Preparing Hackberries for Storage

Harvested two different species of Hackberry (Celtis reticulata and C. occidentalis) this year and am going to dry and store them for later usage. Let berries dry in an open container out for a week to a month, depending on weather and humidity. Do not layer berries more than 5 deep. Stir berries once a day to make sure air is circulating.

I just collected hackberry seeds from here in manitoba. Found them by delta beach, the only known location in manitoba where hackberries grow naturally.

Interesting. Seems odd they would be so far away from the rest of the populations.
