This is a ploy. This is how the West advances their negative narrative about Africa. This journalist allowed himself to be a puppet of the white man. These questions and statements were calculated to inspire sensationalism and negativity. Africans worldwide open your eyes, don't allow yourself to still be hypnotized by neocolonists whose only agenda remains the same since granting so called independence; which is to paint Africa negatively at all costs. Yes we have problems and bad leaders in some "countries"...BUT we do not need white people to fix our problems. We can do it on our own for our own. AFRICA BEYOND AID, especially since that "aid" is only to distract us while they steal all the resources to build the West and leave Africa broken. They are wolves in sheep's clothing. They never did and never will wish any good for Africa. They are angry that Ghana 🇬🇭 has began to see the depth of their trickery and started processing their own cocoa. Switzerland is mad about that as well. The French are mad because Mali 🇲🇱 and Guinea 🇬🇳 have woken up and are chasing them out and taking back control of their resources. The pawn interviewer should have at least answered ONE question just ONE !!!. All he did was spew negative statements. This interview is trash and agenda driven. It's plain as day. WAKE UP AFRICANS. OPEN YOUR EYES.

He's full of crap. In the United States, every single monetary transaction platform has at least a 2% fee even before the first $100. In Ghana the government proposed a 1.75% fee on Mobile Money transactions over 100 cedis; this is under the assumption that most, if not all people transacting 100 cedis on Mobile Money are at the upper-lower class or above. Therefore making it acceptable to deduct a mere 1.75% from the transaction. What a waste of an interview with one of the most innovative leaders in Africa. Shame.

In Ghana, the government officials ride in $100,000 SUVs, cars that are not gas efficient. They don’t pay for gas, the poor Ghanaian does. They ride around in convoy’s of over 30 SUVs .now do the math. Over $3 million dollars and depreciating. Cars that are meant for snow and desert, non of which Ghana has. and the only reason they ride in those cars is because of bad roads. Common sense should tell you to fix the roads, so you don’t have to ride in such expensive cars. Meanwhile women are having babies, and laying on hospital floors with their newborns. Because of lack of beds. School children sit on dirt floors, under trees to study. People don’t have access to clean drinking water. Government officials leave Ghana to the west to seek medical attention, buy homes in the US, UK, Dubai etc. Whiles Ghanaians a left to deal with bad medical system ,schools, housing market most of them can’t afford. Ghanaians are one of the most easiest people to deal with, doesn’t take much to make them happy. Why can’t they be respected and treated with dignity. There are no jobs, Ghanaians had Covid tax imposed on them and now e-levy. With all the resources Ghana has, a country the size of Michigan, Ghanaians shouldn’t be suffering like they do now. I think no Ghanaian government official should seek medical attention outside Ghana, shouldn’t send their children to school abroad, shouldn’t buy homes or any type of property abroad. It should all be illegal. They should declare all their assets and financial statements before they are appointed. And these records should be public.

Wow! I really enjoyed reading your comment. I was born American, but relocated to Ghana 🇬🇭 because I believe in the strengthening of black people, we must build our Motherland. Everything you described is spot on, I experience what you said everyday here in Ghana. The roads especially baffle me, and I ask myself, is not the Ghanaian government embarrassed about the potholes and rock roads? If everyone leaves Africa for abroad, then WHO WILL BUILD AFRICA?!?!?! Will it be the Chinese? The Indian? Possibly the white man? Africans must stay and build Africa to make the conditions even more suitable for them here, than overseas This interviewer put some heat underneath Addo, and rightfully so, he is the voice the Ghanaian people right now ✊🏿🇬🇭

Sometimes I think Ghanaians deserve what they are getting because they don't want to work hard but have everything free. You can't have your cake and eat it. The Western World understand logic and commonsense but most Ghanaians am hearing don't. Very sad. Such a waste of the President's effort. Let me give you one very simple example of why taxation never works in Ghana. In completing just that 19km stretch of the tema accra motorway, one could count over a 1000 vehicles that paid tolls to use the road. So imagine how much was generated in a day. We paid toll to use the motorway for decades, yet government after government, authorities refused to keep the streetlights on, refused to fix potholes which became manholes, refused to ensure highway patrol to enforce road rules, refused to provide tow service, refused to expand lanes, refused to even pay toll collectors decent wages. This scary highway has claimed uncountable lives and caused so much damage to vehicles. Same story for all the other toll roads. All that money generated for years and years disappeared into the pockets of the very people we trusted to protect the public purse. And this is a form of tax we could all SEE was being given to government, yet its benefits were not being felt by the ordinary people. We’ve been paying various forms of tax for decades, and just like the tolls, we don’t see the benefits because our officials use our sweat to cushion their lives. This e-levy is nothing but legalised robbery, and he is very well aware of what he is doing.

There is a huge fiscal deficit in Ghana and hence they might find it difficult to secure new loans, in short there is a shortfall in a government's income compared with its spending. So they need tax to increase income so they can take more loans that they might never be able to pay, thats how this whole cycle of over taxing citizens for more loans will remain in the loop. Our Politicians are just wicked and self centered infact politics in Africa is a way out of poverty for many.

