He was one of the greatest
Every word he spoke was genuine and sincere. He contained his anger and maintained a respectable calmness while the entire world listened. Men of his caliber are near extinction. #Patriot #respect
To our youth: THIS is what a President does when a civilian airliner is shot down in cold blood. Learn as much about him as you can.
Reagan was a LEADER. Strength & grace.
In this time of world wide chaos, I wish we had a president like Reagan again.

Great President. The best so far in my lifetime. RIP President Reagan. Forever missed.
I miss the 80's
Regardless of political party, there is absolutely no politician today that has half the class Ronald Reagan had when it comes to speaking in front of the camera to the nation. This gentleman made my childhood one to remember. God bless you, Mr. Reagan, and Nancy too!
What a difference it makes having a real leader in times like these! Wish we had a man like president Reagan in office today!!

Oh, how I love President Reagan. President Reagan lives forever.
I was stationed in Korea when this happened. In one of our sister company of CSC 1/38th one of our soldiers wife and two kids was on that plane. This act touch a lot of us personally. wish them a happy life in heaven.
God bless Ronald Reagan. I can't even imagine how he would turn around in his grave seeing America today. Boy do we need him now!
Nobody is perfect, but he tried to do it right. I wish we could have a LEADER today like President Reagan.

Stop, if the Lebanon thing happened on Bush or Obama;s watch, we would bomb them into oblivion. Reagan cant hold Bush or Obama's jock when it comes to acting aggressive. Actually acting mind you, not speeches read by a professional from Hollywood.
Children should be shown Mr. Reagan's speeches in school so that they know that there once was a man who deserved to sit in that office.
Now THIS is a real President!
A true man, and a true leader.
Good day to all:We Love U.S.President Ronald Reagan from all of our hearts!President Ronald Reagan will always and forever be in my heart and i love him very much.Very sincerlly.with respect TG.

***** Aaaaaaaand isn't NORTH America is the northern part of something bigger called AMERICA? Then why would there be a south and/or north america then
We need Reagan!!
America needs another leader like this....the world needs another leader like this, for the simple reason that by his actions and words he showed that he considered himself a servant, more than a leader.
Watching this makes me feel like today, America is a country without a Father.
I was 14 when this happened and I remember how the entire world seemed to be holding its breath from about 1983 to 1987. The American attack on Libya was another potential flashpoint. Reagan did a very good job in this period although to be honest I didn't like him much then. Also I think Gorbachev sometimes doesn't get the credit he deserves for being able to meet with Reagan and dial the cold war back without either side losing face and I bet both men would be saddened by the state of the world today.
@thehistoricalgamer
10 жыл бұрын
Gorbachev was a great leader, someone willing to really take big risks and eventually lose his power to do what he thought was right for his nation, Reagan similarly Reagan was a great communicator and leader, agree or disagree with their policies their ability to look past their public rhetoric and work together is what truly made them both great. Reagan talked though but was more than willing to work with the Soviets, the tough talk gave him the latitude to decide where we would cooperate and yet he wasn't obstructionist in dialing back the cold war, Gorbachev had similar characteristics though more toned down, he looked past Reagan's rhetoric and was able to spin things in a way that both leaders could partner without losing face, they may have been men of their times but the world is very fortunate to have had both men in power at the right time and place.
Great President and great speech!.
It was this incident that prompted President Reagan to order the Department of Defense to make the GPS system available to the public. Prior to this incident only the military could use the GPS satellites.
Now, more than ever, we need a president like Reagan.
Now THAT is a President!!
God Bless Him!
Thank you, Ronald Reagan, for helping to make sure that my daughter's school does NOT have a Fallout Shelter sign by the door, like mine did. Thank you.
Regardless of politics or who you voted for, Reagan knows how to make a damn good speech. I posted this video on my facebook status in reference to flight MH17 because this speech addresses the emotions and the plight of the victims, their families and all decent people around the world far better than Barack Obama's mumbling press conference did just a few hours ago. This is despite Reagan having made this address 31 years prior to the shoot down of MH17.
The Great Gipper telling it straight up.
Ronald Reagan is our last great President. He made us great again and we need another like him today.
that is what a President sounds like .
he was a great man God bless

Now with MH17 almost certainly shot down by russian agents in eastern Ukraine, compare this address to Obama's timid and indecisive reaction to the clear aggression.
Coming to this address after the Malaysia Airliner was shot down. There's something about Reagan's quiet confidence, presence and ability to reassure that set him apart. I haven't heard any public announcement from Obama yet. All I've read about is a brief blurb he coughed out before going into some lighthearted speech....
I distinctly remember this. I still have the Newseek magazine from that week with the cover title "Murder in the Air"
The Greatest American President in my 70 year lifetime. What we have now in the White House is a total disgrace and a total failure that will haunt us for years to come. God Bless You President Reagan, you are dearly missed.

