Also I like how your straight to the point and don't waste time, you do a great job with explaining it. What would I do without these helpful how-to videos? Also it would be helpful if you mentioned what year, make and model vehicle your working on, but no big deal

Freezing your bearing before install, then freezing hub before install helps a little. Freezing the parts shrink them slightly... Thanks for the vid!!

freeze the bearing and not the hub. it'll make both parts shrink if you freeze both but it'll make only the bearing shrink if you freeze the bearing.

@@electroKrunch , Since the Hub fits inside the Bearing, You do want to freeze both. Just need to let the INSTALLED Bearing warm up 1st. Of course, if you are working in sub freezing garage-outside, this technique is not so good. I would not recommend heating the Knuckle unless Mother nature does it for you.

I think your video supplied some very useful information. I plan to purchase the kit on Amazon as I do not have a press. It and the kit makes more sense. I already own a slide hammer and can identify the lug nut interface for it that some are having a hard time comprehending. What I do think they were trying to say in a crass and rude way, was the video lacked fluidity. It would have been more well received if the what, how, and when were more detailed and laid out in a timeline. I watched other videos and personally replaced wheel bearings many times, so I know what you were trying to say but the video appeared to jump from point to point without any understanding or connectivity between the previous or next segment. Again, thanks for the information and keep at it, just plan out your next video in detail the next time. Best of luck!

However I purchased the wheel hub assembly and ended up putting the whole knuckle on the fire to 400 degrees and the wheel hub assembly in the freezer. The wheel assembly just dropped right in without any effort.

Wow, I actually installed a new bearing today! That Sucker was in there! I had the impact wrench on full force for a solid 4 minutes! There was no way a ratchet was going to work. At first I thought I forgot to take off the retaining clip in the front because it wasn't moving at all. Put some heat on the knuckle and some WD40, waited a few minutes and finally she slowly popped out. I thought my impact wrench was going to burn up, thank God it was a Craftsman! The new one went in with a standard ratchet, much easier! I sanded and cleaned the sleeve with ultra fine wet sand paper and used a small screwdriver to clean out the retaining clip groove so the clip would sit deeper in the channel when reinstalled. Parts were from RockAuto.com.....Bearing: $16, Hub: $20. This video saved me and my family $530. God Bless you! - Scotty.

If you remove the knuckle from the strut and leave it attached to the ball joint, the knuckle should be able to pivot outwards and give you more clearance to use the bearing/hub press tools. I just noticed that on another video and I was impressed. Also, the press tools are commonly available to rent from auto parts stores (for free).

I've done a lot of research and I think everybody has a tip to offer up such as on your vid I was not aware the magnetic side has to be placed towards the abs sensor it makes sense, and on seeing how the bearing was originally installed I would assume it's the case, now on another vid a guy placed the bearing in a freezer and baked his hub for an hour or so after he literally dropped the bearing in the hub and quenched the heat as it may damaged the bearing ,cool trick. I think I could easily complete this installation as I work in a Electrical Transformer repair shop and work on a variety of mechanical repairs.but getting some of these parts off is not like u tube lol .I also had a rotor that was really stubborn but I got it of (with a trick I learned on u tube) after an hour it finally gave away but then these press in bearings can get f*u?k in the process hence the wheel bearing vids lol

You don't need a slide hammer. You just use the Bearing removal/ install tool you bought. If your Circlip is in the front, you should remove the bearing from the outside and install from the inside after installing the new circlip to act as a stopper. My BGS clone used long bolts to press out the Hub.

Question to all, instead of buying or renting tools, why not take the hub and the new bearing to a machine shop and let them press the old out and the new in for you. Probably cost about the same as the tools that you probably never use again. Good job.

So before this video, I saw one that showed how to do this without the tools. A lot of hammering with a heavy hammer. NOT GOOD! I like that FWD Front Wheel Drive Bearing Adapters Press Kit Puller Set, but I need to find one with great reviews. Right now, a lot of them, that look exactly like the set in this video, people are complaining that the big bolt and matching long nut strip their threads. THAT'S BAD! I also like that in this video, it's done right on the car, rather than having to remove everything and again, banging on ball joints and the like. The only thing, I wish, is that it could have been clearly demonstrated how to remove the bearing using this special set. As expected, the instructions in these sets are trash. LOL But that's fine. There's a lot of people who know how to do this. So, more video watching to come.

I used it to get the hub out. I couldn't remove the rotor cause it was rusted on the hub. So I attached a slide hammer to pop it out.

If you freeze it doesn't that expand the bearing?

No. Metal expands when heated. Water expands when frozen.

No, freezing any metal makes it CONTRACT. I worked in an automotive machine shop and we regularly froze engine cylinder sleeves, prior to inserting them, into a block that had been bored out. When the metal reaches room temperature, you've got a nice, tight fit.

simply use a slide hammer & adaptor that grips the lugs to remove hub. Then, use either a press to remove/install bearing & new hub or, use a 23 piece front wheel drive bearing removal adaptor puller pulley tool kit. can get 1 on e-bay from $48=52.91 & up. I paid 52.91 since it came with a lifetime warranty.

Yes, larger nut will take more of the torque, because it grabs more of the threads. Avoid using air torque, greater possibility of stripping the bolt threads. Ratchet will do the job, slower but less chance of ruining the tool. Especially when when using cheaper tool kit. You can also add a bearing on bolt side sandwiched between the two washers. This prevents the washers and adapters from getting chewed up. Also always grease or heavily oil the forcing bolt threads before every use.

1st, I have never seen a rotor so chewed up b4. iv seen rotors that have grooves around the rotor but, his looks like someone took a chisel & hammer to it. One generally doesn't need 2 replace their rotor when doing a wheel bearing! tip 1, use HI-TEMP BEARING GREASE 500-550+ DEGREE .... & TIP 2, WHICH SHOULD BE TIP #1, CLEAN UP WITH BRAKE CLEAN & MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN YOUR ROTORS VERY WELL & FINISH UP WITH YET AGAIN A FEW MORE SPRAYS OF BRAKE CLEAN!!! NOW, BACK TO THE VIDEO...
