    Silly question from a complete amateur: can these be connected to any desktop computer or laptop?

  • @JustRockMySoul

    @JustRockMySoul

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@barbar2090 not a pro either, but yes I assume so, since they have their own amplifier built into them. To get the optimal sound though, you should use a sound card or an audio interface. Most PCs only have a mediocre audio output, and since that is the original signal, you want it to be as good as possible. Not just amplify that mediocre sound. They are still usable like that, but the sound should be a lot better with a sound card or audio interface. Depends on what audio codec/chip your Mainboard/PC has. And of course on how nitpicky you are with the sound, as well as on your budget. But there are a lot of options around the 100 dollar mark, which is half the price of the speakers, and compared to the average pc audio solution would provide a fair boost in quality for the price.

    Had these for a little while now (not that long really in the interest of full disclosure), but am extremely happy with them. Excellent sound. Transparent and well balanced with a fairly flat frequency response. Was a toss up between Eris E5s and Mackie MR5 MkIII I even listened to JBL LSR305P for a more complete comparison even though the JBLs were slightly higher price. This is all completely subjective (I know) but I am extremely happy with these monitors. I have only recently gotten back into music production (been playing for just short of 40 years) and I'm enjoying it very much but can't justify massive expenditure at this point. The Eris won in the end being forward porting (compared to the Mackies) which suits my studio space and I preferred the sound on the Eris over the JBLs (also the slight saving). The Mackie's seemed to have a more bass heavy response. Not a criticism just my observation. Having got them installed in studio, I have to say I'm thrilled with the sound and response. Fantastic. Was thinking it might be nice to get the sub having heard the monitors in store but, in situ, I'm not so sure it's needed. There is plenty of low end extension, at least for my needs at the moment. Thank you for the review. This was fairly instrumental (though not the only reason) in swaying me towards the Eris. Keep up the good work PreSonus and RawReview.

    I'm an EDM DJ / Producer. Nice job explaining at the beginning you're an audio enthusiast. I had it down to the Presonus Eris E5 and the KRK Classic 5. I like the look of the KRK and the auto shut-off feature after 30 mins of non-use. But the smaller footprint of the Presonus and especially the better mid-range clarity won in the end. Wondering if I should cancel the 4 year extended warranty. I'd like to see Presonus design a more attractive studio sub in the 8 and 10 range, like KRK does. Bt I'm mature enough now to know that sound defeats style.

    Fantastic Review I did a lot of research on these before purchasing a few years ago. Of course there are the more popular models such as the KRKs and Yamaha and a host of others.My advice .....Don't purchase because of popularity. Audition them all first I auditioned these at the Music Store and found them to be very clear more clear then the others. I am a songwriter and need the honest assessment that these monitors provide. They are very revealing and not hyped. After mixing on the Eris 5s my songs translate quite well to all platforms. For me that's what counts. No problems with them whatsoever. Once again great review.

    A little piece of information as i'm a sound engineer : Obviously, the Acoustic space is only bass reduction, as the reflections from the wall multiplies bass by almost 2 if the wall is right behind (2 minus bass absorption by the wall), and almost 4 times while in a corner (as there are 2 walls). If the wall was a perfect reflector, it'd be -3 and -6dB. They seem really interesting for the price. I'd like to hear them to see if i can advice them as low budget monitors. With the low/mid/eq you can get them to pretty much fit any room or match any other speaker if you know how to set this (which let's assume this, isn't quite often the case when you buy that cheap monitors).

    Ichuzu02 Thanks, I might but if I did video editing tutorials I would not post them on my youtube channel. I would not do it until I grow my channel to at least 50,000.

    TheRawView If you think about making another yt channel I will definetely subscribe. You can also make "private playlists" or something like that so it doesnt show up as your usual content. Thanks for your answer

    without the subwoofer....would you suggest that the E5 series would be good for jamming along with? I play trombone(among other things) and don't want to buy 'practice' speakers and the Eris spks as well. It would be nicer if they were both loud enough and clean enough that they could serve both mixing and practicing duties. Small room, 8'x14' projecting the long way (trombone slides...)
