Sometimes a coffee goes a long way, especially here in Italy. Don't feel obliged in any way though, best of all would be to come to Tuscany and have one here with me!

A shadow box for all the keys would make an interesting decorative piece. A kind of key rack under glass. 👍👍❤️

Great suggestion.
Leave the beams as rustic as you can. If the rest of the room is going to be a glorious white (my fav decorating colour), the beams will look great in blackened rusticness in contrast. The amount of work you get done always makes my back ACHE. Your work ethic is amazing. The kitchen is going to be utterly fantastic. The fireplace whojockapivvies (as my mum would have called them) are called andirons. The wee annex low rooved room would still make a great pantry and wine cellar plus a place to put small kitchen appliances that are useful but not on a daily basis. Some inexpensive cupboards/shelving/wine racks (Ikea?) would set it up beautifully. You cannot waste space like that just off the kitchen. That would be a travesty. Can’t wait for your next vlog!
Did you consider getting someone with a sandblaster in. I’ve had it done on a house in Garfagnana-not far from you. Sand blasting would be a lot less messy, I think the tar when wet will cause a lot of staining else where
I would suggest you make that small closet a pantry by building a cabinet which is just inserted in the closet. It can have full extending with pull out drawers.

I did this with an awkward space in my kitchen. I had a cabinet maker fit it with 4 pull out shelves. Much more efficient use of the space, even though it is not all being used. Another option is to create a cozy hidey-hole for the children.

Glad everyone agrees. If he wants to be really fancy, put it on wheels so the unused space in the back could be used for long term storage. It would be interesting to try to keep the original door for esthetics.
Sand blasting is the way. So, yea. Check out the Pethericks convent project for their sandblasted kitchen beams. They are still dark, but no longer smoky. Remember, everything that is left charred will migrate the smoke smell to new permeable materials. Do keep that charming little door - clean and wax. But that space might be good for storing patio furniture or tools in the off season. Loving the floor...keep up the good, hard work. 💪🙌

It was the beams!
When you're removing nails; first get a hammer or use a claw with more of a curve, prop the hammer on a piece of wood for more leverage. - I would have a field day with a lot of that scrap metal. That curvy thing would make a nice trellis for a large potted vine. That end table as you call it I'd use as a plant holder. Yup, use that room for a pantry.
The kitchen is going to look fabulous.... maybe the iron bed end could look good on the wall somewhere as decoration ?

I think the same! 😉
Dark beams & crisp white walls would look stunning! Flooring was the perfect choice and the closet is your new pantry with rolling metal racks (Ikea? Easiest).

Wire rack/rolling utility cart, yes (beer in a rack on the bottom, of course)! Hang the patio chairs and table on the wall (as previously suggested). I'm eager to hear Madame's preferences. Where will the paints, brushes and power tools be stored?
Sorry to sound like a woos but you should wear some form of protective eye wear and gloves, accidents up in the villages aren't like in the cities, as I found out a few years ago.
The hanging pot chain would look good in the corner of the kitchen with nice pots or kitchen things hanging from them. The bedhead could work hanging on a wall. Either at the end of a bed like a bedhead or just as an interesting piece of art. I wouldn't do sand blasting. I think the rustic charm of the building makes it. Sand blasting can remove all the rusticness.
The small closet could be used to house a home battery system if you ever decided to add solar panels to the house you would be able to use this storage for the inverter and battery maybe even a heat battery for your hot water

Unfortunately, they're banned in Tuscan villages
Depending on how wide the door is for that space under the stairs, it may be a good area to store the outdoor furniture in during the winter. If not, maybe worth sticking the clothes washer just inside, if you have no other use for the space. Or,...maybe a fun alcove for the kids to have as a hideout! 💕(Robin E.)

