News snippet from Odessa: a large number of soldiers now recuperating from the front in my hometown of Odessa are threatening to go AWOL or desert if authorities don't demobilize battle-weary servicemen at the end of their rope. Some are saying they will refuse to fight unless deputies in the Rada man up and join them on the front lines. Since it's far more likely that pigs might fly than Rada deputies go into combat, I think there is every chance that we may look forward to an increasing wave of desertions before too long.

As the US is broke they’ll be taking out 30-year bonds at a current rate of 4.713% which comes to just over $86B in interest plus the $61b in capital to repay for a grand total to the US taxpayer of $147.5b. And I’m being generous here, there’s not a hope in hell of paying the US debt back in 30 years so they’ll need to refinance for at least 3 terms bringing the ultimate cost to at least $589b. I won’t even dwell on the borrowing to Ukraine of borrowed money Ponzi scheme as it’s a damn fool idea even without that. Of course, I just read this fool idea got given the nod and I’m not at all surprised.

Your analysis of Mike Johnson's actions are quite deficient. The Speaker sets the agenda of the House, the committee chairs do NOT. The number one issue for the Republican base is the U.S. border. Everything else is secondary and minor in comparison. This not being included in this bill is politically disastrous for Johnson (his career is over, it is just a question of when). It is VERY clear to everyone in U.S. politics that Johnson is being blackmailed because he could have said we'll do the border and Ukraine, but he didn't. This is a 100% Democrat agenda.

It just came to mind that the administration recently decided that they will price weapons held in stock at Net Book Value rather than replacement cost as originally stipulated by the pentagon. You have to ask then, how much will $14bn "buy" for Ukraine? I could imagine, given that Net book Values could potentially be very low indeed, that there would be a huge drawdown of weapons and that whatever has been allocated to restock would go nowhere near - in terms of quantity - replacing what would be taken out.
