PRIMITIVE BLACKSMITH | Forging iron pan, Cooking

Hello everyone, my name is Duong.
I am 32 years old.
I live in a poor mountainous area of Vietnam.
From a young age, I had to work hard to help my parents.
Difficult life is always around, I work and learn everything from my grandparents and the old people in the village.
Gradually, I mastered the skills.
5 years ago, I decided to live the challenge.
Determined to learn about the primitive way of life, I chose to live in the wilderness, alone.
Where there's no technology and forcing yourself to pass, it feels great!
How about you? Your life is definitely different from mine.
Have fun watching the video!

Nice Wok!! You must have arms of steel all that pounding of metal. Remember fans there is another channel where primitive skills has more videos. It is Hoang Huong. Duong's wife and him are featured. My favorate video among many is where Duong's little daughter is walking inthe garden swinging her sticks and singing a song. So adorable!!!

I have seen all of your videos and look forward to more every week. I tell all my friends here in NYC that there is a guy out in the far North that started with a rock and kept building other tools till he started smithing. And built a stocked pond, uses water power, and everything around him to his advantage. Your work ethic is as inspirational as is your skills are impressive. I watch with my two daughters sometimes. Thank you!

I strongly suggest you season the pan, now that you've made it. Thinly coat it with oil or fat on all the metal surfaces, wipe off any excess, then roast it over the embers of a fire until it stops smoking. Let it cool down, then repeat. Do this at least 12 times (20 would be better), and it should help stop the food from sticking too badly. (Yes I know that seasoning usually recommends 5 or 6 coats to start, but it's better to work up more layers at the start, because fat/oil is not often found in Duong's meals to begin with. That means it's better to spend it on making the pan stick-resistant early on, than having to constantly scrounge up enough fats later on to keep things from sticking, because that actually requires greater amounts.)

For bigger work like your pan, your forge will be much more efficient if you spring a clay arch dome over 1/2 to 2/3 rds of the forge to contain the heat. Then you can load your workpiece and charcoal through the front opening.

An excellent demonstration of the blacksmithing art, but for the "time and money" cost, I would have been inclined to explore several shops with a collection of pots and pans in various metals and bought an entire commercial array of pots and pans that almost everyone could afford. BUT his "wok" like pan looks like it would be perfect for my morning omlet using my gas ring turned down low. The same as my light-thin skillet using an thermostatically turned down (to about 20~30%) electric hot plate. My recipe to start a beautiful day: "Using 2 eggs from a 700gm dozen pack, a small amount of fresh milk so that the eggs blend to the tune of my beating-fork then onto the well buttered pan to slowly cook the generous 0.3inch layer of egg mix, covered with a glass pre-warmed lid to watch it rise to caress the lid to a 2 inch high golden delight sprinkled with a dusting of salt and black pepper. My morning coffee is medium-fine grind, light-roasted "Robusta" coffee grown on the local Atherton Tablelands, (not high enough to grow "Arabica" reliably), cold-dripped overnight to make a 'weak creamy flat white caffiene fix, with a perfect egg breakfast'".

Great video, as always. You might consider using the English word "cabin" or "house" instead of the word "tent" at this point. The word "tent" usually refers to structures that use fabric for the ceiling and walls. Of course, we know what you mean when you say "tent." but what you have built is now much more than a temporary tent. It is now somewhere between a "hut" and a "house." The best terms for that would be "shack" or "cabin" or "cottage." You could refer to your whole farm as a "homestead," your "nursery," or even your "ranch."

Hi from the US 👋👋. I loved this video!! I’ve never seen any type of forging!! It was very interesting! Your farm, animals, plants, your upkeep of your property is excellent. You are a man of many talents. Good luck with your future projects. I will be watching. Your wife works so hard as well. Very impressive to do the gardening and build a toilet. You two should be very proud!! Your children are so cute. I love seeing them from time to time. Stay safe and stay healthy. I hope your back is improving. Take care! 🌺🌺👍👍🌺🌺

If you can extract the oil from the peanuts you could use the oil to fry food in your new pan! I’m excited to see what you cook!

You could also make a play ground for your kids! Or maybe some toys for your kids! Wooden dolls to play with? A little swing for them! Maybe a see-saw they can play on, or a little slide!

It might be a good idea to purchase a hose from the market. That way, you can line the house and have water coming into your kitchen without worrying about the bamboo rotting away over time. It will also make it easier to hide the water line and make your kitchen even higher quality!