That is a good-sized kitchen. That will come up super nice. Just an idea to do a rustic hanging wind chimes decoration with all those keys. That will be very cute.
I would suggest dry ice blasting. It’s being used for removing damage (and the sources of odor) after a fire. Exactly what happened there…

Yes but no one nearby rents the equipment unfortunately..
Make sure to ventilate the room and consider a dehumidifier to get the excess moisture out. You don’t want to create a breading ground for mould. Some fans running and maybe a dehumidifier should work. Don’t add heat. My dad added heat and then he had tons of mould on his plaster walls. Cleaning vinegar 6% helps to kill the spores should you get any more mould. The spade heads look like they could be useful, if you need one. Just need a new wooden handle. A shame you can’t use the little room for proper storage. You could make storage on casters and roll out when needed. In America we have electric water heaters that are short and can be fitted in behind cabinets or other appliances. So the washing machine a caster base could work if the heater was behind it. So that’s my thought.

I've left the doors and windows open for the last 2 days, and it seems to have dried well with no mould so far!
Your kitchen is going to be fabulous! You can never have too much storage space so I would use that extra space for things you only use occasionally.
Thanks so much for another great video. What a massive job you have accomplished. Love the dark beams and the floor. It will be fabulous with white as you described. I loved seeing the "treasures" you found in the little closet. The tiered little table would be great outside with plants on it. The door is a keeper I think even if it gets hung up someplace as a piece of art. Could the doorway be raised in the little closet to make a pantry? Or as someone else suggested build a piece that can be fitted inside that is more shallow so you don't have to walk in? No need to answer but just questions I had. Can't wait to see the real estate you visit. And lastly when you said you were going to the polenta dinner, oh my! I groaned. How I would love to be there for that. Wonder what they serve with it. Xo

It's missing height, but maybe storage for the terrace furniture and stuff...
I believe you can sandblast all the iron stuff from the little room that appears rusted. It will make a huge difference to your 3 gridirons and the night stand which is great as a 2xpotstand.
So pleased about your progress. I have followed this from the start and am humbled by your hard work. Well done. I'm sure your family are suitably proud of your efforts
Love the old bench. Kitchen ceiling, one of those nasty jobs that just has to be done. That room does look amazing though. Had no idea you were 6'4''. Even more impressed with the roof job you accomplished in such tight conditions, hats off. The kids will love the small room for fun and games but storage for the extras is always nice.

The problem is often not my height, but my width...
I’ve seen people with mold on the underside of a roof use dry ice to sand blast. The ice is abrasive but turns to a gas leaving only the junk that was blasted off. No moisture left behind and no sand residue from sand blasting. Don’t know if you can rent equipment for that or hire someone to do it.
@NotUselessYet

No one near here in rural Italy has a dry iceer to rent.
My only comment would be the new walls don't have to be a bright white. You can use a softer colour so they don't look super modern in an older home. A light creamy coffee colour might look good depending on what else you do.

Some power washers can be converted for use as a sand blaster. Amazon has conversion kits. Now sure how well they actually work.
A small pantry would be a good idea. What an amazing job you are doing. Take of what you breathing. Always enjoy your videos from here in Sussex.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You could make a playroom for your boys in the small room with the low ceiling. It would provide an imaginative area for the children where they could be supervised during cooking or while the adults are relaxing in the kitchen. I enjoy watching regularly from my home in Canada . Keep up the amazing work!
All those interesting, random objects could be cleaned and selected ones displayed as "found art" and some of them could even be assembled together in interesting ways, perhaps using a soldering iron, again, as found art objects for any garden area.

All for when I open a museum!
I am inclined to say build a pull out pantry on wheels for the crawl space. Or you could even put a butchers block top on it a rolling bench with storage underneath. Doing this you can still store things in behind in the crawl space also. Convert the existing little rustic door to a sliding barn door as a feature. ( strip it and carbonise it ‘shou sugi ban’ style so it matches the beams) using black iron fittings.
So nice to hear from you on a Sunday! ❤
What a mammoth task you've undertaken there! So much progress already. May I suggest that nice old metal bedframe (headboard) could be cleaned up and used as a decorative piece for the outside of the house.
It is looking so exciting. The cleaning is the pits but the changes are so good.
That floor really does look seamless. I’m still amazed. I don’t know why I ever doubted how fantastic it was going to look.
When I had an inglenook fireplace replastered, the builder applied an undercoat of cow dung to prevent the soot from leaching through the new plaster! It worked.

