    Of course obama had more jobs. When he took office we had the highest unemployment rate in decades. It’s much easier to add jobs when you have a high unemployment rate. The real stat we should be looking at is GDP, and the overall unemployment rate.

    A pretty fair discussion overall, but Stephanie had the key points: "When are they gonna start to wake up?" and "living in a world of short termism." And Mr. Stephens, the "premise" of her question IS ENTIRELY CORRECT. This quote from an article by Eric Levitz in the Daily Intelligencer is why she is correct: "Turns out, giving large tax cuts to the wealthy makes the rich richer, the government poorer, and ordinary Americans more or less unaffected (unless/until the lost revenue is recouped in cuts to social spending or public investment)." That last part is VITAL TO EVERYONE WHO IS NOT WEALTHY! And most people have no clue as to what is coming at them until or unless emphasis is put on THEM instead of ever fattening corporations. That is the point that needs hammering home to the general voting public.

    I don't think that's what's be done here. They aren't displeased with the economy they're displeased with the idea that trump is taking credit for something which he did not orchestrate, therefore placing himself in a light which tricks his supporters into believing he is doing more than he is. This is detrimental not only to politics as a whole but to the values of which we at one point had for our commander in chief. Yes, politicians have always lied and been very flawed, however the difference between a president like Obama and one like Trump is that Obama put the country before himself, wherein Trump he places himself before the country

    The issue with the tax cut is that corps get to choose what to invest the extra $ on. Corps and boards will responsibly reinvest in whatever would increase the company's profits. This may mean hiring new ppl. It may mean buying better or more equipment. It may mean automating more and firing staff. It may mean, as reported months ago, buying back company stocks and giving top level execs bigger bonuses. Results will vary from company to co. Point is, there is no guarantee the extra profits are trickling down to workers. If the gov wanted workers to have more in pocket so they could spend more, thus spurring bottom up economy growth, they could have cut middle and low class taxes directly, or give Corp tax cuts on expenditures related to hiring new American workers specifically, for instance. That would have also had the effect of encouraging companies to hire Americans versus overseas workers. Wasn't that his whole middle class help platform promise? The tax cut is either intentionally baked to satisfy big biz and the wealthy or extremely ill-conceived with no chance to satisfy campaign promises to workers.

  • @LifeWithYourMum

    @LifeWithYourMum

    3 жыл бұрын

    Exactly, we need an economy that works for the low and middle class and not the wealthy top 1%. A trickle down economy does NOT work and has been proven time and time again and so whats now needed is a trickle up economy where the money is put into the buyers/ workers hands and distributed right here in America. This also results in more competition as the people get to chose what they spend their extra income on which can have positive or negative effect on companies but that's just that nature of competition. Trickle down economy doesn't promote competition, instead it promotes greed and the hording of wealth in many illegal ways in order to hold on to that money and grow it without re-distributing it back to the workers in some way.

    Seeing as how the two men's economic strategies are polar opposites and the economy improved at more or less the same rate under both of them, the lesson seems to be that presidential policy doesn't have much effect on the economy, that the economy is too big for policies to control. If it rains whether you do a rain dance or not, it means the rain dance has no effect. 😕

Statistics aren’t always right and you have to do research on everything. Don’t just put out a statistic you think is right, but rather one that is reliable. Statistics don’t always equal truth. There was a huge jobs loss when the economy tanked in 2008. So Obama took over at a point when unemployment was artificially low. The economy was going to recover on it's own, no matter who the President was once the bottom in the economy was hit. Obama and MSNBC is giving Obama credit for what was going to happen no matter what. So it's hard to show how Obama slowed growth, because there was huge growth, but again, that would have happened no matter what. The growth under Trump is better and faster than under Obama. The types and quality of jobs is better under Trump. Lots of part time jobs under Obama. Lots of full time manufacturing jobs under Trump.

  • @LifeWithYourMum

    @LifeWithYourMum

    3 жыл бұрын

    Grasping for straws where there aren't any. You buffoon, the economy recovered due to the acts that Obama took in order to get it to recover under his 8 years in office. Trump was simply handed a great economy and kept it stagnant then ruined it as he does with all the things he inherited. It's like getting handed 1 million bucks and instead of being smart with it you start giving handouts and eventually lose that initial boost you had over someone that had to start from the bottom and work their way up for that million bucks. Trump's economy is all artificially inflated for the NOW while Obama's economy was a steady gradual growth that would have kept getting better had Trump not ruined it.

  • @CarbonGlassMan

    @CarbonGlassMan

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@LifeWithYourMum you don't know what you're talking about. Clearly you've never read a single economics book. You know nothing about the economy. Obama did not grow the economy. None of his policies grew the economy. He even said in an interview that he knew a particular policy would hurt the economy, but it was a matter of fairness. Obama is the first President in history to not see at least one quarter of 3% growth or higher. The economy sucked under Obama. Obama made fun of Trump for saying he would bring jobs back the the US. What magic wand does he have, Obama said. Well, Trump policies did bring those jobs back to the US. Jobs grew like crazy. Lowest black, latino, Asian and female unemployment in 50 years. For black unemployment it was the lowest in recorded history. The economy grew under Trump because he got rid of Obama policies. He made policy that Obama criticized. You need to stop being political and try learning. The current economic downturn is because of a virus. Not because of a Trump policy. Democrats are telling you it's because of Trump because they believe you're stupid enough to take their work for it. You seem to place more importance on hate than intelligence. Calm down, take a breath and read some books. Then when you speak on these subjects you won't look like a fool that's just repeating 2nd and 3rd hand political rhetoric.

    Thanks for talking about this. When I am having a discussion with tRumpers and bring up President Obamas record of saving us from the worst recession since 1929 they ask how, argue about my facts, and when I say go investigate they get mad, and bring up Benghazi, Uranium One, and I can't debate because they say my facts aren't real. I say go investigate, look at research. Oh they are biased they say. I am exasperated just re telling my experience. So anyway thanks for discussion and information. Whew.

Nothing happens, in life, without a price, especially when you are dealing with economics. First off, the people’s little tax incentive is nothing compare to the tax cut corporations are getting. Still, that’s how it pretty much works in America.. “Give em a small immediate fast result and you got them hooked. Telling them to do things sensibly and strategically and they won’t have the patience or trust & will shoot you down.” It is what it is.
