A very clear video of how to raise a mainsail with a Lazyjack system. Thanks

Great video! I've watched your videos for two years and hope to learn RYA course in your school, but my english is pretty limited......hope to realize my wish as soon as possible

Hi Mark, I am at entrylevel and would like to share that I enjoyed the few videos you’ve made. I found them quite useful and I would kindly like to ask if you could do the same for headsail as you’ve done for mainsale. We are from Germany but watching your videos is making me thinking about coming to you and the Algarve 😉

Whats the best time to ease off the topper? raise the sail then ease the topper before trimming?

A great explanation, thank you! One quick question; would you usually have the main sheet jammer open when you start to raise the sail, or is it best to have it closed? Thanks again!

Have the main sheet eased off but jammer closed and also the kicker/vang needs to be open. If you’re not intending to reef then reefing line jammers can be open too.

After hoisting the mainsail, did you ease the topping? Is the mainsail hoisted with the mainsail halyard sufficient to support the boom and not make it fall on deck or do you need other ropes?

Maurizio Vetere - hi. The yacht is fitted with a boom vang to support the boom as well as a topping lift. Once hoisted the topping lift would be checked and eased off if taking weight. If you had a kicker arrangement (pulley system under the boom as in a dinghy) instead of a boom vang you would rely heavily on the topping lift to support the boom when the sail wasn’t hoisted. Thanks for the question.

@@Learn2Sail thank you really much, I asked because when I tried sailing my only doubt was that the boom could tilt down too much and touch the water if held up only by the mainsail but I guess this isn't the case as long as the mainsail is fully hoisted

Hard to hear you, at times, with that background music. Also, you could've gotten into the difference between having Lazy Jacks vs. standard rigging.

Very helpful. The music was a bit loud and annoying to be honest, though.
