That's a good question. Normally, you pick DURING before nouns and, as you probably noticed, the word years is a noun, however… as the Cambridge Dictionary says: "We don't use during when we refer to numbers and lengths of time" and the word years is exactly that and as the Dictionary continues "In this case, we use FOR". Hope that helps 😉

In contrast, "have been to Paris" implies that they visited Paris at some point in the past but are no longer there. Both sentences are grammatically correct, but they convey slightly different meanings based on the context of the situation.