Reagan: The last adult to inhabit the Oval Office.
God I hope we can have another President like this again. How we need the likes of him today!
We need another president like this.
Reagan master President. Hail Reagan!
Such steel and clarity coupled with courage and conviction contributed to the winning of the Cold War. Our current president, pray for him, is an amatuer tring to make decisions on a world stage he simply isn't capable of.
I miss the days when we took no bull from anyone. Ronald Reagan, you're truly missed.
A lucid, and thorough case presented by a master of the art of communication.
we will never have another great president like Reagan
I miss having a president who actually knows how to lead.
I miss the days when adults were in charge
My friend's mom was on that flight, we were both 6 years old or so at the time and I remember his mom leaving for that flight and playing with him that day. Never saw him again after this happened and their house was vacant for a while.
Ronald Reagan was so much better than what we have now. Will we ever get a real leader like Reagan was ever again? Look how far we fallen.
Ike and Reagan, best of the post-war presidents.
Now we have the red line (pink line) President. Wish Reagan was still with us....
THIS is what a President sounds like. NOT the current buffoon we have as "king".
Nothing has changed: MH17
For you Millennials, this is what a leader sounds like. Not, "It appears that there was some kind of tragedy, and hey, how about that Joe Biden!"
i am korean. i was a boy when this happened and i thought reagan was a superman for this. i think obama is okay but his reaction was not awesome like reagan's
Amazing how much this speech applies to the horrors of 7/17/14.

four more years!!!! we need another Reagan
wow. Where are these leaders?!?! Unbelievable.
Reagan was a great man, may he RIP. This almost sparked a nuclear war, by the way
Mr. Reagan if he was a real leader, a leader who never bowed his head, a leader who marked an era, a leader that the world needs today. Cheers¡
Almost a better performance than in Bedtime For Bonzo, nicely done.
George Washington was the best hand down. He freed our nation and was the founder of everything Reagan followed not to mention even his enemies were in aww of him..
My man!!! The world better be lucky this man is not president today. Real Leader
Balls of steel. One of the Top 5 greatest presidents in this nation's history.
Reagan was the best. :(
You know, the strength of Reagan (at least in this video) was his ability to make it extremely difficult for people to escape responsibility. I mean this president was his own newscaster in how informative he was, I miss this.
What a lot of people have to realize is that a US plane or a Korean one flying over A Soviet No-Fly zone got shot down. I don't condone this acts but think about it, it's the middle of the Cold War and say a soviet plane flies over US territory, it's gonna get shot down no matter what you can't just look at the soviets and blame them cause every other nation would have done the same.

We have the same propaganda no apology at all the same scenario of lies and deceptions
The United States did the same thing as he soviets did in this instance. One of your naval ships shot down a civilian Iranian airliner and claimed it was a enemy fighter jet. Like Reagan said civilian airliners have very "Distinct" silhouettes
@crazytreeleaf
8 жыл бұрын
Civilian airliners have very distinct flight behaviour that radars are able to notice, like maintain a specific altitude.
"Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio?" That line came to mind as i watched this. They don't make them like they used to. God I miss this man. You realize exactly how lacking Obama is as you watch this.
If the current guy was in charge back then, he probably would've apologized for this.
you know, i believe that Mr. Reagan has a speech that would solve 99% of whats wrong with our government today
So true.. Still actual... #mh17
This is how Obama should have addressed MH17
"We seek no manifest destiny" find a 'christian' republican today who still agrees with Reagan today!
watching this in 2014.07.18 #MH17
Very Presidential. God bless him.
... Where was this type of response from obama?
I miss Reagan. He may be our last, great President.
A REAL PRESIDENT
This was when we had grown-ups in charge.
You know, the RC-145 is helpless against a fighter jet. If any aircraft over flies a sovereign nation without permission that nation is within it's rights to force that plane to land. Can you imagine the value to the USSR of capturing a US RC0135 and it's crew? Such a thing would generate propaganda, concessions from the US for the safe return of the planes crew (which could be interrogated in the mean time) and the greatest value of such a thing would be intelligence gathered from the plane itself. I can not imagine the reason for shooting down such a plane if they could capture it. Of course capturing a passenger airplane would not be very valuable. You could maybe hold the crew for violating your airspace and you'd get the plane but it would not generate much value to intelligence. I think they knew EXACTLY what the plane was.
Reagan vs Obama Wow - Huge difference. We have a totally weak and ineffective president today. Amazing difference
Amen.
US also shot down an Iranian airliner in the 80's
@TheGoblinToe
9 жыл бұрын
Though the Iranian shootdown was tragic, it was somewhat different; it was a mistaken transponder code, and a split second decision to fire surface to air missiles. KAL 007 was tracked for hours, and human fighter pilots made clear visual contact with the plane. That pilot, knowing that it was filled with innocent lives, coldly shot it down anyway.
@MaximKretsch
9 жыл бұрын
Jesse Bains You mean it is a justifying attitude NOT to have looked twice before pulling the trigger or to double-check via voice radio and then destroy the flying missile remote-controlled before impact? Or did the US Navy use only Third World missiles at that time?As far as the Soviet fighter pilot was concerned the only thing he saw at nighttime was a plane which SEEMED TO BE an airliner but could have been as well US air recon camouflaged as a third country civilian plane or flying in the radar shadow of a civilian plane. Unfortunately he knew that there were no foreign planes admitted at all in that sensitive area nor had the Korean captain reacted to the repeated Soviet demand to identify - just as you wrote "over hours". In the end the notorious East Asian "don't loose your face by admitting that you made a mistake" attitude led to this tragic outcome. And just as it was a matter of seconds for the crew on USS Vincennes to decide, it was a matter of seconds for the Soviet air defence to decide before the plane would have left the Soviet air space. (Whilst Iran Air 665 was shot down while being still in its own air space, to add that.)
