Epidemics - widespread occurrences of infectious diseases - are becoming more common. Growing populations, loss of animal habitat, the anti-vaxxer movement, climate change, and other factors are fueling a resurgence of infectious diseases and increasing their danger and reach. This powerhouse panel of local and global experts will wrap their wits around the current state of infectious diseases and explore what can be done to prepare for the next epidemic. They will discuss practical and novel solutions that are emerging in the pursuit to combat infectious diseases and prevent worldwide suffering.

@@ronyan1 I'm not trying to be a conspiracy theorist. Just trying to understand how and why this is being handled so poorly. They have had years to prepare for this. The "World" health organization and yet every country affected has reacted differently. One country has a surplus of tests while another can't get any. Say what you want but I think it's BS.

The 75th Health Futures Summit was held Dec 5, 2019, only one month before China let the world know that the cluster of pneumonia cases were being caused by a strain of the Coronovirus. Michael Osterholm has been warning about this very possibility for many years. Unfortunately his call to prepare in advance rather than react was ignored by multiple administrations. His book “Deadliest Enemy” is available from Amazon.

This is the first time that this popped up in my recommendations. Its January 2, 2021 and this has only had 16,583 views and 36 comments. Yeah - so far its fairly technical, but F--K this should have been one of the great videos of the last 12 months. The part about how China makes 94% of the APIs and that they have the world hostage for those drugs is just staggering. The part on water hit me, because I am an engineer who has worked in waster water treatment.

When comparing infectious diseases, like eBola or COVID, without a living host what are the average "life" or "contagion" expectancies of a bug? We hear lots of numbers from days to weeks, but what is the expected time until an infection is not longer viable?

Predicting pandemics is no small feat. Is it because he has no charisma?. This means his future research and books will go under the radar again.
