Did anyone else literally laugh out loud when Varys was behind Dany at the end? It was ridiculous enough that he'd already made it to Dorne... but he made it back to Meereen with two fleets in the same episode?

This is the biggest "joke" that people can have about that TV show, bravo hahah, how original. One episode doesn't happen in one day moroni, all the plotlines do not go with the same speed

+Asilentio All these people complaining are idiots. The last two episodes where the two best in the series. It is unrealistic for people to expect every characters entire plot line shown. The show would be 3 hours an episode and every actor/actress would need to be paid as a main actor.

Q&A: How the fuck is it possible that thousand years old houses like the Starks, Tullys, Tyrells, Baratheons, Boltons or Targaryens become extinct if you just kill like 4 to 6 people? These families survived for so long, there need to be some family branches or distand relatives.

back then you need permission from your lord to get married and lord wants the write match up, which might never happen. its not a great reason but its a plot hole for both book and show i guess

Not really. Most houses are way bigger in the books. Doran has two more kids, Margaery has two more brothers and so on. The Starks would've been quite a big house, too. But with Brandon dying before his time and Benjen joining the watch, Ned is the only one to carry on the name. And he did a damn fine job, if only all his kids weren't this suicidal XD

It's very simplified in the show where they cut so many characters from the story. in the story there are hundreds of Lannisters roaming around and Willas has two older brothers one running Highgarden in his farthers absense and one is chosen to take over the Florents(Stannis wife is a Florent and her family supports him) lordships. but it's a great point that succesion can get very confusing quickly, in the Vale Harry the heir is seen to have the best claim should Lord Robyn die childless, but it's messy. One thing keeping a lid on the number of children from each house is that every male child should have lands of his own, in the book Highgarden asks to have Loras instated in the kingsguard and they are relieved that they don't need to find another castle for him to rule. In the books Ramsay makes way for his own succesion by killing trueborn Boltons so he would become lord of the dreadford, and Roose allows this for some odd reason. And the ladies are all married into other families of cause so their children would be given other family names. I certainly don't think it's a plothole in the books, i think it's a plot point that as soon as a lord dies without living children, mayhem erupts in the feudal system. It's sort of the same in the show, but i would call it a plot hole that no confution have errupted from the death of the Martells and the Boltons. You can say that Jon Snow and Sansa had all the lords of the Vale and North in the feast hall and that turned it into a kingsmood, but in Dorne Doran was just murdered and we have seen no other lords support the sandsnakes nor opose Doran. Cersei usurped power because she killed everyone of note in the city, i wonder who attended her coronation, Freys, Captains from Jamies army, is she selling season tickes for her new court? It will take some time for others to mount a meaningful oposition to her. But how loyal are her soldiers?

@TheThoerlChannel To add to that, Baratheons have Edric Storm and 2 cadet houses. Arryns have a lesser bloodline from Gulltown, Harrold the Heir and they too used to have more relatives, but the Mad King and Robert's Rebellion killed off many. I wish the show included more of these characters. If not on screen, just give it a mention and be done with it unless there is need to cast one.

I'll do a Q&A for you all: "Why Cersei ..." - Because they wanted a scene where Cersei sips her wine smugly and sits dressed like Tywin on the Iron throne. "Why is Jon .." - Because they wanted a scene where people shout "King of the north!" "Varys teleportaion..." -Because they wanted a scene were he stands behind Danerys or comes out of the shadows when someone says Fire and Blood. "How could Arya ..." - Because they wanted a scene where Arya slits Freys throat and speaks her line. Mysteries solved.

"Why did Lancel follow the kid then get crippled by one stab to the leg?" - Because they wanted a scene where Lancel is crawling towards the melting candle to build tension then we see his eyes reflect the wildfire as it ignites. They don't care how something happens, as long as it happens. Consistent internal-logic goes out the window.

Lets not forgot the number of important westerlander that cersei killed in the sept-splosion, how does she maintain the loyalties of the army that she is supposedly using to hold kings landing, it should be filled with relatives of those she killed. The show has long abandon the pretense of a larger world, everything that exist in this world exists within the confine of the few important characters and certain tribulations. Logistics, Resource management, and the maintenance of the loyalty of vassals is now only a matter of concern when the writer randomly decide to use it make the good guys struggle seem more real, and certainly isn't a concern for the designated villains who pays their minions with evil septims, and maintains their evil morale.