I was living in Ghana for 5 months, and I have to say after visiting 40 countries its the worst that i have ever experienced. You see a porsche cayenne pulling up next to your bolt driver who is struggling to pay the gas in his car to drive you around (in a country that has abundance of oil and gas), next to the porsche 10 begging kids and 5 begging adults would come up and ask for money. The "year of return" is basically a bunch of rich americans and british coming to Ghana, raising the prices and being rude to the people that are living there and have to work for them. The seas are full of plastic there is trash everywhere the air is horribly polluted, black smoke everywhere, the city smells like a mixture of piss vomit and burned trash. I have no words to describe how messed up this country is and how much of denial those people are living in. I wish the people that are affected by this situation strength courage and good fortune, I hope one day you will get an honest and strong leadership and a change that is so much needed for the country that is rich in soil minerals and good people.

Upon all the resources Ghana has, Akufo Addo thinks the e-levy is what is going to redeem the economy from crushing? Ordinary Ghanaians have never seen Gold before. The President was spot on. We all know the country’s going through hard times like nearly everywhere else in the world at the moment. He’s trying to mitigate that by putting new structures in place i.e. the Ghanacard, SIM card registration, Free Shs etc and introducing new taxes on new industries that’s racking in loads of cash to help Ghana/Ghanaians recover. Anybody that has a problem with his explanation is just been unreasonable. It’s sad that people cannot just evaluate a situation and see when the government is in the wrong and when it’s just circumstance. Ghana and the world will survive COVID and the Russian war and everything this man is doing will make us better off for it. Also I can see some blatant NDC trolls in the comments purposefully trying to attack anyone that says anything reasonable. You people really need to stop because no one with half a brain would EVER vote for the NDC ( National Diabolical Congress )😁

The sad part is that you think I’m an NPP member just because I know what’s going on in the country but unfortunately for you I’m just a Ghanaian. We all now that some violence broke out in some polling stations during the 2020 elections but to blame that on the president is just small minded and yes he won the 2020 elections by 500,000 votes! Which was the 2nd largest margin in Ghana’s history! Only surpassed by how badly he beat Mahama in 2016 which was by over 1 million votes! Keep hoping and praying that your propaganda will sway people into hating this government but trust that real Ghanaians that think about the country really know what’s going on and all remember the levels of corruption, indiscipline, chasing of small girls, looting of state funds etc that went on under the NDC. Who would want to go back for more DUMSOR. Mahama’s time is done so just let the dead goat ride off into the sunset with all the money he stole from ghana and sent to Dubai. Smart and discerning Ghanaians do not believe in any of that sloganeering nonsense; 1d1f, 1constituency1million, etc. Everything this government has put it's hands on has failed, nothing is working. All the NPP government does is promise and never deliver because they've stolen all the borrowed money. They are corrupt to the core. If free water and electricity in 2020 was not free, then why did they lie to Ghanaians that it was. I can tell you are not educated because if you were, a simple research will tell you JJ and Kuffuor beat their respective opponents by bigger margins. The 2020 election was obviously mired in scandal because the E.C refuses to account for the results. If she has nothing to hide why is she refusing to answer questions from parliament. Why did she prevent the people of SALL from voting, why were there millions of illegally printed ballot papers? These are questions concerned Ghanaians need answers to. In regards to Airbus, a simple research will tell you that Mahama was cleared of any wrong doing by a U.K court on the litigation case, the NPP Attorney General was made to look like a joke, he was an embarrassment. Also Mahama just got back from a fund raising trip in the U.S so your fantasy of him being arrested anywhere in the world will never happen. If the NPP had anything on Mahama, they would've done it by now, he is clean but your NPP president isn't. I can name many corruption deals and scandals the NPP has been involved in; Ameri-deal, BOST deal, Agypa deal, Fuel smuggling, Money laundering, Luxury Jets, Conflict of interests, illegal seizure of private property...the list goes on. Mahama built schools, hospitals, affordable housing and fixed Dumsor, the current inept president is the only one in the 4th republic who has not added a single megawatt of power to the national grid. ELOQUENT: Expressing what you mean using clear and effective language. I don't see eloquence here (for those saying so). He is unable to put together and complete sentences. He putting up an accent doesn't make him eloquent.

I agree. Most Africans still suffer the effects of colonization. Our President wasn’t making sense at all and yes he could barely put complete sentence’s together.

Oh please, he represents Ghana, and he’s literally Ghana. You expect him to pinpoint on the nation’s weakness to a stranger? No president is ignorant of a situation. He is there to debate, not to state his weaknesses to the outsider.

Government is admitting the hardships in Ghana and around the world but is focusing on solutions to fight the hardship while the journalist is more interested in focusing on the problems.

This guy Peter from BBC is very disgraceful. The President of Ghana Nana was very professional in answering his stupid questions. Every country in the world economies “sucks” inflation, debts, high debts, negative growth , war and the poor standards of living (UK n USA especially). Ghana 🇬🇭 is doing better that the world. BBC Africa forget that the colonial propaganda will no longer work in Africa. Bless 🇯🇲🇬🇭👍🏿🤔

This is a joke. There are Ghanaians taking 200 ghc in 2022 a month. Please ask him about the 3 to 8 year old kids begging for food and money on all major roads. Poor sanitation, bad roads, lack of electricity.
