled with concrete so that it can last more long or maybe even a couple decades. Also gather the material of the broken house and recycle them, make the same roof or smoke the old one to get rid of the wetness and also cover them in something light weighted and pretty water proof. This should allow your hut to be very strong.

    In all this terrible situation, it was really a blessing that the house has collapsed when you or your family were not inside! Why not to build a new one with river stone and Roman concrete? And design some sort of a hoist/winch system to lift stones? Just thinking aloud here. In any case, tons of support in whatever you will decide!

    Terracotta tiles sound like a good idea. If fired correctly, they wouldn't absorb water, warp, or rot like wood is subject to. I'm not sure if this is accurate, but his kitchen roof might need to be replaced soon as well. The palms fronds are looking pretty aged and moldy.

Bracing and smoking your structural supports will greatly help. Varnishing the wood will also drive termites away. It's amazing how you persevere in spite of disaster! Though it is unfortunate, this is a challenging opportunity to engineer a stronger home.

    I agree, I think termites & rot weakened the structure, then it got wet and heavy, causing the collapse. I asked AI about traditional methods for protecting against termites and it's suggestions were: 1. Barriers such as stone or metal shielding at the base of the structure 2. Ensure the wooden structure doesn't touch the ground by using stone or masonry for the lower portion of the structure 3. Use woods that naturally resist termites (not sure if you have access to any of these) 4. Preventative maintenance and inspections, ensuring wood is kept dry to prevent rot & infestation 5. Reduce moisture wherever possible 6. Traditional repellents such as Neem Oil, Essential Oils (Eucalyptus, Orange, or Lemon), Camphor, Garlic Oil, Potash or Mud/Lime Plaster. 7. Bait and trap systems (leave some wood nearby to rot and attract termites in the area, then burn it any time an infestation occurs I hope this is helpful!

    18:31 You can use baked clay bricks or adobe clay bricks with straw. Clay can be used to make roof tiles. Also treat wooden parts with resin or tar against termites.
