Thank you for this, Joe. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Been creating a while but taking it a bit more seriously this year. This was a great start to learning to price products and the basic economics of a new leather craft business. Cheers, Carolyna

I absolutely agree with the idea that sometimes your skills don't match the "materials plus time" formula. I personally have been doing leather work as a hobby for a couple years and am switching over to making beer money with it. Personally I think everyone has a right to good quality durable things within a reasonable price. Just because I spent 30 hours on something doesn't mean I have the right to charge $700. Especially if it's my first time doing that thing. Not everyone has a lot of money to spend. And not every item is worth top dollar . Not everyone needs to lose their shirt. There's a happy middle in there .

Right on with the learning curve, I am starting to do leather tooling myself and everyone says wow beautiful. But I look at it and comparue it to all you guys showing us beginners how to do it and can see all the miscues. I keep working at it doing small things and give them away to friends who really appreciate something hand made for them.

That’s great Larry, keep up the good work and remember not to be too hard on yourself as you’re learning. Also, be encouraged, all of pieces you give away are building relationships with future clients!

I went several years until I had one made. I know other people that got one right away. I think it’s personal preference and when you’re ready to invest the money.
