Price is Right would have mentioned A/C instead of Power Flow Through Ventilation if it had A/C. They mentioned it with one or two of the Volkswagen Beetles, but not most of them. A/C was a pretty big deal back then. They even mentioned A/C in the Blue Corvette along with the new energy absorbing color keyed bumpers.

@@MEMORYLANE218 I'll subscride if you can find the VINs for those "NEW CARS!" And then run a history. It's not that expensive. I spent three bucks running the VIN on my first car, a 2001 Accord Coupe EX. I traded it in in 2017 with nearly 200k, flaky paint, etc. Got $800 for it. The car went through a couple auction houses, probably got a cosmetic restoration, then wound up with changing hands a couple times in NM and last record shows it's being driven in CO. Of course, it's a Honda and thus pretty bulletproof. That guy who won TWO Mazda 808s, I hope at least one of those was maintained. There are people who would spend a lot of money to get their hands on one and drop a rotary engine in it to make a RX3 clone or a 14B in to make it a clone RX3 restomod.

The way these shows work, you don’t even necessarily get the car they display, but rather you can choose one from the dealer for that value. If you want upgrades/options, you’d pay for them. Actually, as contestants were required to pay income tax on the value of the winnings before collecting their prizes, many people “sold” the car back to the dealer and used the cash to cover taxes on their total prizes.

The Vegas likely went to the scrapyard before 1980, the Novas likely were swapped with bigger engines to became ¼ mile superstars, the Thunderbird was probably used in The Crow before landing in a North Carolina salvage yard, waiting it's day with the crusher, and the Opel....well they're still wondering what was so unique about being equipped with a rear view mirror. 😅 The bugs were squashed and the thing was just too ugly to do anything with but reincarnate it back into the tin metal garbage cans it started out as. The Mustang likely met its match with too many crowds before finding itself around a utility pole, and the Corvette is likely in some old man's garage waiting on sunny Sunday weather.

It wasn't uncommon to walk into a Chevrolet Dealership in the 70s and the Vegas already had rust in the door jambs, I remember one guy, his job was doing paint resprays on brand new Chevrolet Vegas, that's all he did all the time.

Cryin' shame the Vega had such a short life due to serious design flaws. I remember renting a Vega at Atlanta Hartsfield airport back in 1977. Obviously a nearly new car. I thought it really drove, rode, and handled well. Nice driving car but, I also knew those cars were made to fall apart. The 140 engine's problems were supposed to have been fixed for the '76 model year but, the car's reputation was toast by that point.

After talking with them , they were addictor brand boats . But they were won on the price is right showcase . They had very little usage , were like new . Wish I would’ve bought them , the story alone was incredible . I tried to search the episode , but had no luck .

Can't get over that Ford didn't base the Mustang II on the Maverick. They jumped the shark by trying to make a Pinto into a Mustang. I actually remember when the Mustang II was first introduced in 1974. Just awful and the styling was so badly executed. The depreciation of the previous Mustangs suddenly leveled off and the used Mustang market was strong because the Pinto-stang just rubbed Mustang buyers the wrong way. The Fox-body Mustangs finally saved the marque.

@@woozleboy Actually when contestants won the car they were given a voucher for the full retail price (with tax) of the car and in some cases pick the dealer they wanted to get the car from. So the dealer they choose made money on the sale, some may have wanted to upsell additional accessories of course that was at the cost of contestant along with the licensing fees. One other overlooked tidbit was the contestant received a 1099 or equivalent tax document (additional taxable income)at the end of the year and had to pay income tax on the prize value because it was consided income by the IRS and state tax boards. I won't be surprised many sold them just to pay the taxes.

The 73 mustang was the greatest cruising machine ever. But Ford cheapened it so much that most rotted away. I was born in 1961, in my early years, I saw too many great cars rot away from cheap chinese steel. Not a big fan of Mopar but a huge fan of AMC, I recently acquired a 2003 tj. It's old school and completely awesome. It's like owning a 60 year old car that's only like 20 years old. I love it. Old enough that it's old school, young enough that parts are readily available. Best of all worlds.

Does anyone remember the the game show called split second, with Tom Kennedy that featured 5 gm cars including the Corvette, Laguna, vega, Camaro and Monza. I remember 1 contestant played for a week, and finally won it. It seems more GM cars were given away in the 1970s

Vega.. lol My brother bought a 10 year old Vega GT 4 spd to commute back and forth to collage. Despite being 10 years old the car was still like new... as far as appearance. No rust or dents. After a year of commuting the car had burned over 100 qts of oil... he sold it cheap and got a Ford Fairmount. I reckon a lot of folks would love to have that Vega now.

Even back then there were engine builders that offered "steel sleeved" replacement engines for Vegas. They dramatic improved engine reliably and curbed the oil consumption. Ran allot smoother. Also they made great street rods or drag cars. Pull out the 4cyl install a healthy small block and you had something. Back at that time there numerous aftermarket companies that offer kits for the V8 swap made for pretty easy install.

I still have my '73 Nova SS. It's been fully restored with the factory medium green, not that gawdawful yellow.

OMG, that AMC Gremlin X is beautiful, has always been one of my dream cars. Being Gen X I love and miss the cars I grew up seeing. I also love the VW Thing and 2-door Vega wagon