A lor of work again with the nails and the soot. 😮 the tiny space you could use for cleaning supplies like broom, vacuum cleaner and mob. And maybe a reading nook for the kids? Might be you won't see them again until they grow out of it 😅😅😅
The kitchen is going to be so great! As for little room, another vote for out of season items. I was thing Christmas stuff, but remembered you probably aren't there at Christmas to decorate. Anyway, you don't have to go in to get stuff, that is why you have kids. lol
Really enjoyed this video, as always! Great progress and yes the floor looks spectacular. Also keen to view your property vids. Thank you.
I hope the boss approves of your progress
That single andiron may have been to hold a kettle or pot to keep something warm. This room is looking better every minute, sending my imagination in all directions. It's going to be wonderful, whatever you do with it.
Six foot three. How nice you can stand and change lightbulbs without a ladder. 🤗
I think the kitchen is going to look amazing! I am in love with the floors ❤️. That small room in the kitchen would be great for storage. What an amazing job you have done!
I've been following you for awhile now and I've got to commend you for showing so much hard work and lot's of determination to get this far !!!! I can see your vision now and your kitchen will be amazing !
I love the dark beans with the marks of where they were shaped. The beams in my house were painted white at some point, such a shame.
Wow, a great perspective on just what a great job you did on the floor once old and new were in the same shape, lol, a bit dusty. Looks fantastic
The floors are amazing!!
Great video 👍 It's cleaner every time you have a go,buy a sandblasting attachment for the pressure washer dirt cheap and do a light go over it will loosen bit's but won't destroy the patina on the beam's..
Those pot hanging chains for the fire (45.40) are worth quite a bit ! Don't chuck em !
If you can get an electrical into the cubby space you could put a chest refrigerator or freezer on a drawer system that could slide into that area.
The 2 things with the ball in the end look like legs for an appliance. Maybe an Aga. And with old-time "casters" to help move it. 😊

The water worked really well, and has dried perfectly, the smoked chestnut beams have become pretty impermeable. The Vikings used to smoke their wood before building boats...
I have so enjoyed watching your progress. You have learnt so many new skills along the way.
Such a transformation already. It’s looking great!
It is soooo pretty there. Always happy to see when you post a video.
Big progress, hard work paying off
Every home needs a store cupboard for shoes, jackets, mop, etc 😊
I'm loving the room more and more every day. I see your vision now and am loving it. That cupboard would make an excellent pantry , it would be a nice cool room for storing food etc.
Another great video. I think you should use that small storage room for non-perishables like toilet roll and kitchen roll etc. or maybe even just for the hoover and stuff. Keep it up!
That pew is really cool. I love old pieces like that.
HELLO RAFFI...'THE ALIEN FROM THE TUSCAN HILLS'...I SAY, THE PRESSURE WASHING REALLY DOES IMPROVE THAT ROOM!...I LOVE THESE LONG VIDEOS WITH THE CLASSICAL TIME LAPSES...AND WITH THAT, A WHOLE LOT OF OLD TREASURES THAT ACCOMPANY OLDER HOUSES...A PLACE FOR BROOMS & MOPS IN THAT LITTLE CUBBY HOLE?...ALL THE BEST...🙏
You were right with the floor it really looks great. If you have a bedroom on the other side of the small low room you could incorporate it as storage or somewhere for the children to play in, then the kitchen has another full wall. Regards from South Africa
Glad you've kept the floors. Impressive amount of kitchen space is wonderful! Agree with your beam and ceiling plans. A lot of hard work you've put into this vacation home for your family. I do have one concern, your use of safety glasses. I've had several surgeries to keep my vision and worked in ER 18 yrs. hospital 36yrs. You are a young man with a beautiful family and promising future. Please reconsider using those glasses. Bless you and yours, looking forward to your upcoming videos.

I tried the glasses with the pressure washer, but after 10 seconds, I could see nothing! I need glasses with little windscreen wipers...
Sandblasting all the way. Presasure washing will get you som much moisture in the stone walls it will take months to dry out (unless you put in a drying fan/dehumidifyer)
American antique shops love that stuff.
I would like to say that I was wrong about the floors! They look terrific. 👏👏👏
Yes, loved the vlog. Looking forward to more, has there been any interest in any of the first 3 homes, it's a great way to see what's available, your doing a great job.