He lead an army agaisn't the usurpers who took the north, and yes although he wouldve lost that battle if it wasnt for the vale, he still led those men into battle, they think he is ned's son, and sansa will not take up the title of queen, so all they have left is jon. A man who is known for his combat abilities, even ramsay said that, has stark blood, was a commander at the wall, and has seen what lies beyond it. Do you have a better choice for king in the north?

Poopy McSheet The only point he got right was arya's plot being completly unrealistic, everything else is nonsense, the episode is not set in a day so characters being in dorne, and then in daenary's ship is possible, Cercei's proclaimed herself queen of NOTHING, only the crownlands and the lannisters are ruled by her how is that unrealistic? Dorne and the reach are at war with her now, its not like her proclaiming herself queen wasnt met with resistence, they spent the entire episode saying feudalism doesnt work like the show, but jon getting picked to rule over sansa is literally the best example of feudalism. No women would be picked to rule if there is a male option, even if it is a bastard.

He made some decent points, but a few were like WTF?Like why is the Nun who tortured her being tortured not make sense? That is totally in line with Cersei, it's just a random complaint he throws in for no reason.I don't mind actual complaints, but ones like that are kind of just there.

I don't think the time skip was particularly bad. Let us say it takes 6 weeks to travel from meeren to sunspear. Let's also say it took a month from when he left, to when they were beseiged, took over the slavers fleet, met with the ironborn, modified the ships, got the provisions ready and set sail. Let us also say that Varys spent a week in Sunspear getting the Tyrells and Dornes on his side. When he starts his return journey Dany is only a week out. They would meet essentially in the middle where his ships join Dany's.

Ryan I suppose--- but that moment seemed to be indicative of larger plots ahead. He could have simply brought up in a converastion, "Things are going much nicer, Varys! I have dispatched the Red Priestess to speak graetly of our Queen to the people!" --- all in all, it felt kind of pointless in hindsight. His attempts at pacifying Meereen worked for a couple days, before everything erupted in all out war. Besides, it was the Harpies who were the real problem in Meereen... something that a Red Priestess couldn't really fix, as you are unlikely to get rid of your enemies by preaching to them religion of your godliness

He was just a happy go lucky guy whose scheming daughter and mother got most of his immediate family (not including Alerie) murdered by a mad bitch. It really hit me when they show his sad and confused face just before the ignition of the wildfire that he was pretty much the same as poor Tommen, just the pawn in the plots of scheming women.

Felt bad myself, I loved his trip to Bravos, highlight of last season. In a similar bent JRRT wrote about being in WW1 and had more than a few harsh words about men who had never and would not see a battlefield sending others to fight and die. Say what you will about Robert, but if a war showed up he'd be up front like the human wrecking ball he was. Same with various others in GOT. That could in fact be why they are all dead, but Robert and the others understood the true cost and horror of a war. The new Mad Queen? Based off her words and actions so far in the show, she has little to no understanding of it. Most of the new Queens taking over don't and will require others to fight their battles for them. Now will be the time of leaders being more and more insulated from the consequences of their actions.

None of the points you mentioned were valid. 1. You would obviously her suspicious about a little street child running down from the Sept, turning back and looking at you over and over again. 2. Pycell was killed separately because he was kind of aware that Cersei was doing something behind his back. if he is in the Sept and she didn't show up, he would support Margery and confirm cashes of wild fire under it. thus he was killed. he knew Varys's little birds and trusted them. so he agreed to follow. if the Queen's slit comes and tells you about a secret meeting, you would hesitate but go, expert if you are a genius telepath. 3. What Margery deduced was actually what she doubted since season 5. she always knew that Cersei would try anything to vast her down. 4. Cersei wasn't showing any emotion because she lost her humanity and empathy after Tommen dies. remember how she says that her children are the only ones that make her a human? she felt empty. plus, she already knew that Maggy's prophecy is coming true after the death of her 2 children and the arrival of a younger, more beautiful queen. that's why she decided to roast Margery as well. 5. Jon was resseructed by Mel, he knows that only she can help him defeat the walkers. she tells him that he saw the nights king (he never told her about Hardhome and especially nights king). plus, Jon has changed. it is in full character him to banish her instead of executing her. it is both wise and merciful. he regrets killing his killers. 6. what's wrong with her wanting her brother taking the Lord's chambers? they siblings, remember? there is always that love, courtesy and awkwardness while sharing things. something like "you take it. no, no, you should take it". does this appear to be a plot hole? there was no reason for her to tell him except that Ramsay would change his battle plan if he knew, she isn't that intelligent. 7. I can agree with the Daario part. 8. this pay off your analysis was just silly. they will rally behind a bastard deserter because he took up the responsibility of uniting the north and overthrowing a usurper. you do know that winterfell basically belongs to starks and anyone taking it over is a threat? Lyanna's dialogue quite logical and honorable. Mormont is not a minion house. they did contribute 60 soldiers, while most houses didn't. she was trying to put sense into them. it isn't about women. they didn't forget succession rules. they just don't care. they know that Jon is Ned's son. these rules aren't set in stone. Sansa cannot do anything being queen in the north. by the way, did know that Jon didn't become Lord of winterfell?? he is simply king in the north. Sansa owns winterfell. If they make her queen in the north, that would mean they have to trust an outsider (petyr) who once worked for the lannister and sold sansa to the Boltons. better trust an honest, sincere bastard who fought walkers, fought Boltons, avenged red wedding and behaved responsibly, showed humility? 8. Varys was present (with daeberys) there with martell and tyrell army. are they supposed to show every second of the journey? they are speeding things up. the teleportation part is just an indication that they aren't going to show every small plot and journey the book shows. 9. I can agree with the Arya part, partially.

