    Yep, I understand that one. That happens when I wear my all dark ones. The flip up works pretty well like that, but it does make them a little more fragile. That said, if the visor scratches it's easily replaced.

    I use Rudy Project cycling glasses which I got the frames in a sale at my opticians. I have had them for about 5 years and were not expensive. They have the same strength lens as my normal glasses and are photochromatic and change colour quickly. I ride in the dark with them and going in and out of tunnels in bright sunlight is not a problem. They are one piece, just like normal glasses. Rudy Project are worth a look.

    Hi Steve - thanks for taking the time to share this. My wife's experience with photochromatic has been less than great, so it's very interesting to hear yours is so positive. I'll definitely look out for those when my prescription needs updating. Doing away with the different visors would be great... except, I also use these when filming. I don't like wearing sunglasses when looking at a camera because it's hard to judge exposure when your eyes are tinted. Good excuse for another pair though...

    Inspired by this I've been looking around at different options and finally settled on the Eyepod Hawk sunglasses from sportsglasses.online. I've had them a week now and used for cycling and running and they are working well. Took a couple of days to get used to the bifocals (I normally wear varifocals) but don't notice it now. These have removable earpieces and can be swapped out for an elasticated band (included) which will be good on the water. They also allow you to replace all the parts individually in case you break them and they are bit cheaper than some other options out there. I paid about £170 in total for bifocals in mine, they do the glazing themselves using an estimated pupillary distance of 64mm which they say works for almost everyone (I guess you don't have to be quite as precise for something worn only for cycling). Worked well for me, happy to answer any questions about them

    One solution for me is to wear contacts for distance, and a pair of Safety sunglasses lasses. You can get them with small bifocal lenses moulded into the lower part for reading a watch or head unit. Some of them are fairly stylish. And here's the best bit - they cost about 10 quid a pair. So there are no tears if they get scratched or lost. Why not try out a few until you find a model you like? Cheers

    (Sorry long post - but maybe a glasses solution for cyclists with Dry Eyes or other eye condition effected by wind) I need verifocal lenses and also have astigmatism so my prescription is quite strong. I’m using Rudy Project Rydon glasses. They have a clip in insert simular to yours. You can also change the external plastic curved lens. So you can have different colours or maybe reactive. I know have dry eyes and blepharitis so my eyes really don’t like the wind. Cycling glasses help a little but finding sports glasses for dry eyes with a strong prescription is almost impossible, especially in the UK. So for dry eyes and strong prescription I have found only one company that makes them. We need to look towards our American motorcycling friends who travel at speeds with open helmets, who need wind block glasses. The glasses I found are sports like with a optical insert that fits on the outside of the glasses and has a foam gasket that clips on the inside to seal the glasses to your skin on your face. They are from Wiley X - Gravity + with adapter I have not bought them yet as I’m going to see if a UK company can get hold of them, if not I’ll have to buy from the US So if anyone with dry eyes or can’t stand the wind or want a prescription glasses for winter cycling then these might be an option Link below (if allowed) hope this helps some. www.sportrx.com/wiley-x-gravity-adaptor.html# #wileyX #sportRX #cyclist #DryEyes

    I have two LS, one SS and one thermal and I bought all but one. They're lovely, well made merino wool, with a lighter weight option for hot weather (rarely needed in Scotland). I like the reflective bands and the SS are good when paired with their arm warmers that also have a big reflective band. Put a SS base layer beneath and they'll work well into Autumn and Spring. The LS merino WAS just a warm layer having no wind resistance - however, next year they'll do them with a smartwool windproof backing on the front section. That's the sample they sent me - the orange one - and it's absolutely excellent. There's a video going live next Wednesday (I think) of me using it for a gravel ride well into October. Being roadies, they make the middle back pocket narrow for pump / tube whereas I put my rain jacket in there. Also I don't use their zip pockets much, although the new season will bring a 'touring' version with a small chest pocket too. I suspect I'll be buying another...

    Does veryfocal mean bi focal ? The glasses with the line in them?

  • @alwaysanotheradventure

    @alwaysanotheradventure

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Frank - they're similar but different. Bi-focals have two distinct focus strengths, separated by that line, for whether you're looking straight ahead or down. Varifocals gradually change from straight ahead to down, the focal strength varying gradually. So in theory at least I keep focus from straight ahead, to near distance, to close up. So there's no hard line in the glass, just a gradual thickening.

    Interesting. How do you find the double lenses when they steam up or indeed get caught in a torrential downpour? I see that Sunwise do something called Shamir lenses now which looks to be a single lens solution although they’d need to be photochromic to prevent you from having to buy different sets with different tints. Thankfully, I don’t need them yet but nice to know there’s a solution for that particular problem down the line.

    Honestly, in heavy rain, I take them off! Same was true when I wore plain cycling glasses. If I rub on some Rain-X it helps the rain spots to bead and roll off (I use this on my GoPro lenses when attaching them to a kayak - pro tip!) but there's a point where it gives up. As for steaming up, that has only happened when I did a triathlon in them in hot rain and I had my cap peak pulled down tighter.
