I love this was a long episode because I love watching you work with wood, building something and just working around your property. And I love that you use old fashioned techniques.

I love your channel. It's so educational and entertaining. The old ways worked and were good. I love the music and no talking. Most youtube channels the folks just gab and gab so much repeating themselves they get annoying. This is perfect.

You could have put up a tin roof in the time it took you to cut down that first tree. But I really admire you for not taking the easy way out. This whole journey has been amazing to watch.

Honestly, this is the only channel that i keep an eye to get a new upload. There are other channels that i watch a lot and end up forgetting about, but you are the exception. Congratz on the great work.

That was terrific. I live on 25 acres in the middle of BC so this isn't some 9-5 worker daydreaming about the good life. And yet I still enjoy it. The brake was new to me and much appreciated.

I used to get upset at the large intervals between uploads because I could watch these videos all day long. Then I realized that the long intervals are perfectly in tune with the content of the channel - farming isn't quick and good things take a helluva long time. Hats off to you Pa Mac for the great videos!

Wow, I just found your channel, and have happily become quite addicted! Love it. Thank you for your efforts and humor.

I had 3 dying spruce trees taken down and kept the trunk wood for campfires in back. I'm splitting then up now and am using many of these same techniques. It's a totally different feel working outside like this than in the gym :) you get to see the productivity of your labor. No wonder Jesus was a carpenter; it is honest and satisfying hard work. Love your videos they are wonderful!

Love your simple explanations. Thanks for another video, I learned a lot from. I live in eucalyptus country (Australia) and we have a lot of tall, hardwoods that grow like weeds. I consider it bushfire management to use what I can (responsibly) around the house. Time to make me some mallets. :)

My house in Grand Saline was built in the early 1900’s. Wood frame but solid. 2x4 means that. Lol. Having to take my Non leaking roof with path and cedar shake (with 2 layers of composit on top of them) off and have it decked and shingles so we can renew o r insurance. I know it’s better but I’m just old fashioned. And as always keep up the awesome memories or Paw Mac for me and my daughter. Been following since the beginning. Thank you sir!

Just discovered your channel. Good job teaching the fundamental hard work that our forefathers had to do to survive. I hit the like button, but not without the smallest amount of trepidation. I understand that there might not be any other way, honest, but I cannot help but wish that you didn’t have to cut down a beautiful forty foot living tree, just to get a four foot Vee section. Our forefathers weren’t good at having the forethought that the forests weren’t endless. They truly did waste resources; although, undoubtedly, wastage forced on them by expediency. This is not to give you a negative commentary. I’m pragmatic enough to understand that this is what was done,and why, but it does give one pause.

I appreciate your willingness to steward well the land, Dejavu666 wampas. That's a good thing. And you bring up a good point: I do (and folks should) take into consideration their needs and what resources they can, should, or should not sacrifice to get where they need to be. For me, sacrificing one tree to get the thing I need, along with using the rest of the tree for some practical reason, was worth the sacrifice. But to cut 3 trees for 3 riving brakes when I only need 1, would be crossing a line for me. The point is, to be good stewards, we ought to know where our "lines" are and have a legitimate reason for doing what we do. To me, the main thing is maintaining the personal freedom (liberty) in our country to DO what we think is best for ourselves. Thank you for bringin' this up, Dejavu666 wampas! One additional thing: most of the main founders and first US presidents understood, talked, and even wrote about much of the land abuse that was going on early in our nation. When you get a chance, read James Madison's speech to the Agricultural Society of Albermarle about what direction he though agriculture should take.

So when I move out to Missouri I can stop by and learn a few things from you. Since we will be neighbors and all.

Pa Mac, I wonder if your ancestors would have used American Chestnut for making shakes? Of course, the Chestnut blight devastated the American Chestnut trees across the US. Many old American Chestnuts remain as stumps because the blight does not affect the root system. From these stumps, stump sprouts grow and form succession stage shrubs. Unfortunately the blight kills these sprouts before they become a tree. In Tennessee, the pioneers treasured the American Chestnut for its straight grain, strength, and rot resistance. Thank you for your videos.