Yeah I also thought preston was too harsh this time. Liked your comment. However, there is no way Varys could arrive from dorne to Slaver's bay and board a ship in time. While we see no journeys and time sometimes fly by monthes in a blink of a scene there are some indications of time. We know that between the scene where the sept was blown to the scene before the end (where cersei sits on the throne) there is only 1 day passing, indicated by the fact the sept is still smoking when jaime arrives. in 1 day varys can no way get to slaver's bay from Dorne. About the sept child, there is still no reason for the child to lead him into the wildfire. It was unnecessary risk

What? 1 day? They had to forge those golden dragon heads for the ships and ready the ships. And do those sails for all those ships with the Targaryen heraldry. Varys didnt travel in one day from Dorne to Slaver's Bay. We dont even know if he even traveled back to Slavers, they could just meet in the sea when the 3 fleets reunited.

At 6:21, when you talk about how Margery's line about how Cersei "does not intend to suffer" the consequences of her actions. I understood Margery's reasoning and how she knows everyone's in danger. Cersei's absent anyway, and does not intend to suffer the consequences of her actions, BECAUSE SHE HAS PLANNED SOMETHING TO ELIMINATE THE PEOPLE WHO CAN PUNISH HER. Like if you walked out of the house without an umbrella, you wouldn't fear the rain, because you had planned to stop the rains from falling. Something like that.

Q&A: Really love your videos, just wanted your opinion on a bastard being raised to king and possibly being a Targaryen and the implications this could have in the GOT story line? How much of this season 6 do you think has been spoilers for the winds of winter/Dream of spring?

  • @GarrisonHat

Feudal succession was also forgotten when a bastard from northern France conquered England, a French lord usurped his cousin's crown just because he got to London first, a bastard duke murdered his legitimate brother and proclaimed himself king of Castile (but who can blame him when that king was Peter THE CRUEL?), when the child of a king's bastard brother and some other noble bastard's descendant slew a king, took the crown, and married the rightful heir... This stuff happens sometimes.

True but notice that the usurper had superior force of arms, and tried to legitimize the claim. Cersei has possibly the most exhausted army in westeros that has resorted to arming barely trained peasants to fill the ranks, literally any other great house could easily take kings landing. While sansa gets passed over for reasons, and ned's trueborn daughter get tossed aside like nothing.

fatima Ibrahim With Cersei, yeah, I can see her not having much support, if any at all. But that Olenna was the Reach's envoy to Dorne doesn't necessarily follow that she replaced her son. She was already ruling the Reach on her son's behalf.

In the case of Ellaria Sand, yeah, she won Dorne with "army diplomacy" even if taking out Areo Hotah was way too easy. Cersei won by right of conquest, but who actually supports with the whole Realm now pissed at her?

Ellaria Sand rule should be as hollow as cersei's, who would support her, most salty dornishmen would hate her for killing Doran, and the most stone dornishmen wouldn't accept a female leader.