You could ask viewers for some ideas as to layouts and design. I follow another channel that did that and they got some very beautifully executed design plans in addition to texted ideas, which appeared helpful.
Any chance of raising the little doorway for a pantry? If not, a play nook for the kiddies? Wire brush the walls after removing the blackened render? Everything is looking amazing!

No, the height of the room is that of the door
why does it look like there was a fire in the area above the beams? its all black soot. I still cant believe you do all this alone for the most part. It is a lot of work. Keep up the great work you always do
In the end, it'd look gorgeous if you put small mosaic tiles in the big cracks between the floor stones. It'd remove the big dips while adding a rustic yet elegant flare!
As usual, great job
instead of sandblasting, try to rent a DRY ICE blaster, it's a much better result, and you don't have the clean sand afterward. but you did a great job on this video.
The fire dog that has a holder on top might be for warming mead. I thought the same abt the bed base wheels. Maybe the corner store cupboard could become a kid’s cave/reading nook. My personal pref on the beams would be to sandblast and wax as the wood colour looks to be rich and fabulous but I don’t hv to live in it so yours and your family’s choice. U cld feasibly put an oven/stove in the centre space with bench space on either side of it so you can utilise the hanging rod to store your pans!
Another brilliant video!

What I was just about to write! Thick carpet and huge cushions or beanbags.
.Thank you for this long video. We find your posts enjoyable. Your kitchen will be beautiful.
Leave the beams, excellent effort 🎉🎉🎉
Having seen places that have been sand blasted and the finished look, I would say definitely sand blast. It will look great.
Epic video chap.
I love what you are doing in the place. Perhaps try using the tripod more as you move the camera around a bit too fast.
You could take off the door of the little cupboard and boxed out to make a recessed open shelving unit deep as you like . Nice storage baskets or whatever.
Well done! Getting rid of those nails in the beams was like expelling a stone from ones shoe (at the end of the hike).
Are you planning on a loft space over some of the beams? RE the space under the stairs I wonder if a water heater could go in there? Maybe a furnace?
I would keep die metal ornate curls. They can be part of a security gate or elbow for a shelf. Also the copper pot.
Amazon has a handheld sandblaster nozzle ypu can hookup to small small compressor (which you alreadyseem to have). Wouldnt you rather vacuum sand up than wet muck. Plus youre gettinng the underlayment of your roof wet at well. And if you manually have to take down the plaster anyway, sandblasting really is the way to go. Just google furniture sand or soda blasting.
Washing the walls this weekend made a big difference to the look. It will give you a cleaner space to work in to finish off now the walls.

watch the end, they really don’t look bad
Really good video! Your work is exhausting to watch, but what a difference. Could the blackened stones be pressure washed and then try to hammer the blackened lime off to see if it will bring you down to cleaner lime that can be filled back in with fresh render? Even pretest the lime before washing stones. The suggestion for sliding shelves is good...bettered if the unit is on casters so you could use remaining space for storage too? Great work on your part!
You could use the two rolers for under a prep bench so you can mve it arround.
I’d use the small room for storing cleaning equipment and supplies.
id put a super deep pull out cabinet maybe two, you can always make the opening bigger to accommodate
Good morning, we have been following your projects for quite some time now and love seeing your old house transform. My husband and i bought a house in italy (and moved here ladt yest from australia) and have been renovating it for some time now and are planning on buying another property next to us, which is an abandoned home that is compromising our house. This place requires extensive renovations new floors removal of all plaster, and to build new levels on the vacant block. We could totally benefit from this type of level you are giving away. Don't get rid of any of the metal pieces or other possible treasures! Let your wife get a good look because she might want to get extremely creative with the bits and bobs - maybe one thing to make would be an art piece showcasing the past/the lives/ The History
You are very hard-working
I think the thing you called a salt sprinkler is for sprinkling flour, when kneading bread, to stop it sticking
Please hang on to the copper items. 😊 the beams are looking good.
I would love it without all the beam, every other one gone would help the aesthetics. Feel more open but with the historic feel. Can you power wash the black stone with some chemicals to help clean it? A degreaser? I am afraid of the smell never going away. The little cubby hole is excellent for storing stuff. Must think up a best plan for it. Most European old places have them. Again, that was hard dirty work. Bless Your Heart.
