Prewar Lionel 226E and 2226W Tender: Putting Together Freight Set 193W

Ойын-сауық

Had a little trouble getting this 226E to run in reverse. After a little troubleshooting and a new drum roller, everything runs well. What a great locomotive!

HOORAY! for the 226e, the Lou Gehrig of locos (the 700e being Babe Ruth....) Talk about an Iron Horse! And, as everyone agrees, you gotta love that glowing firebox. I made a little hitch for my 226e so it can pull a Postwar tender and, thus, Postwar cars. LOVE my 226e! ❤🍻 Nice job, Dave, on keeping yours running strong.💪

Just restored one of these locomotives. Amazing looking loco and a great runner. Didnt have its original tender so I had to make it one.

I always enjoy your layout and collection. Crane cars are great. I had a lot of fun as a kid raising and lowering the hook and boom while lifting cars onto the track (not very successfully).

Thanks for mentioning all of the trials and tribulations. I have those all the time and now I see it as more normal. I have all of these pieces too. Going to pull it together and run it too. Thx

Dave, you might want to try taking apart the crane and scrubbing the dirty paint with lukewarm, soapy water. I have a 164 log loader that was really filthy, and the paint cleaned up quite well under this treatment. Too time consuming to be a quick fix for a video, but it might be just what that poor crane needs to look a little fresher. I don't think I've ever seen so many different colored E-Unit drums in one place. I wonder how many different colors of plastic there have been, I've seen them in black, red, a mix of black and clear, green, lime green, pale green, and white- but I don't think I knew until the view of your E-Unit drum tray that they also made some in a few shades of grey, and blue! I often will repair a drum with a broken tooth. I save E-Unit drums when I replace a bad one, and if I'm bored I try seeing if I can repair any of them- then keep them on hand for when I next need to replace a drum.