I like you a lot Preston but this episode felt more nit-picky than usual. I see Margery's logical fallacy when you spelled it out like that, but honestly the essence of it still makes sense to me. Margery knows Cersei's scheming ways well and she was right to be extremely suspicious from Cersei's absence from such an important event. I guess they should have reworded her lines to not make it sound illogical, but when watching I felt Margery's delivery and acting were so impressive that the "essence" of what she was trying to say made quite enough sense. As for the danger of Lancel being so close to blowing out the fire, that's where it seemed that you totally missed the point (in my humble opinion). Television/film adaptations of such grand written works are difficult in and of itself, and although this scene isn't something from the books, I can still see D&D adding this if GRRM did write this in the books as well. The suspense and reveal of the cache of wildfire would not have been nearly as impactful if we just had random cuts to the wildfire leaking out. I just think there's something terrifying about watching someone have to slowly wait until his imminent and gruesome death by explosion. Ofc we knew Lancel would not have been able to blow it out in time, but knowing that there was at least someone in the city other than Cersei and co. that knew about the plans (although at the last minute) was an interesting bit, and seeing the fear and urgency in his face was great television.

The most natural assumption is that Cercei committed suicide, not that she has engineered a huge explosion when the crossbow and a steel sword are the best that technology has to offer. The idea of fetching Cercei from the Mountain was also ridiculous. I didn't notice that at first viewing. Despite it all, the show was great.

I was going to say that. I think the hunch arose because BOTH Cersei and Tommen were missing. If it was just Cersei I would assume that she is just sitting in the Red Keep waiting for someone to take on the mountain in the narrow corridors. But with both missing I would have the same suspicions as we all know Cersei is a bitter cunt

Preston, thank you for your channel, the only sane place on the internet right now. I guess we are doomed to have mediocre television (or worst) for the end of time, all thanks to dull people like D&D's flock of sheep whose willing to eat up whatever old shit they deem fit to throw their way, and then ask for seconds... I think David Benioff intentionally left that hilarious line in that interview to show us how little fuck they give about the show at this point of time...

Oh, killing the characters that made up an entire plot? Yeah, that's never.... oh wait. The Red Wedding was the same thing. Ned's death was the same thing. Oberyn's death (book accurate) was the same thing. Brienne and biter, Syrio Firel. This story is not a traditional plot. It's bittersweet constantly.

Guys there's no constant timeline. Not in the books and definitely not in the show. I'm not a D&D fan but for anyone complaining, look at it like this: - Varys making his way to Dorne - Arya wanting to go home = Daenerys defeating the masters = Varys & Olenna on their way (off screen) - Arya on her way (off screen) = Varys and Olenna at Dorne sending reinforcements = Daenerys with the Greyjoys - Arya in the Riverlands killing Freys = Tyrell's fleet sailing to Dorne (off screen) = Jaimie heading back to Kingslanding = Daenerys ordering Targaryen sails and a ship on Amazon (off screen) - Varys sailing to Mereen with the Dorne & Tyrell fleet (off screen) = Daenerys getting her Dragon masted ship built and all those Targaryen sails painted (off screen) = Jamie on his way to Kingslanding (off screen) - Varys & the fleet arriving at Mereen, having a short break and making their way to Westeros with Dany and the rest = Jamie arriving at Kingslanding shortly after the sept got blown up

  • @arbenkolaIRR

Dear JilTheReal, your assumptions are arbitrary. I've read the books as well, but the time line of the show in this season was Perabsurdus. Practically fifty percent of what you wrote is happened of screen... So, how anyone can be sure of the events succession? Following this logic, I can say: "Arya went to have fun in Volantis for two months". How can you confute this? Well, you can't; becouse it happened off screen! This is an Reductio Ad Absurdum... Anyway, have a good day. Cheers.

  • @JilTheReal

    @JilTheReal

    8 жыл бұрын

Anderskilled Those actions aren't arbitrary. I know this season's timeline was ridiculous but Arya arriving in the Riverlands confirms that she was on her way there for sometime. The fleet of the Tyrells and Martells being on Dany's side when sailing to Westeros means they had to get there from Westeros somehow and that took some time too. That Jamie was travelling for some time is a logical conclusion to him arriving in Kingslanding and Arya killing the Freys was right after the feast which Jamie just left hence the killing and the arrival in Kingslanding have to be weeks apart at least. And btw according to Analysis (which is a form of mathematics for proving logical operations) proving something by excluding other things or disproving them is a confirmed way of proving soloutions right. In fact you trying to sound smart with one Latin phrase you learned by heart is a Reductio Ad Absurdum. Have a good one.
