    This is a great video. I bought the Baofeng-type interface cable and I had the same problem as you, with the radios constantly transmitting. I made your cable and now it works perfectly. I bought a BTech amplifier and I'm eager to hook that up and see what it will do. But antennas are everything, and I have 2 Ed Fong antennas about 50 ft in a tree. That increases the range of the repeater enormously. Anyway, thanks for the great video!

    You made a great video. I would like to know if you are using VOX on the transmitting radio. The process of keying the transmitter has been a point of uncertainty for me. I would also like to know if you tested your system in the UHF - 70 cm range. Other KZread videos on this subject have stated that the two radios need to be up to 30 feet apart to prevent the transmitting radio from overpowering the receive radio Apparently your system has no problem with this, at least in the VHF - 2 meter range. I will be duplicating your system soon, using Baofeng UV-5RTP radios along with ABBREE SMA-Female Dual Band 144/430Mhz Foldable CS Tactical Antennas. I am also curious if you have thought about putting some type of power bank into the ammo can to provide additional power to the transmitting radio. I assume that the transmitting radio would use up its power first. The extended Baofeng battery has a side input for charging it, although I have not actually tested this function yet. Using the handle of the ammo can to hoist the unit up into a higher position is brilliant. Once more though, my compliments on a great video.

  • @theorlandoprepper

    @theorlandoprepper

    Thanks for watching the video, and I'm glad it helped you out. Yes, you do have to have the VOX on, on the transmitting radio. I tested my system on 2m, 70cm, and GMRS channels and it work on all frequencies. As for powering the box, I am going to use Velcro to attach a small solar panel and connect it to the charging port on the extended life batteries. That should keep it charged up indefinitely should the need arise.

    Excellent video. I want to try to dismember a couple radios and make 1 total unit to cut down on weight then use a drone to get the system booted up a few hundred feet directly above my position to really reach out. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone tried to do this? You probably only need 1 power supply so that can cut down on plenty of weight. I don't know what the payload of the drone is but it would be a short flight to make contact and convey a message.

    Yes, just a simple audio cable. But like I pointed out in the video, you have to do a crossover within the cable for it to work. Plus, there are two different sizes on each end of the cable; 2.5 mm into the top hole of the receiving radio, and 3.5 mm in the bottom hole of the transmitting radio. www.ebay.com/itm/271530725067?hash=item3f387e0ecb:g:sTcAAOSwvGVa0GfU&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4CEPyulAr99e1At5OLQLiOIdgIY%2FuG02ZrsIyfAzDdY0Mvzqr9Jj6Fx4niUyZ7KCYqjTSN030OZTlb8tKi10lPwT%2FQADqf8oRfxdwQj3MddTtcvQG3duGyBnCLqlaxvb1%2BQaYnUzbKYnCw0wnmX%2BCEMacB2OLj2sq%2FHlnhy8g%2FsHy5r0GGZofsx5o3ArsczVBybBQiDZUl51U%2B4V3CMWYwSekdjD%2F1OfEvUT2PRJNNmna8gKJP271Ugh3qaeiizQw%2Ff798MQsZBTZMkTbep5qVvJWYU9TSqeRlSxWIHO39Ww%7Ctkp%3ABFBMjI_TrbBh

    does anyone ever think about the fact that if we use all this Chinese technology, that it can be hacked, and they could sell those hacks to anybody. it might be a computer, but if it's a receiver could there be a signal that if the device receives it it makes it inoperable, or something? i just wonder sometimes. idk enough about it so im sure there's ways to know if that's possible, but we already know every single computer has 2 hardware backdoors, one for the Chinese and one for the US gov...

    They're not computers. They're analog radios. They can't be "hacked". They're cheap and mass produced. I'd be more worried about domestic three letter agencies hacking and spying on us. Like they are. Especially in major cities using areal surveillance and directional finding for broadcast from radios just like these.

    I wouldn't sweat it. An emp will shut the whole thing down anyway. And if it's not an emp the Chinese and US govt will just scramble your signals. Any civilian grade radio will be useless against any military grade forces. Unless you have a satellite radio. Then you might have a chance. These are good however in the short term to possibly get teams in position. Then it should be hand signals when it's time to mix it up.

    @@BokhtiyarRahman-th5rd I've never worked with those. You can give it a shot if the programming works like a UV-5R.
